One of my favourite things about this song isn’t what it tells us about Leo, but the fact it’s attached to Leo in the first place. Leo is quite possibly the most egotistical character in Guilty Gear, even beating Johnny, whose entire theme in this game is about him and how great he claims to be. It’s basically Leo’s defining trait. Even his bio in GG World says that he has a higher sense of pride than the average man. To Leo, the entire world revolves around him. Hellfire reveals a lot about Leo, particularly his survivor’s guilt and PTSD, and what makes that so effective is the fact this is coming from Leo of all characters. His own theme is not a boastful ballad all about him, it’s a song about his real feelings, coming from a man with an ego so large it may as well wrap back around to where it started. The irony of an egotist’s theme song being so upfront about how he really feels, basically being a personal diss track against himself, is genius and probably one of my favourite writing choices in the franchise.

Honestly, considering her status as a secret character in Missing Link, Baiken having the longest theme in the game feels deserved.

This song is so incredibly written for something that just plays in the background of a fighting game. I love how this song is basically her justifying her insanity and in the process “making” us just as insane as she is. The song literally throws the dictionary out the window and says that what it said is irrelevant because all that matters is that you think you’re making a difference in the world, and whatever that difference is, is just a note in a symphony, and variation in what those differences are is what makes life beautiful.

[And if you wish to go further down the rabbit hole: Ken is Celtic for Born of Fire. She uses a firearm. Which, along with Red and Fire, is a symbol of Power] She is the Mirror of the World, hence the Double. Mirrors are often associated with the Moon. (The Mirror of Heaven) She can be blinded by vengeance, blinded by justice, or see the balance. Which was her character arc. And there’s more. The creators of this game are brilliant.
