What rod do you feel is the most versatile for this welder operating on 120volt?
@heliarc5186Ай бұрын
I teach welding and so far this is the best budget welder for price ive used. Most cant run 6010 or 11 on 120v. The 225 i bought welded it flawlessly 1/8 6011 maxed on 120v ran like a big welder. Unbelievable that it can do this while drawing 15a sustained on 120v. Efficency must be far above 90% Edit* Did the math. Mathmatically if their numbers displayed are correct, than this welder would be 97% efficent. Which is abnormally high. But i may confirm later with meters.. may be closer to 95% still amazing

Your welds are incredible! I just picked up this little rig to learn with. My physics and chemistry backgrounds really kicked into drive as I was laying down the best weld in history on my first day (that is a joke, please laugh) and I thought to myself: wow, if only TIG/MIG wasn't out of sight in terms of price. Conceptually, I was running through how the whole process works and just thinking... I wonder if this little gizmo can do TIG/MIG with some very minor "modifications" and I bet it that it could, and it sure does! Very impressive! This is invaluable information for somebody just getting into the craft, I can't thank you enough! Your channel is an amazing find!

For flux cored stainless that stuff runs really well. I figured it was going to be very tough and almost impossible to make decent welds. Blue Demon did a nice job.

you think this sort of tig welding will be suitable with the smaller AC/DC buzzboxes? The strongest in amps available on the market is Forney rated at 235/185 and to be honest that 185 amp DC output is questionable, I think the Italians are bullshitting us
@weldzcool11474 ай бұрын
Well if it’s a buzz box it’s only AC welding so it won’t work. Buzzbox is a transformer only machine. But if you can snag a transformer-rectifier machine you are good. Even if the amps are lower than you think. 150 amps can weld some pretty decent size metal. Great question and thanks for watching.
@bazemk51119794 ай бұрын
@@weldzcool1147 My bad, I call all the box type stick welders transformers a buzzbox ( well they buzz a lot when they are on) I was talking about for example the Lincoln AC/DC 225/135, or the Forney AC/DC 235/185, or Miller and Hobart AC/DC 235/165 or 300/200 ( they dont make these anymore though) These are all transformer stick welders just smaller than yours AKA tombstone type and they have AC/DC capabilities. One more question, what's the lowest amperage you can scratch start an ark with this sort of tig welding?
@johnmacmillan6274 ай бұрын
Thank you for clearing up a few things for me. I never realized that the arc length was controlled by voltage when in short circuit mode. As I understood it worked for spray transfer as by increasing the voltage the arc length increased because more of the wire was burned off by the higher voltage . Also burn back was a big problem with increased voltage.

Does this welder have the strike to start option without using the pedal?
@elijahperry7813 ай бұрын
from what I can tell the two options for this machine are the high frequency start using the foot pedal and the lift arc option which wouldn't require the pedal.

Does anyone know what generator i need to run this on the 240v settings? I used the 120v at max amperage and it was hardly able to weld a thing hinge on a metals door from an apartment complex front gate. It felt like i needed 80-90amps at least but i managed to "get it done"
@cognac8297 Жыл бұрын
120v carries 3680watts. X2 7200. At 20 amps ... 220v carries 7220 watts on 30 amp breaker and that's max. Need a 40 amp breaker to carry 10400watts. You need the 30 amp breaker on the hf harbor freight Preditor 220v. 7250watts. You need a 10,500 watts or more for a 40-50 amp breaker plug in on a generator or house.. on the 30 amp. 220 don't turn up the welder passed like 190 amps out. . And according to this build . You can only weld according these options. On the Preditor.😢
