* thank you so much for all of this wonderful info! I own a Gestalt X10, and you have helped immensely with the info provided! I've lost contol of the steering a couple of times, crashing against a fence 2nd time. :( I now understand why things happened the way they did! I'll ride this bike with a lot more respect now, always keeping a good hold on the bars! I love it otherwise! :) thanks again!

My son has outgrown his medium alpine trail 7 and was wanting a frame swap to a large or extra large. Would he be able to frame swap to this new bike ?or is it better to just swap to the alpine trail 2 carbon. He needs a longer dropper post so thicker post ok Ps love the colours and adjustability of new AT! I’m a total bike nerd 🤓 😂

I have had this bike for 3 or 4 months now and I love it! Nice and fast on road and can handle some decent off road. Have taken it for a blast at Dalby forest and it handles nicely on the rougher stuff too. Good for someone that can't justify more than one bike and likes an allrounder.

😂. I'm actually very surprised to hear that some feel that way about your voice. I like the fact that it sounds sincere, without any bias and none of that annoying 'tour-guide' tone. 😩😖😬 Not to mention that I fully appreciate the thoroughness of your reviews, because the 2 to 3 minute ones, that are made to accommodate short attention spans, share very little information. Great channel, and keep the reviews coming.

Being 6'1", I was nervous about buying an XL but all my concerns were allayed. Absolutely love my AT7. One of the goofy things Marin does is spec these bikes with really slow tires. Mine came with Vee Tire Flow Snap 2.6s and they were horribly slow and heavy. Went with a Specialized Eliminator T9 up front and a Dissector in the rear and it flies now. This bike always puts a smile on my face.

Maybe a funny question but I never had 1x12 bike, on 3x7 bikes on left side you change 3 speeds and on right one you change other 7. On 1x12 on right one I guess thoes 12 but what do you change on left side since it has only 1 speed?
@BikeBrosBikeShop
@BikeBrosBikeShop 2 күн бұрын
No shifter on the left, which makes things nice and simple or allows for a dropper seatpost remote on the left without adding confusion

Great video, thanks! I'm thinking of getting this bike primarily for commuting -- with a big road tour next summer (trans america trail) -- and some gravel and maybe light adventure on occasion. Is this a reasonable use case? Would you swap out the chainring for a 34t or 36t for a trans-continental tour where I'm not interested in setting any land speed records, but rather being comfortable and enjoying my time?

I have seen some 2023 models on sale since the 2024 just came out. Is there that big of a difference than the 5mm travel? Would a 2023 x1 for the same price as a 2024 x2 be a better buy?
@BikeBrosBikeShop
@BikeBrosBikeShop 11 күн бұрын
I think the 2023 is still an excellent bike and worth considering at the sale price. The 5mm travel won't be noticed. All you really miss out on is the downtube storage and headset adjustment but other than that (and a third position for the rear flip-chip), the 2023 geometry was great and so were the parts.

@BikeBrosBikeShop
@BikeBrosBikeShop 14 күн бұрын
I imagine this is to meet a specific price. I'm only 185 lbs, relatively quick but not smashing corners or huge stuff so 36 vs 38 doesn't bother me. I imagine a rider who rides hard enough to appreciate the difference is probably stepping up to a fancier build to get a piggy-back/coil shock, fancy bits anyways.

If The Extra Money Was There Would You Pick Stance 1 Over Stance 2? The Upgrades Worth It? Or Just Get Stance 2 & Do Some Upgrades? This Would Be My First Bike
@BikeBrosBikeShop
@BikeBrosBikeShop 14 күн бұрын
I have a personal bias (and actually all the shop staff do) against Sram SX rear derailleurs so we don't even bring in the Stance 29 1. We've seen far too much inconsistency in quality and performance from one bike with SX to the next... a couple bikes work well and others have caused a lot of frustration for customers and our mechanics trying to get the shifting to work nicely and remain in adjustment. The most interesting feature on the Stance 1, in my opinion, is the fork which is modestly upgraded from the Stance 2 - with that exception I would probably choose the Stance 2 over the the Stance 1 even if the price was equal.

The Trance X1 alloy version looks amazing. The only down side is the expected 2(ish) pound weight increase on the aluminum version (vs carbon) you get in USA. I'm not overly concerned about weight so it wouldn't bother me / for some it is a psychological barrier. Beyond the weight, the alloy frames look excellent, Giant does a great job on their alloy frames and the spec is really solid.

they exaggerated with the price this steel is not even Reynolds 953
@BikeBrosBikeShop
@BikeBrosBikeShop 19 күн бұрын
Hmm, can you provide an example? I compared to Surly as a common option and this Marin stretches the dollar quite a bit further with equivalent tubing. I imagine the steel on this Marin to be similar to Reynolds 631. 9xx Reynolds is fancy Stainless steel, much more expensive.

What would you recommend on this bike as far as tires 27.5 or 29’ers?
@BikeBrosBikeShop
@BikeBrosBikeShop 19 күн бұрын
I think rider height and preference for feel is how that decision would be made. The 27.5 uses 2.6" tires which can be great for traction and confidence while the slightly larger 29s will be a touch more efficient... a fairly even trade off

What are your thoughts on the Roscoe 8 compared to this? They are also on sale on line but with a 250 upwards difference. I want to get into mountain biking but stuck between deciding between the this Fathom 29 2 or the Roscoe 8.

I’m trying to choose between these two as well. Getting back into trail riding after years off but want a simpler bike to ride like a hardtail. Worried about the negative words about the Creat fork on the Giant. I have a Trek store 20mins away.

I was in the same boat as well, on Wednesday I ended up going to Trek and 99bikes here in Aus and tested both. Although I thought initially that the Fathom was a better option, the Roscoe 8 was something else. Go test them and see for yourself, I got the 2023 Roscoe 8 in the Matte black olive. Trek had a sale on for $2k aud and got my local bike shop to price match. Always support local Trek and the bike shop both profit.

My local shop is selling a grade 1 for half price. Its a bit out of my price range but it might be worth it for the insane savings. As some that's 5'6, how do you think the M size model would fit for someone that mostly rides around time/parks and occasional gravel trails? I like the idea of this over a street bike due to the beefier tires, allowing me to fly through dirt/grass parks.
