After cleaning the mouthpiece of a Roland Aerophone Pro, it is generally recommended to recalibrate the instrument. This is because cleaning the mouthpiece can slightly alter its position or the pressure sensors' sensitivity, which can affect the instrument's response.

@unclemick-synthsАй бұрын
Hi there, thanks for stopping by and leaving a comment. Unfortunately the only thing I know about the oboe is that it's a double-reed instrument. The AE has alternative fingerings that you could customize. Which would be closest to the oboe; recorder, flute, or clarinet? If you're not already a member, I thoroughly recommend joining the iSax group on Facebook because there are some very knowledgeable people there (including classical musicians) who might be able to give you better guidance because I've always stayed with sax fingering.

Wow yeah that's what I'm working on now: trying to use the 4 different "partials" or layers and crossfading between them to emulate guitar techniques like palm muting and pinch harmonics. Hopefully the end result is that I can play a regular note on my AE-30 and hit the palm keys to quickly crossfade to sounds that will emulate these guitar techniques. @@unclemick-synths

Thanks! Your explanation of the effects is really helpful. I have not ever thought of using them in this way. This will really help me as I am designing a number of sounds on my AE-30 too. There are a lot of things that get forgotten. I found Lewisohn's book on the Beatles sessions eye-opening because to them a four track recorder was four times as good as a mono tape deck so they applied "direct to mono" recording techniques to each tape track. However, me being influenced by over-dubbers like Mike-Oldfield and Jean-Michel Jarre, I viewed my four track recorder as a mere quarter of a 16 track recorder. A very different perspective!

Thank you very much . Your instruction is very very clear, and easy to understand. But I still have some questions. (1) Is there any method to control fade-in vibrato time ? I don't like to play the instrument every note from the very beginning to the end with vibrato. If there is a mehod to control fade-in vibrato time (for example, 100 ms... or so), I guess the sound would be more natural. (2) What is "cut-off" ? and what is MFX effect ? This is my kowledge problem, not your fault. Your tutorial is perfect ! Thank you.
@unclemick-synths6 ай бұрын
Hi George, thanks for watching and leaving a comment. 1. Yes, you can set the Vibrato Delay in the Scene/Offset pages of the app (refer to the Parameter Guide). Unfortunately you will have to set this for each Part in each Scene that uses the automated vibrato. I will be covering those menus in my next video. 2. Cut-off frequency is a feature of a low-pass filter. It controls the brightness of the sound. In the video I was controlling it with Elevation and Breath. 3. The MFX effects are a set of effects that you can use on individual Tones in a scene. If you haven't watched them already, I recommend that you watch my first two videos in this series: Make A Scene and Fake Recorder.

Hi Mick. I use my AE30 with an Android tablet, and am unable to rename a modified scene when using the Editor app. I wonder if you have ever seen this problem or have any thoughts on how it might be fixed? (I've tried rebooting the AE30, repairing both AE30 and tablet.) I have no problems saving and renaming directly from the LED screen on the Aerophone, just through the Editor app. Thanks in advance for any help you may offer. Love your channel.
@unclemick-synths7 ай бұрын
Hi there, you should be able to rename when you save (I demonstrate a save in the first tutorial). One thought... you are saving to a user slot, right?
@Belas_Photography7 ай бұрын
@@unclemick-synths I solved this problem, but you'll never guess what the problem was. When I went to rename the scene, the "OK" box grayed out, which on every other application I've used indicates it isn't functional. However, that is not the case with the Editor. With the "OK" grayed out, I made changes to the name, clicked the "OK" which was still grayed out. The "OK" then went back to normal white. I clicked the "OK" button a second time and it stored the renamed file. Not the behavior I expected, but I can work with it. Thanks for your help.

@@unclemick-synths Yes, it's better than nothing. By the way, have you ever modified the partial (wave) files that make up an instrument? It appears they are editable, but I don't recall ever hearing of anyone doing so. This is just an idle curiosity at the moment, but might be something I'll pursue in the future.
@unclemick-synths7 ай бұрын
I will be getting down to editing the partials and choosing the waveforms but I don't think there's a way to edit the actual waveforms themselves. I know it's now possible to import sample files from some Roland keyboards but I'm not sure if that's restricted to the AE-30. Once I've finished digging through the AE's other features I'm going to look into the possibility of converting samples from other sources because I have no interest in Roland's keyboards - the AE-30 gives me all the ZEN-Core I need and consequently other synths are higher on my wishlist.

Hi Tim. Thanks for stopping by. Yes, I find the photos lose context so easily. I never figured out a way to overcome that. I do still have the synth - it's a Clef B30 Microsynth. The keyboard was very unreliable so I started building a CV input (it's not 1V/octave) but stopped when I got the Neutron. I did start a video on the MidiVolts but got such a good response to the videos on programming the AE-30 that I'm focusing on that for the next few videos. Thanks for reminding me I already started the MidiVolts video, I'll try to make it the next one after I finish this series.

Hey just posting here regarding SP. I know you can't stand him and you did encourage his positive posting, it's nothing but a mask, he does this with Tim as Tim has shut him down a few times now. Tim is his last big channel that John posts on due to all the abuse he has given out to other channels. If you never saw the last SS stream, have a look and see how he behaved, John then turns on Nick because Nick never thanked John for the donations. Nick did, but by accident, but John wanted to control the show with anti Behringer discussions. Everything John does is negative, unless it's about himself. The comment I left was outing his fake subs, he was getting 100 per day, has grown his channel from 300 to 2.9K in less than a month, but he blames other people for doing this. This is his 23rd account, has had multiple DMCAs filed against him, his most recent one was with Espen Kraft. Even one of John's subs attacks Espen without knowing who he is, but Espen's friend pulls this sub up and an interesting exchange is made. John just likes stirring the pot, he has no positive bone in him.

Thanks for this Mick. Great to see you pushing back the boundaries on what the Aerophone can do and its inspiring me to take a look at the back of my Modal Cobalt8 synth and see what connections can be made. More vids like this please. Can the AE30 trigger arpeggios and sequences on the Neutron ?
@unclemick-synths11 ай бұрын
Thanks for watching and commenting David. I haven't tried it yet but in theory I could use my Korg SQ-1 to sequence the Neutron using CV and then transpose that by inputting MIDI to the Neutron from the AE-30. Thus far I haven't found a way to have the AE-30 transmit more than just the notes I'm playing but now I'm digging deeper into the Aerophone's capabilities it would be very cool if it could do that.
@unclemick-synths11 ай бұрын
...and I hope you have success with your Cobalt8. It's a lot of fun trying to see what works and getting different sounds that the Aerophone sound engines don't give you. I wish I had more time!
@davidbartholomew685611 ай бұрын
@@unclemick-synths The Cobalt is a great synth but it doesnt look like I can play it from the AE20 😢. There is an option to send the AE20 signal through the Cobalt's AUX and use the synths on board effects section which is fun and means that delays can be time locked with sequences. The AE20's delays etc are really good but I prefer to use hands on effect treatments instead of adjusting stuff in the app so I run the Aerophone through a TC Helicon triple echo box and a Strymon Big Sky. Lotsa fun to play with all this stuff. Its so relaxing and calms the soul during turbulent times. Keep on posting and inspiring Mick.
@unclemick-synths11 ай бұрын
Yep, definitely relaxing. One of the challenges I face trying to make videos is I find something interesting and end up spending the rest of the evening playing instead of working on the video! 😀 It would be nice if someone discovered a USB-MIDI to MIDI adapter that is guaranteed to work with the AE-20. Not having the 20 myself means I am reluctant to recommend one in case I'm wrong. Have you tried going via a computer or tablet? I guess the other factor is how wind synth friendly the Cobalt is - I don't have a Cobalt myself. A lot of synths won't let you avoid the envelope generator. I plan to make some more videos about controlling external hardware but those will have to wait until I finish the series about the AE's internal sound capabilities.

Hi Manny, thanks for watching. Is it just one Scene with this problem or all of them? If it's all of them, I would take a look at page 4 of the Parameter Guide. I suspect the Bend Range Bite Dn setting is too big. You adjust that on the instrument. If not that, it could be the Bite Calibration. Alistair Parnell has an excellent video on calibrating the bite on his iSax channel. If it's just one scene affected, see page 25 of the Parameter Guide for info on setting the Bend Range Bite Dn parameter. You adjust that in the app. I plan to look into that in a future video.
