As a teacher for 23 years in the middle school classroom, I have seen many 1st year teachers leave or change careers after their first rookie year because they can’t handle their classroom responsibilities and management. I tell them to stay the course and learn from their mistakes and it will improve with time. It seems to be a never ending cycle.

Some of these tips are good. But there is one tip that I want to comment on that I think would be actually harmful to implement. I’m against the seating chart. In school, I did have a diagnosed disability. But I met a couple of students who had the same disability, just weren’t diagnosed with it. I had a visual impairment, so it was imperative that I sat in the front. I’m really happy for those teachers who respected that, as it was not always the case. But some thing that makes me just against the seating chart in general, is the students weren’t diagnosed. Often times, I see them try to advocate for themselves saying that they have a visual impairment, they would be brushed off because they didn’t have the paperwork that I did. Sometimes, even though I did have the paperwork saying that I had a visual impairment, it would be thrown out anyways because that seating charts more important. The seating chart is way too reliant on chance to accommodate those students who may have an undiagnosed disability. Mind you, having no seating chart isn’t the best either as if you also have a physical disability that makes it so that you can’t come as quick as the other students, you essentially lose your seat. but at least it allows the students the chance to sit in the seats that best suits their needs.

I guess my issue is kids who just refuse to follow directions. I was a sub when I first tried high school, so that might have made my situation harder. But I had a student who just refused to go into the hall. The response was "you can't make me".

I love this exercise, but I do wonder, how would you handle kids who have to repeat the year? In the Netherlands (where I teach in secondary education), if your grades aren't good enough, you have to repeat the year. Besides that, the new classes in the next year are also mixed: some students already know you, others don't, so for some students it will be a repeat exercise, while for others it won't be. How would you handle this?

Do you do the 30.30.30 also? I hate to eat in the morning but he preaches to eat 30 grams of protein within the first 30 min of waking up but it makes me sick to my stomach. I want to slow carb but dont think i can do the 30.30.30.
@gibsonedu19 күн бұрын
I still loosely follow the slow carb diet but also do intermittent fasting so I don't follow 30.30.30 anymore. Hasn't been detrimental.

does this camera naturally have that kind of film/polaroid vibe to it or do you need to buy a certain lens to achieve that certain aesthetic? so basically, a vibe like this, kzfaq.info/get/bejne/aMWEe6yQtq_do30.html is that natural or did he get a certain lens for that quality?

I'm crying right now I'm a beginner I had four class today +1 as a substitute, the students were too difficult to handle, students do not listen to me, they talk in between the class even if I shout with the top of my voice, washroom facility is far from where we sit, I cannot handle all this... I'm breaking , I feel depressed , in all this I've been given few extra responsibilities too it is difficult to handle them , I cannot..I really cannot

I cried in high school because a of a teacher. He had told us to answer like 5 questions in a powerpoint slide and discuss with our seatmates. Then teacher was trying to catch everyone's attention and instead of going "Hey, we are moving on" or an attention catch, he picked on me for talking to my seatmate about the questions which he told us to discuss. He made me change seats in front of the whole class and sent me outside when I accidentally banged my knee on the desk and said "ow." I was really distressed because I didn't want to miss any of the instruction. I still have no idea what I did wrong as an Adult

These are GREAT! I taught first grade for 5 years, and never struggled with classroom management. I became a stay at home mom for the last 5 years after having my kids. I am now subbing and when I sub upper grade / junior high I notice my classroom management with the littles doesn’t translate with older kids (obviously). I love these tips, I am going to try using NOISE today. Thank you so much!

I’m considering becoming a full-time teacher as a second career. I started substitute teaching recently, and I’ve been surprised to find how much I love middle school students, but since I haven’t really had any training yet, it can be overwhelming trying to figure out what to do when a class won’t listen. I’ll definitely try out these tips. Thank you!!

Did a quick scan of the comments and didn't see a similar question so here goes, what do you do with the rest of the class if you need to talk to a student in the hall? do you send the student out and visit them when there is a spot in the lesson plan where they're all doing work?

You cant get frustrated, stay calm. don't call the student out and create a 'power struggle' I love the scripted phrase "Once we have 100% participation we WILL move on."

Is it true that in your society middle school students learn using the PC and the internet? In the corner of the world where I am, all electronic devices are seen as demons for kids. And whenever the kids have PC or phones, they use it for games and game videos and totally lose control over themselves. As a result, our education remains in the "stone age", while children in other places are using modern technology to learn. One example is the dictionary. While the dictionary website is so powerful and convenient, our students are limited to the paper ones, because once they get online, they do everything but study.

can your videos and tips be used for high school teachers?
@John_C.2 ай бұрын
I see that you teach students how to learn. But in my society, education is all about teaching content because the ability to learn can hardly be tested in a single paper exam. And the competition in exams is so harsh that students can afford no other business.

Never here in the Philippines. We revere our teachers so much that it gives us ick and are very uncomfortable calling them by their first name. I mean we do not call our elders by their first name, we call them ate, kuya, uncle, auntie, lolo, lola. So it won’t make sense to our culture.
