This is a positive dialog with a horrible admission. White ppl get a bad wrap about creating gated communities that are seemingly for exclusiveness. Yet, 😪 many ppl can willingly attest they prefer to live around White people with lower concern of home invasion 😢 ("living with doors🚪 unlocked"). This says much about people of color.

I don’t see that talking about race accomplishes anything. All I witness is arguments, division, blacks stating they hate whites. I am tired of the drama. If an employer or college or organization wants to reject someone for any reason, they will using words that sound like no bias is involved.

Talking about race is to bring us to a place of understanding. To pretend like it doesn't exist isn't helpful. When we don't allow healthy conversation about race we fall into negative and harmful stereotypes like believing that blacks who talk about race hate whites.

Hi Roman. I haven't been to India but am researching on travelling there. Accdg to some locals, you can also now book a rickshaw/ tuktuk via Ola or Uber. So if you want a safer ride (and no haggling for price), then consider an Ola rickshaw. Hope you're enjoying your travels. Cheers!

I don't like the idea of co-ed nude saunas. 😧 I do love saunas, though! There's a large Korean population where I live, and in my neighborhood is a very nice Korean spa that I go to frequently. They don't allow any clothing at all, but they do provide robes and towels which can be used in the sauna., if you like. They keep the women's and men's areas completely separate, though. There's no way I would go if it was co-ed! The first time I went there, I was kind of shocked to see everyone walking around naked (most people don't bother with the towel or robe). But I got used to it, and now it's one of my favorite places to go to relax and unwind.

I love your stories, Roman! You make me laugh with the way you describe situations! 😁 When I was in India, we went to a bird sanctuary. They had bicycle rickshaws to ride us around, and I also felt so bad for the guy! It was a super hot day (over 100 F), and the poor guy was wearing jeans and a long sleeved shirt, peddling along with me and another girl in the back. He was also telling us all about the birds and other animals we were looking at, even while peddling and sweating. I felt so bad, I coudn't even relax and concentrate on enjoying the scenery! After the ride, I wanted to make up for it, so I gave him a huge tip. He looked super shocked, but he was so thankful.

About the staring part, it's difficult to compare as I'm not a person of color, but my experience is that German people tend to stare by default. I'm living in a village next to the German border on the west, and whenever I hang out on a square next to the road coming from Germany I can see people staring intensely from their car - some of them even miss the curve and have to go back because of that. Pretty funny because I'm nothing special really: wearing blue jeans and a black t-shirt mostly, and have a very average face with average weight, so I can only image how much they stare if someone is out of the norm. Like this guy who seems to be wearing flashy shirts.
@romanlillie

ok that's interesting to hear - there can be many reasons for stares, and it's not only race.

If you are not a person of color, does that mean that you have no color and therefore, cannot be seen by anyone? People of color includes everyone since all people have a color, including the color of white.. Isn't white pants, shirts, suits, cars, sheets, Tee-Shirts, socks a white color? So why is it that white people are not the color of white, pink, pinkish/red ha ha.. I refuse to jump on a POPULARITY term and allow other people to direct how I view life.. A Black person does not have to be jet black in color, but can be any color, and a white person can also be white and pink...

@@etruscancivilization Here in Europe it is the generally accepted term to address someone who differs from the homogeneous white majority of the population. Pretty sure it differs from one part of the world to another, for example in Japan I was the white guy, but saying that a person is black in Europe is not really acceptable.

I was a black American who lived in France. Europe is very xenophobic and by extension racist. I was shocked. Most people thought I was “African” but as soon as they realized I was American I would get “American” privilege. It’s a shit show.

from what I've seen it seems like the germans who ARE racist feel very comfortable doing so because nobody stops them, which has created an environment where you get more strangers making a spectacle of their racism. within the first 2 hours of arriving in berlin I witnessed an old woman loudly berating this poor hijabi woman for what felt like 10 MINUTES. it was really shocking that nobody interrupted her, if I knew german I would absolutely be telling her off! I totally resonate with Kisaruni's sentiment of using our privilege to try and pull up all boats, or at least shame these bigots into watching their mouths. if anything else, it feels good watching them squirm after a lifetime of never encountering natural consequences for their speech. I would've loved to hear a little more about where in Germany he grew up and the differences in places he's lived, especially how they've changed because for how difficult german society can be, it certainly HAS changed (or at least berlin did) from the time I first visited as a kid in the early 2000s to the next time I visited in 2016.

Great advice as always, I always enjoy your content! I like that you frame this as being prepared instead of how to avoid, and not being paranoid like you said. Travel just isn't going to be fun if you can't prepare for adversity! I personally did get Delhi Belly when I went to India, indeed it might have been something a bit more as it lasted about 3 weeks till I got some antibiotics when I went to Thailand. I think I even know where I got it as I did not listen to that voice you mentioned in my head about this one vendor feeling a bit off lol. But I personally don't call diarrhea being truly sick or food poisoning like it seems like a lot of other people do. I'm always more scared of the lying on the bathroom floor vomiting and hallucinating type of sick and I think people don't realize that that type of sick while it can happen is a lot rarer, and even if it does it's something we can usually get through and learn from lol. I should have been better prepared like you mentioned and it was a good lesson for the next time I go, and I still had some of the most amazing food of my life in India. I discovered this little hole in the wall restaurant behind my hotel in Delhi that served the most amazing Punjabi food I've ever tasted in my life!

@Roman Around The World Greetings! I hope all is well with you and your family and this message finds you in the highest of spirit, good health and Joy. I've frequent your channel periodically over the years and do enjoy your content. I especially like how you interact with your audience. You have done an amazing job at simplify traveling and informing people about the nuances of travel. You are very straightforward in your delivery and it makes it very palpable to sit and watch. As much as I enjoy your channel it worried me a lot in this episode when you and the gentleman kept referring to BLACK PEOPLE as "people of color". You are both Black Americans discussing what it means to emigrate to another country and it appears that you are directing your information towards a black audience so WHY the continuous "people of color" reference? Black People are not people of color we are actually descendants of Africans and we call our self black. So please stop referring to us as "people of color" just say black people. The discussions was about black people in Germany, Africans, Black Americans, etc. it was not a people of color discussion. I mean you were specifically discussing Black American culture versus African Culture and how consumable it is in German. You talk about adaptability for black people to migrate to other countries yet you kept repeating "people of color" enough with the politically correct verbiage. As black people our experiences in the world is often quite different from other groups of people. Let's be honest about it and stop trying to pacify everyone. Everything is not for everyone that does not make you bias, that's just life. It's imperative to our health, wealth, and thriving abilities that as black people in this world we share our experiences with each other. We have to be honest about what it means to be a Black person in certain environments and spaces. As a Black Woman it is my belief that we have a moral, ethical, spiritual, and physical responsibility to be "my brother's/my sister's keeper. We cannot talk for other people nor is it our jobs to do so. Thanks for the this information. Peacefully, Tracee'

Interesting comment! I tend to use the term Black and People of Color interchangeably at times though I recognize that they're different. Sometimes I use the term "people of color" because I want to refer to groups that extend beyond my own. I am Black (clearly) but sometimes the things that effect us as Blacks also effect other groups, like Latinas/os or native Americans etc. So I hope that adds some context. And I appreciate the comment and I love thoughtful dialogues even if we have different perspectives. After all that's essential and what makes things interesting!
