Why did you place a tee in the line with a plug?
@jonathanDIYs9 күн бұрын
It was a gas service port to begin with. By putting a tee, it can continue being a gas service port and whoever needs to hook something on it doesn't have to remove my stuff. Also, the quick adapter is heavy, I prefer the connection hanging downward and not horizontal. It probably doesn't make a difference, I don't think anyone would trip on it, but it did look neater to me at the time. Thanks for commenting!

I am currently running NG on a motor snorkel conversion kit on my WEN 3800watt inverter. Have a 30ah outlet with 30ah breaker. Since I have NG I am able to run all the lights, refrigerator, router, TVs, and 8000btu portable a/c and also furnace in the winter. But now I want to upgrade my genny to run the 5ton a/c. I will be buying and installing the micro air easy soft start. Then will upgrade the genny to more watts. My question is, Are you using a 30ah outlet next to the breaker box with 30ah cords running your A/C and other items in the house off that genny and NG? Thanks for the video great info.
@jonathanDIYsАй бұрын
Hi, thanks for commenting! Yes, I am running my 4ton AC off of my inverter generator which is plugged into the main load center through a 30 Amp generator inlet port and a manual interlock transfer switch. There is a chance you might have to upgrade to a 50 amp for a 5 ton AC. It's hard to tell until you try it out because it is surge power and not sustained so the quick surge to startup might be able to go over the 30a equipment without tripping the breaker. Hope you have a successful install and setup!

@@copelandrobinson that is the sense app. It clamps on to the main power incoming and uses machine learning algorithms to guess the power usage of different devices based off of their profile. For example, it might see a power spike of 475 watts when a fridge comes on, it remembers that and when it sees that spike, they attribute it to the fridge. It is cool when it works, but I will warn that sometimes it doesn't guess right.

I drained my pan first then disconnected the hose and it only sputtered oil out for about 60 seconds.. less than half a quart, so it's really not better than to just drain and fill. Next time I'll save the wear on the pump and just drain the pan via the drain plug.
@jonathanDIYsАй бұрын
Good to note... This procedure was the one specified in the Hyundai Elantra Touring service manual: If you have a fluid changer, use this changer to replace the fluid. If you do not have a fluid replace the fluid by the following procedure. 1. Disconnect the hose, which connects the transmission and the oil cooler (inside the radiator). 2. Start the engine and let the fluid drain out. Running condition: "N" range with engine idling CAUTION: The engine should be stopped within one minute after it is started. If the fluid has all drained out before then, the engine should be stopped at that point. 3. Remove the drain plug from the bottom of the transmission case to drain the fluid. ... Hyundai says it is ok for the pump for a minute, but I'm sure it's all on us at this point if it breaks. :)

I installed the whole house surge protector into my main panel, now id like to layer one into the small panel for my outdoor condensing unit. This panel only has a pull block and not a breaker. Also the power supply there is only 220v with a ground, no neutral wire. So, do the white and green wires from the surge protector go onto the panel ground since they are referenced to each other or does the white wire from the surge protector get taped off?
@jonathanDIYsАй бұрын
I do not know if the CHSPT2ULTRA would be appropriate for that installation. You can contact Eaton on their website. They did reply when I asked them questions about their products and was generally very helpful. They probably would be able to tell you if you can install this at the condenser unit or not. That said, there are other SPD2 devices built specifically for AC Condensers. Here is one I found online that just has L1 and L2 hot and a neutral/ground just like your setup. It is designed to go in the pull block as well, so it would seem to be rated for your specific use case: www.five-two-one.com/pdf/LT521SPD_Web.pdf

Does this install require a permit and licensed plumber or is diy as a homeowner normal?
@jonathanDIYsАй бұрын
Thanks for commenting @jamesmaddox7565! I can't comment on this as different jurisdictions have different rules. I live in Texas which has pretty liberal rules for homeowners to do their own work. On top of this, I am outside of the city limits, which means I am not subject to permitting rules. You'll have to check with your local county, town, or city laws. That said, if you're hiring someone else to do this, yes they definitely should be a licensed plumber. You don't want to hire someone who doesn't know what they're doing. As far as I understand, it is illegal for general contractors to do this type of work for liability reasons. If you're doing this yourself, do the research to know exactly what you're doing, then double and triple check your work. It's a relatively simple job, but you need to educate yourself on how to safely do this before going forward with this.

Yeah, a soft start kit might really be able to help you. Look on your AC Condenser and look for LRA and RLA ratings. If you can get the LRA under 41.5 amps, you have a chance of starting it with your generator (assuming you turn everything else off when doing this). Hope it works out for you!

Basically you get 550 watts per horsepower. The general rule of thumb is, generator running wattage divided by 550 roughly equals engine horsepower. BTW, you are going to get voltage drop running such a long extension cord. It's going to stress the generator.
@jonathanDIYsАй бұрын
Thanks for commenting and sharing the info about how many watts per horsepower. The extension cord is large enough gauge to handle the amount of amps the generator pushes out without any significant drop in voltage. The last time I had this run, I was still getting more than 115 volts measured from my Sense power meter. I'll measure my voltage at the generator next time and at one of my outlets and see if it is greater than the 3% max VD that is typically allowed.

I'd be curious to see the votage sag/frequency espcially when you're loading it up all the way. Also be careful on AC startup. The motor inrush is quite large. The microwave and oven are nice soft easy straight loads compared to compressors/electic motors. Look into a soft start for the AC if you plan to use.
@jonathanDIYs3 ай бұрын
Thanks for your comments! I already have a soft start for my AC. I have a video where I set that up. Voltage and frequency seems to stay pretty constant. With the inverter type generator, it seems to either be correct or turn itself off. I didn't seem to notice much sag.

I'm not an electrical engineer, but because the protector is not installed near the supply, the surge will hit all the circuits before it can be limited by the protector. I'd move it to the top of the panel so that the surge can be controlled before it runs down the bus bar.
@jonathanDIYs3 ай бұрын
Hi there, thanks for commenting! I wondered the same thing and did an investigation on that... shot another video you can see here: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/qKeJptyYvJjVpac.html. My general findings is that electricity travels instantly over all the lines, not sequentially from top to bottom. It is more important that the surge protection device is as close to the bus bar as possible rather than being on the 1st slot. Surges can actually occur from the house and does not always come from the mains. In fact, these type of surge protection are not designed to protect against direct lightning strike, it can only protect against secondary surges from lightning events. Thanks again for commenting!

The whole reason for the motor snorkel conversion is to avoid to extra cost of buying a tri fuel generator right? seems to be from what im seeing. maybe there's a little more
@jonathanDIYs5 ай бұрын
You also get more options... As far as I know, they don't really make too many inverter generators that are trifuel. I wanted to have an inverter generator because it outputs cleaner electricity measured in THD total harmonic distortion. Inverter generators are as low as 3-5% while regular generators can be 30-40%. The lower THD is better for electronics and LED lights. You won't get flickering and UPSes will charge properly.
