Great video! One question, how did you know to use the 5 amp fuse on the fuse tap that powers up the switch panel? Is this dependent on the total amps of lights that will be running off the switch panel? @ 5:43
@AZOverland2017
@AZOverland2017 4 сағат бұрын
@@szyang03 The fuse amperage you tap into is not important. They are supplying consistent power on 1 side of the fuse. The fuse is what protects the accessory. So, the 5 amp fuse will continue to protect what it was intended to. And, the fuse that is included in the fuse tap is rated to protect the Control Box power up. They are independent of each other

I pull the fuse with power on and use test light to find hot lug. I place fuse tap so the accessory wire side of fuse tap is NOT on hot lug. If not enough room for tap I use a blade power tap that slides under hot lug and accepts a blade connector.

@AZOverland2017
@AZOverland2017 17 сағат бұрын
@@jeffkeenan5439 "Stuff" getting in a basecoat is typically not an issue. The basecoats don't go down very wet like clear. They dry fast and I'm using a tack rag between coats. Any imperfections can easily be sanded out and blended in before clear. You actually have more of a chance to bury dust and bugs in a single stage because you are laying down 3-5 wet coats and are usually not using a tack rag between those coats. The more wet coats, the more opportunity for things to land in the paint.

What clip numbers did you use for your Bilstein 6112? I got a stock 4Runner limited with no extra weight in the front. I want to do a 2 inch lift in the front. Yours came out to 2.2 so I really want to be at 2 inches no further than that. Can you help me with the right clip number?

I don't remember the positions. Do you have the shocks already? If you have them, they should have a chart of where to install the clips for each side according to the lift you want. If you are ordering them through Underdog Motorsports, Brett will preassemble them or tell you where to install them according to the information you give him

I did my 5160s first while waiting for my 6112s to be assembled by Shock Surplus. I saw another vid that had the front stabilizer disconnected as a first step...good to see that the job can be done without that step. I believe just a small amount of loosening at the LCA bushings is enough to get the movement needed to do the install (keep track of how much the 22mm nut and bolt are turned). I like how you individually labeled the driver and passenger side shocks as the driver side is two circlips higher than the passenger side.

That's all cool but I can't think of 8 devices I'd want to control AND power from one location. A few lights, what else? Have more equipment in the back of the truck of course, but doesn't make sense to control say water pump or fridge from the drivers seat, and they also needs to be powered from a different (aux) battery. How many switches did you end up using in your setup?
@AZOverland2017
@AZOverland2017 7 күн бұрын
I've used 4, but have more additions. Ditch lights, lower light bar, and 2 color rock lights which take up 2 buttons ( 1 to control white and 1 for amber). I'm adding a roof rack light bar with potentially 2 modes as well, and rear tack lights. They can be used to control a horn ( if you get one with a monetary function). They also have them in a 4 or 6 switch configuration

Have you confirmed the positioning of the concave washer is correct at 5:05? I haven't had any issues in the 10,000+ miles since I've installed them using your video, but just learned that the top washer may, possibly, need to be installed the other way. From Bilstein's instructions: "F. Install the upper bushing, Bilstein washer (concave side down), and lock nut onto the shock stem. If a chassis hoist has been used, be sure to lower the vehicle such that its full weight is on the suspension prior to fully tightening the fasteners."

@@AZOverland2017 Ya. Completely random post on a forum led me to look up pics of 5160 installs to try and help them and found an install from 88 Rotors (big installer in Southern California) with the washer the other way. Piqued my interest so I googled "Bilstein 5160 Install Instructions" and found a Bilsten official link with a PDF which showed the washer the other way. And, of course, I have my 6112 instructions, but can't find my 5160 instructions. Not worried about it; it's more of a curiosity at this point.

If you are referring to the front, they are unbolted and pulled off the body panel, so no issue there. On the rears, if I happen to hit it with the 600, it wouldn't make a difference because they are being refinished (sanded) anyway. That being said, I have very good control over my tools either way and very confident what I' able to do. If I had any concerns, they would have been completely removed or masked as I did before paint.

I showed the clear I used in the previous video when I painted this vehicle. Not cheap. Were you using low solids or high solids clear? Urethane, enamel, lacquer? I've sprayed all of them. I used to use 1,000 -1,200 when sanding and polishing when I did this for a living in the late 80's and early 90's. There are different products and different techniques now, than when I did it then. Much of what you use and how you use it will depend on your end goal.

@AZOverland2017
@AZOverland2017 10 күн бұрын
You definitely don't want to polish the color coat before clear. If it was going to be a show car, you could wet sand the color coat with a fine sandpaper before clear, but that gets very involved. You can skip clear if you go with a Single Stage paint. That will be applied wet and produce a gloss.
