Box 2336 was transmitted at 12:01 for a report of a house fire at 854 N. 8th Street. It was dispatched with possible entrapment.
Engine 4, 9, 6, Truck 2 and Car 43 (Wehr) responded. Companies arrived to heavy smoke and fire showing from a 3-story M/O/R.
Engine 4 stretched in and immediately began an interior attack. Crews darkened down the fire on the first and second floors. The rear porch roof ignited as the fire vented out of the rear of the dwelling.
The 2nd alarm was transmitted immediately sending Engines 10, 13 and 14. The 3rd alarm was transmitted by Chief 40 (Scheirer) bringing in Engine 11.
The fire extended to the Delta exposure and Delta 1 via the cockloft and walls. The bravo exposure also sustained fire damage.
Crews stretched multiple hand lines. Engine 11 positioned on Greenleaf and stretched a feeder line into the alley in the rear. A hand line was used to hit the fire on the exterior of 854 and 856. The line was then stretched into the rear second floor of exposure Delta 1. Members in this exposure were pulling ceilings in an attempt to stop the fire from spreading to the next exposure.
Command transmitted a 10-69 (evacuation) of the fire buildings as the fire intensified in the exposures.
The 4th alarm was transmitted sending reserve engines 5, 8 and reserve truck 1 to the scene plus all off-duty firefighters.
Trucks 2 and 1 were set up on 8th Street with their elevated master streams as the fire blew through the roof of the exposures. Engine 11's ladder was set up on Greenleaf.
The fire burned out of control for more than 3 hours and were still operating 5 hours later.
5 firefighters were injured during the blaze. An air-conditioned tent was set up to rehabilitate the firefighters.
The fire appears to have started in the kitchen.
A total of 7 homes were damaged.

Police and Fire should always work to help each other out as we are both doing a selfless job were total strangers lives are put before our own . Great job guys to the stations involved . I don’t see an aerial, I don’t see a deck gun. I don’t see knocking the fire down from the bottom up. Fire goes up, any fire on the top put out, will promptly be replaced by fire on the bottom. I’d love to know what crews are doing with their air bells going off in the midst of a fire sandwich, without proper suppression set up first.

I'm sure all the firefighters doing the job will be extremely grateful for your extremely professional input but, there are practical limits to what a vehicle can carry and a gallon of water weighs ten pounds. It is totally impractical to fit water tanks to special appliances like aerial ladder platforms that weigh close on 20 tons and more and, besides, just how long do you think a four hundred gallon water tank lasts using an aerial monitor. Less than one minute! Water tanks are basically for hose-reel or 38mm 'first aid' attack such as a one room fire order fire. You just cannot send in firefighters without establishing a constant and reliable water supply. Not only is it bad practice, it is tantamount to a death sentence. I suggest you leave the firefighting and appliance design to those trained to do it.

Later due engine company (ies ) ensure initial line is operating and effective, ensure patent wayer supply and stretch additional lines. Truck companies are tasked eith evey thing else. Assigning specific tasks, to members (riding assignments) assigned to apparatus designed and equiped to perform those tasks provide for a "safer" incidentre and diminishes "freelanciing ' Far more effective use of your prople. There are aerial apparatus that have pumps and small booster tanks. Though popular in dome areas of the country, they're usually not wrll thought out and best have far more shortcomings than advantages. They are "bean coumter machines" (I'm certain I'll be getting a shitload of comments) these machines can't carry enough equipment. (hosr, water, appliance or portable ladders, tools, etc) unit mission is "schizophrenic"and freelancing" much more difficult to manage. The most important aspect is proper staffing ! Without enough members assignef to a sufficient nimbet of companies. Fires must be fougjt consecutively not concurently. This is the case in virtually every incident you view on line.

I don't understand venting unless you can get water down the vented area. It also seems in these video's they fight the wrong fire.If the building is destroyed any way why not save the remaining structures!
@JB91710
@JB91710 7 жыл бұрын
The NON thought out Idea is that if you cut a hole in the roof, heat rises and you create a "Chimney" that will let the heat from lower floors go out the top and make the lower floors safer for fire fighters. If they were to actually THINK or had any idea how a chimney functions, they would know you Can NOT turn a structure into a chimney. Therefore, it's a dangerous and useless risk to fire fighters and Helps to burn the roof off.

@@JB91710 not always the case. If you have a top floor fire. In an attic, an attic of attachef occupancied or cockloft or a balloon frame joint you better get the roof. Of it's lightwright construction, then that's a limiting factor. If your faced with cimtents only, horizontal usually eill suffice.

A vented roof is not required. Unnecessary risk and will help the fire accelerate UHM, which it did. Water on the fire? You think? If the fire didn't totally destroy the house, the excessive use of aerial water did. "Put the fire out as fast as you can using the least amount of water". This will make you have to think.
