Great review of the H2/grip (boost). Agree with your strengths and improvements that Fuji could address. Your Fuji glass recommendations are spot on. Viltrox 13mm on the H2 is an instant go to for environmental work. We enjoy the H2's capabilities for stills and video client work, powerful options to deliver beyond client expectations.

I love two design details, one it's the integrated straps and other is the amount of space for the right hand in the rear right side of the camera. People with big hands sometimes push buttons when only holding other cameras because the lack of space (Sony a6000 line).

I don't shoot video but I watch all of your videos regardless. I agree with your review wholeheartedly. I have the XH2s and most of what you say can be applied. I also have the X-T5 and was debating between this and the XH2 but since I already had the XH2s, I wanted a different body style for street photography. Regarding the XH2s, I was skeptical about the resolution as well as the form factor (PASM). However, both my X-T5 and XH2s are everything I need. As you also mentioned, I'm noticing that the Lightroom files are significantly better. Also, autofocus has improved greatly with all the firmware updates and I use my XH2s for wildlife. You just have to know how to set up the tracking appropriately. Fujifilm has created incredible products in the last decade and fit my style of shooting. I'm sorry video isn't up to your standards yet, but perhaps it's on the horizon. The only thing I can complain about is lens selection. I am glad that Viltrox and Sigma are starting to offer us some excellent options. Thanks again!

Thank you very much for this impression video. It was quite overdue. I have also the oppinion that your videos are among the best in KZfaq. I highly consider this to buy as my first interchangeable lens camera over a A7IV or a A7CII. Despite the fact that they offer a better autofocus system and that the Sony lens system is mostly cheaper and offers more options at any price point.

A very good review. I owe the X-H2 for 10 months, and the review matches my experience with it. For the price, you get a very capable camera, with very good image quality. One of the few things I find annoying is the on-off switch, that is quite hard to move. Overall, I am very happy with this camera.

Great review. As purely a stills photographer, I'll be leaning more towards the X-T5, but a lot of what was said here applies to that camera in the stills department. This review basically solidifies my choice for a future upgrade (coming from X-T4).
@unusedTV

I'm a pure stills photog too, but prefer the X-H2 over the X-T5. I found that the dials on top don't really add much, as they'll largely be in 'C' mode anyway. Not all intermediate values are available on the dial itself so you'll end up having aperture on the lens, and shutter and ISO on the command wheels. The X-H2's custom modes on a dial are excellent though, I can switch between pre-shot with bird subject detection to (tripod) landscape settings to portrait settings with one click off the PASM-wheel. I also found the X-H2's deeper grip to be much more ergonomic, especially with heavy lenses. I don't have big hands, but the X-T5 is just too flat. There's barely anything to hold on to. If you have the chance, go to a camera store and hold/test them both to see which feels best. Just my €0.02 - whichever you get, enjoy it!
@mcelliot

Problem with the XT series and the X pro series, is the old dials. If you really use the camera, those dials fail. I have had to return two for major services now, with grit in the dials making them inoperable. Have shifted the XH2 and very happy even if it is pretty heavy for an APSc body
@BenLomonRail
@BenLomonRail 7 ай бұрын
@@mcelliot Good argument. I usually leave my camera in “aperture priority”, so the shutter speed dial rarely changes from A. I can relate with my ISO dial occasionally sticking and affecting the drive mode selector underneath, but it’s fine most of the time.

@@unusedTV Thanks for the advice! I've handled both in stores previously, and I do agree that the X-H2 feels better in hand. But the X-T5 is still an upgrade from the 4 in terms of grip. I also get the 2-axis tilting screen, which I much prefer over the flip screen (though I've managed for 3.5 years on the X-T4).

One major reason I'm thinking of buying X-H2 over X-T5 is the battery grip. I need the camera to run all day and I need to shoot in portrait mode a lot. The XT-5 would be perfect as is... but Fuji just decided I can't have a battery grip for it. Very anti-consumer imho.

I think fuji is doing the same mistake panasonic was doing for many many years. So many customers almost shout to fuji to improve the AF in video mode...as you said, there is no excuses anymore. I am thinking to sell my Fuji system to get into the Sony System. There will be many things I will miss because the xh2s has many good things to give but AF and IBIS for video is still not there and I waited a long time for firmware updates. Thanks for your review

Gfx100ii gained af tracking in video finally. Maybe theyll import that along and improve general af speed. But truth be told , its more so fuji glass' design that holds them back , their focusing system uses an older multi part principle. The icing on the cake is fuji kind of not really accepting themselves as a video camera ( as seen in the jumpy focus change in most review )

If you haven't already, make sure to set up the AF-C custom settings on the X-H2/X-H2S. There are 5 specific profiles and a sixth custom (all can be edited). I have one of these and I think it is superb. There is one annoyance and I'm wondering if it is just my copy or if it is common to them all: I find the shutter button very "mushy" and indistinct. I find it very difficult to reliably half-press the shutter button to lock focus and I frequently miss the half-way point and release the shutter by accident. I have never had this problem with any other camera and I was wondering if other X-H2 users found the same thing?
@JoernR
@JoernR 7 ай бұрын
Kind of. ;) - I know that a "clicky" shutter button might cause a tiny bit more unwanted shake - it's the same with firearms. But still I would prefer a "feelable breaking point". I don't miss the half-press point, but sometimes it's like constantly changing between half-press and no press at all: You keep the button pressed, but the X-H2 keeps on AF beeping several times. This depends a bit on where your finger rests on the button. All in all, I also don't like the no-breaking-point design too much.

What really frustrates me about the X-H2, is the time it takes to go into Play (to show the image). For unknown reasons, it is dependant on what lens, what focal lenght you put zoom at (if it is a zoom lens) and importantly where focus is at. E.g. if you have the 16-80mm, try setting it at 80mm and minimum focus distance. Then press play. The time elapsed before you see an image on screen is now about 3.5 seconds. Three point five seconds. That is insane. If you mount a non-comunicating third party lens, it only takes about a half second to go to Play. This is how good the camera theoreticly CAN perform, but sadly it does not. (The performance with the 16-80mm is the worst of the lenses I have in this respect, but all the fuji lenses I have, take longer when at close focus. For no good reason.)

This Fujifilm X-H2 does what cropsensor cameras has to do to compete with FF cameras as the same price. This is outspec them at the same price and the X-H2 does this. Fuji AF in video seems to be improving, but Panasonic PDAF is better in the same priced S5II. I dont understand the hate you have towards fully articulated sceens. All Panasonic cameras such as S5, S5II, S5IIx, S1H, GH5, GH5 II, GH6 and GH9 II has it. Fuji X-H and X-S line has it. All Canon cameras has it, only R3 don't. OM Systems OM-5 and OM-1 has it.
