I just want to go and purchase one of these when watching this. They are so classic bad ass super bikes. Good tip there about the inlet rubbers 👍

They’re awesome looking bikes, iconic for sure. Just hope it doesn’t break my bank restoring it LOL

Yes, this is the one that I have been waiting for. I've got a 1986 slabside in my shed that's in the same condition as yours. I'll be watching with great interest, thanks.

Just a thought on removing the engine. When I did my VF1000f and VF1000r, I removed the engine last (actually I removed the frame from the engine lol). I realize this bike doesn't have a similar removable frame section but I think it'll be easier than a hoist. Once you remove the front forks/head and rear swing arm, you'll have a bare frame and engine. Lay it on its side and block the engine. The frame will be quite light and you should be able to just lift it off sideways.

Yea, very true, I’ve been debating that approach actually. I’m hoping to ge to that shortly but want to remove Anni h of stuff off the engine while it’s in the frame as it’s easier to keep the engine steady (like pulling the starter clutch who needs a specific puller. We will see how far I get before Christmas . Thanks !

Those cams are the same as all years GSX1100F just keep the slingshot sprockets. They should have a B on the notched end to verify you are purchasing proper replacements. They are popular for upgrades on other oil cooled models such as bandits as are the dot heads so you'll be competing with those buyers for them.

Thanks for the info. I’m not using this engine, you will see in later episodes, it’s trashed. Bandit 1200 going in

Hi man. Writing from Ireland. Just wondering g if it would be OK for me to take some screen grabs of the tank you stripped showing all the holes in it for a video I will be doing in the future on my slabby project. Merry Christmas to you and your family.

This is going to be a ton of work but should be very rewarding once completed. Question on the wintergreen. Does it eventually go back to being hard after a short while or have you found it lasts? I just picked some up for a restoration I'm doing and hoping it's long lasting.
@true-moto-resto7 ай бұрын
The wintergreen keeps them soft for a long time. The only thing I find you have to be very careful of is the same orings and carb bowl gaskets, 30 min max or they will swell. Never had carb boots swell though

Great job with the wintergreen, so...just to clarify, its 3 parts rubbing alcohol to 1 part wintergreen?
