I will maintain that it's kind of a shame that they didn't stay true to the original kitbash with the Miranda bridge module when they recreated if for Eaglemoss... and then by extension here as well. I kinda like the look of the ship that way, and that it sets the size to be smaller, despite the saucer being the same design as the Excelsior.

I love this ship , the way it was originally designed and intended. It was supposed to be a small ship, roughly the size of the bug ship. Even though it had the Excelsior saucer shape it was actually supposed to be smaller. It was supposed to match the parts of the Miranda class in which it had a Miranda class bridge and the rollbars were supposed to be the same. With the Miranda class bridge and roll bars, it would make the saucer smaller. The actual designer designed it to be small like that and not to be an actual Excelsior class size saucer. When looking at it on screen, it does not look like an Excelsior saucer, but smaller. I like to always go with what the designer created when they design the actual model.

I didn't like that the centaur class fired its phaser from the "rim" on the bottom of the saucer instead of the clearly visible emitters

I just did a visual comparison using the Protostar as a 140m reference. Prodigy is using the Centaur at the larger DS9TM size.

The Centaur class returned for Resurgence and looks somewhat more DS9 there :)

Does it bother anyone else that they got the scale wrong from the actual studio model. Adam bucker says that he designed and built it with a reliant/ refit Connie Bridge module and stated it actually smaller than a miranda class.

I love the Centaur. This bothers me constantly, especially when the windows on screen in the DS9 S5 episode are nothing like what is seen in the DS9 tech manual. On screen cannon was always supposed to trump of any other resource. I always chalked it up to the tech manual having quite a few errors but now on screen it's been retconned to be an Excelsior saucer instead of an Excelsior shaped saucer, and Eaglemoss went with the tech manual version. Womp

Interestingly, on the ventral side of the saucer rim, aka the underside, you can spot some kind of edge - which is the edge that is present on the AMT 1/1000 excelsior plastic model kit and indicates where the two halves of the plastic model join. Usually, Model builders would sand and putty that seam to make to more smooth and canon. But apparently, on the original centaur model this was never been taken care of (no need for a 90s tube TV and also no time, I guess). And now we have this very seam on the CG model, which shows how literal this CG model was build. Really interesting quirk.

You point out one difference but there is a very big difference you missed. In the shot comparison of the tip of the Centaur the registry number is curved completely different. The Eaglemoss model has the registry follow the gridlines while the Prodigy version has a harsher curve on the upper regustry number. The curve is halfway between the gridline curve and the shape of the Excelsior shuttlebay piece shape.
