Man, your channel has honestly brought out so much in me I've been shoving down over the last few years. Seeing you be such a decent human being, and reading these comments of people who truly just wish happiness and peace on others, has refreshed my soul in a way I didn't think possible. Thank you, Steve, and Jess (in Paradise), for bringing a little bit of humanity back to the insanity of the internet.

Hi Steve, I remembered watching these videos of yours a few years ago and thinking "Wow, this guy is really pulling himself up from his bootstraps, I wish him the best" to now thinking "Look what he has become". These videos are a bit of an inspiration to me in this difficult time of COVID uncertainty and interrupted supply lines causing issues at my work and I thank you.

I’ve been having a hard time sleeping and last night was especially awful. I came back to this series - your 8 weeks at school - to help keep my mind off my worries, both national and personal, and it was so nice. I think I found you even earlier than this time period - maybe not long after Boondocking - and I am so happy to see your success. My best to Beautiful Wife and Crazy Neighbor. By the way, I would love to to see an updated tour of how the house reno is going. ✌️

Hi Steve, I've done a mess load of all kinds of private security work over the years, and Rule #1 is that spooky movies, books, etc... are a no-no because it can make for a miserable night on post, but Imagination also takes us to amazing places, so I stick with videos of puppies, kittens, majestic landscapes & hunkering down with Steve, and deal with evil ONLY when confronted. I love your refreshing honesty brother, absolutely no macho bullshit! Puppies & Kittens... - Godspeed

watching the bear videos in the woods, is like watching motorcycle crash videos before going out on a long ride. They are grounding and remind you of the danger you are putting yourself in. I believe its your body telling you, to be alert and be smart. I also ride safer after a little motorcycle stupidity binge. Know this is 2018 video but love your stuff Steve!

I just found this channel.....I’ve subbed and am being inspired by you. I bought an off-grid cabin,...it was cold into May for me. It all turned out all right. Poor Timothy Treadwell! He didn’t appreciate his foxes enough. Did you notice that ? He was hung up on bears when the foxes were really wanting to share life with him. Moral of the tail, so to speak: notice who is asking for your attention, I guess. Keep it up. You’re an inspiration!

Hey Steve I've always wanted to get into winter camping, but most of the tents I looked at really do require two people to set them up. Especially when you're an old guy. But I saw that clam ice fishing shack and went and checked it out and the prices are comparable with wall tents, alls I have to do was put a stove jack in it. I like to thank you for all your experimenting.

brisk. one thing i recommend. if you have access to power like you do in this video. or if you have a battery backup system of at least 200amp hours with a 500watt inverter minimum. I highly recommend an electric blanket of full or queen size. put it inside your sleeping bag around you and it will help stave off the chill. I live in a bus in Wisconsin and i remember when it stayed below -20 for a solid week this past winter. and without my electric blanket id probably have frozen to death. I didnt have the bus entirely insulated for last winter and all i have is a 1500watt electric infrared heater. inside got down to 25-30 overnight mid 50s during the day in the sun ( all temps in Fahrenheit) but with the electric blanket under me and 6 blankets over me i was near roasting. for a winter emergency prep thing i always recommend the 500watt inverter and the electric blanket (only draws 200watts on high depending on size and brand) in case you are stranded and can still plug into the 12v outlet. it will keep you from freezing and could save your life. also works good for camping in the back of a van or truck if you have a second battery (at least 100Amp hours) you can disconnect from the main battery while using it overnight ( so you dont drain your starting battery) and then after you start the vehicle you can reconnect the second battery with a quick switch and the engine will charge that one back up while you go to work or whatever. can also attach at least 200watts of solar panels to the roof to recharge that battery in a day

Omg I can't believe you mentioned Timothy Treadwell. He was an acquaintance of mine, and I was going to post a comment on (one of your videos that I watched yesterday) that you remind me of him!! Not just physical resemblance but something about your demeanor reminds me if Timothy. It was tragic what happened to Timothy. It's a long story, but I never agreed with the risks he took with the bears out in Alaska. Unfortunately his untimely death should serve as a reminder to us all not take every precaution necessary from any wild animal. Stay safe Steve!

I would buy some thinsulate insulation and gets the wife to sew an inner layer i could hang inside that tent. Then design a mat that has gallium filled tubing to absorb and conduct the heat with a roll out bamboo floor. To keep things toasty. If i had to turn a tent like that one into a yurt to get by in. A 12 volt electric motor that powered a cryogenic stirling piston that turned the gases in the air into a very cold liquid that filled an ins tank with a bell siphon that charged a modified absorption refrigerator then filled a large fin aluminum radiator with a fantastic fan to draw air through radiator for air conditioning with a vent pipe to vent out the boil off from the heat exchange of the liquid air. Just some wild ideas for you. 😊😉

Dude, you're a champ! Saying that from sunny 60 degrees N. Carolina. Just wanna say that I've really enjoyed your journey. Lot of helpful tips. Wanna ask, from someone that's lived below the Mason Dixon line all his life......I went to Minnesota about 10 years ago in February when it was -30 Fahrenheit and I was struck by the fact that strip malls up there had electrical outlets to plug in your car battery warmer! I guess because you haven't mentioned it, you've done that because it's a given. Really enjoyed your adventured. Good luck with school.

My truck has a plug in to keep the block warm if it gets too cold, but somehow it's started every morning even at -10F ... much colder and I would need to plug it in. Talk about black bears someone got a 805 lb black bear here in New Jersey a few weeks ago which is pretty sizable and you may not think we have many bears here but we do fortunately or unfortunately. At any rate keep on producing these videos as their really fun to watch and I look forward to them great content and you can learn quite a bit from what you're doing. That’s a dangerous adapter you have It allows you to draw more amps then that cord can safely carry. The extreme cold will help keep the insulation from melting off but be careful not to lay it on anything flammable and leave it in the open for the air to cool.
