The guy did three things: A) He played Luke Skywalker because he was told that three more movies with this caracter in it would soon be made, with or without him, the original actor, reprising his role and with Disney being fine with the concept of bringing another actor to portray the "updated version", M.H decided to do his job and tried to channel, to be the real Luke Skywalker, as best he could. B) He acted his best and to his credit, he was formidable despite the obvious and genuine fact that he found this version of Luke Sky. repulsive. He did as much as he could whilst tied, gagged and bound to say, do and behave like he was told, both when acting on screen and during interviews, meaning that if nothing else, M.H did his best with what could be done, despite his protest and reticence. C) Finally, he warned and informed the public about what he refuted openly first, before being forced to "STFU" by Disney and he did so because he didn't want to fuel the fire created by fan outrage after facing the idea that Luke would canonically become this sorry old hermit that even Gollum would find pitiful beyond compare. We KNOW M.H didn't agree at all with the way Luke Skywalker, as a caracter, was utterly destroyed. Luke, as an example and as a form of inspiration, was revered, all over the world, as an embodiment of hope and heroism. M.H, of course, was happy to represent those traits through his caracter, but with the new trilogy it was either him, doing what he didn't want to do, or someone else, a willing "yes man", a person that wouldn't even try to act like the real Luke Skywalker was back in the original trilogy. Since Lea, Han, Chewbacca and pretty much everyone else but Lando came back as beloved caracters, portrayed by the same folks, M.H did the same for Luke, rather than be left out of Star Wars and become the live version of what they say Luke has: A grumpy old bitter husk sniveling and mumbling in the shadows. He just didn't know what they would do with the caracter and once he was under contract, well...

Harrison Ford is partly responsible in the fact that he would only agree to do another Star Wars movie if Han Solo dies by the end. That limited all the original characters to appear together to just one movie. However that doesn't explain nor excuse J.J. Politics can easily be more entertaining than this. It's more interesting almost any day of the week, but Lucas couldn't write that part either.
@Adorni
@Adorni 5 жыл бұрын
Politics, when they're written well in stories, can be very entertaining. Look at "A Song of Ice and Fire." Those books are almost entirely about the politics between different factions vying for the Iron Throne. Final Fantasy Tactics is widely considered one of the best games to bear the title "Final Fantasy," and it's got a huge political backdrop behind it. "Politics" are intrinsic to the way a world is built, because you have to understand how different opposing forces will interact with each other on a basic level. Where this fails is when you try shoehorning in social politics in hamfisted and unwanted fashions, breaking your world's lore in the process. When the only conceivable reason, for example, that Rey is so bloody powerful as a Jedi seems to be because she's a woman (because I have tried to figure out why else this would be) you are basically breaking the pre-established lore in half like a twix bar; Jedi were people born with the ability to feel and manipulate the Force, but had to learn how to do it by other Jedi. They had to learn how to fight with a Lightsaber, how to resist the pull of the Dark Side. And they grew stronger or weaker by using their power regularly, and that each individual Jedi had their own respective strength caps. The reason, for example, Obi Wan was able to apparently effortlessly alter two Stormtrooper's cognitive perceptions by making a gesture and saying "These aren't the droids you're looking for," isn't because it's an easy thing to do, it's because he's had years and years of practice doing this, especially given that the Empire was actively hunting him down for that period of time, and using the Mind Trick was probably one of his most effective tools. Practice makes perfect, as the old saying goes. So to have Rey perform the trick on a Storm Trooper, when she's never been shown on-screen of Force Users being able to do this, makes no sense whatsoever. Why is this? Well I guess it's because she's a woman? Yaaaay, girl power XP

I am currently writing something (not professionally, but still). I rewrite almost everything five times on the character sheets and the plot before writing the actual story because I know these things are awful the first time around. Gotta make the characters consistent, the in-universe rules make sense and never bend, and then make the story enjoyable. That shitty thing he spat out feels like the bullet point version of a plot draft, not even a good enough summary of it, and then went off to write around it.

Exactly. Luke understands the power of Redemption. He has faith in other people, and his faith is always rewarded. Luke believes that the woman in the Hologram is someone worth investigating, and it turns out that she's a princess, and his sister. He believes that Mad old Ben Kenobi is worth knowing, and it turns out that Kenobi is a Jedi Knight and a veteran of the clone wars. Luke has faith that there's more to Han than a money-hungry rogue, and his faith is rewarded. Luke believes that even a monster like Vader can be redeemed, and his optimism saves the galaxy. There is NO way a person like Luke Skywalker would abandon the Jedi order because they made the mistake of accidentally allowing Palpatine's rise, and there's no way he would try to murder his nephew because the boy had a bad dream and was 'irredeemable'.

@@AniGaAG I think bagrada1 was referring to the Luke Skywalker of the EU, who established the majority of his order on the basis of redemption- alot of his first students suffered falls to the dark side, yet Luke brought them to light and encouraged to use their abilities to help the universe. His Jedi Order was ultimately more healthy and more in-tune with the universe than previous iterations. Still waiting to hear something about The Last Jedi, the movie this review is about. I personally think The Force Awakes was a decent movie with lots of potential. The problem is that the next movie was a travesty of plot holes, making up things that are already well established, having pointless characters do stupid and useless things, wasted potential, and making stupid jokes that were not funny. It was visually well executed and that is it. Everything else was a mess at best and an unmitigated disaster at worst. The space chase was beyond ridiculous, there were no light saber fights with actual sabers clashing, and Rey is such an unbelievable Mary Sue that you feel no connection to her whatsoever. And the assassination of Luke (and Chewie) was just sickening. Great that you liked it. I certainly did not. Now, have anything from THIS movie to add?

- Leia gets sucked out into the vacum of space. There's no suction whatsoever when they open the door to bring her in. - BB8 can't fix a motherboard with his skills but ramming his head into it fixes it. - Rogue One shows Y-Wing bombers knock the power out of a star destroyer in seconds. 30+ years later bombers attack a star destoyer slowly and are easily destroyed. - Luke wants nothing to do with the Jedi anymore so he moves into and lives at a Jedi temple and wears a Jedi robe. - Luke doesn't want anyone to find him, so he leaves part of a map to find him stored in R2. - Luke astral projects himself so he can't be harmed. He dies after astral projecting himself. - Rey thought the force was a fairy tale, but then 3 days later can use it to beat Kylo and Luke who trained in the force there entire lives. - Poe risked his life big time and destroyed Star Killer base for The Resistence saving billions of lives. Took out the the big canons of the dreadnaught saving the resistence ships from certain annihilation. The Resistence doesn't trust him, slapping him, calling him an out of control fly boy, shooting him with a stun gun, putting him in jail, won't give him life saving information. Luke got a medal for destroying the death star. Poe got thrown under the bus for destroying Star Killer base. - Yoda who has dedicated his life to teaching the Jedi texts to people, finds the Jedi text to be boring. "Page turners they are not." - Ghost Yoda can shoot lighting. He never shows up to a fight to help. - The guy who offers to be the code breaker is staying in jail even though he can leave at any moment. There's no reason for him to stay in jail. - Finn needs a pilot to fly him off the star destoyer. Fly's a ship to Canto Bight. Fly's a ship to take on the walkers. While in a coma Finn learned how to fly spaceships apparently. - Time needs to be spent on Rey training character development. Movie spends a bunch of time at a casino. - Rose wants to get in and out quickly on the Canto Bight mission. Wears a greasy mechanic outfit in the casino. Lands ship in the middle of beach, in front of casino. - Hux is commander over the fleet. Doesn't command to do even the most basic military tactics. (in ESB two star destroyers intercepted the Falcon when it was being chased) - The starships are fusion powered and fuel would last for years. Ships run on gas and will be out in a few hours, Rose says "the fleet is running on fumes". - They say "may the force be with you" in Star Wars. Holdo says "godspeed rebels". (uhm, aren't they the resistence?) - Finn is going to crash a ship into the giant laser to save what he loves. Rose crashes into him and stops him so she can tell him he needs to save what he loves.

Chase Smith she was referring to the ships....the whole point of most of the movie is to help the resistance fleet get away before they run out of fuel and as the original comment said starships are fusion powered and shouldn’t have this problem, especially for a organisation which is supposedly supported by the republic but it happens anyway. It just further shows the lack of knowledge the man directing the movie has on the universe he is currently in charge of

Star Wars came out when I was just getting to that rebellious point of life and influenced so many of my life choices in a positive way. I can't find any inspirational aspects to these new films, quite the opposite in fact. But as Mark Hamill himself said, "it's just a movie". Too bad the truth is, it's just a poorly made movie. The scene between Luke and R2 D2 was the only redeeming moment of the entire film.

YES! It took me a while to figure out that Luke was what angered me. Other stuff was just dumb. After figuring that out, I set it aside and found I was still angry. And that was over the canon reboot that happened before our eyes in this film. And then I set that aside. And realized I was angry over the craptastic trope universe where you are always wrong regardless of what choice you make or what action you take. Choose A? WRONG! Choose the Opposite of A? STILL WRONG! It's like an outer limits episode. When I set that aside, the rest was just dumb stuff but I wasn't angry over it and I probably would have seen IX once to close the book. As it is now tho- I will not give Disney my money for Star Wars product again.

Evolved Turtle, for me there were two problems with how Luke was handled. The first is that where we left Luke at the end of RTJ and where we find him at the start of the TLJ are two very different places. Now thirty years have passed so it is entirely possible for the character to have changed, but without seeing that change it's so very, very jarring. Add to that the only explanation for that change is a couple of throwaway lines and a dodgy flashback. It reeks of a writer saying 'just accept this and don't think about it' to the audience when it comes to his character. The second problem for me, is that even if you accept that Luke has become disillusioned with the Jedi, he still willfully buggers off to die alone leaving two Dark Jedi and a handful of his former students to run around creating chaos in the galaxy. It's a total dick move and as a result a lot of people suffer for it.

It baffles me that people saw this series and concluded Mauler was a "crying man-baby" and used the series as an example of the "toxic, unfair hate" towards this movie - I've hardly seen a better example of a video with such thorough and fair argumentation. Although I guess, despite sitting through 2 hours of TLJ, they didn't bother to even sit through one full video of this, so I can't blame them for getting the entire content wrong. And this is as good a place as any to point out that a group of people desperately clinging onto anything to try and argue that the sequels were good are calling fans of the OT (and prequels) that hate episodes 7-9 immature and part of "group-think" (yes, an actual comment accused people making actual arguments against TLJ of "group-think"). It was pretty obvious that using people's political leanings as way to deflect criticism was baked right into the film's marketing. You know: "anyone who doesn't like the sequel trilogy is a racist misogynist." That way they get a bunch of dumb progressives (and I say that as a progressive myself) who will tenaciously defend it no matter how stupid and bad it is. Obscenely privileged film executives from a massive corporation have figured out a way to get supposed progressives on their side. It's ridiculous. Honestly that kind of thing is built in the marketing of _a lot_ of entertainment now and is sometimes present in the entertainment itself. It's stupid and needlessly divisive but a least the people on Twitter are supporting them, right? Sure people have been abandoning once beloved franchises like Star Wars and Marvel but it was worth it to score some cheap political points.

Worst part of Poe being trashed for the bombers is that it was implied that it was Leia's plan that he followed in the first place. So he is trashed for following the plan that was decided upon. Here's a point against the people who say that it makes sense for Luke to be who he is in TLJ. When they say "Well it makes sense because he was traumatized." Sure, it is traumatizing to lose one of your family to the dark side and see all that you built brought to ruin by said family member. Do you know what else is traumatizing? Learning that one of the most evil men in the galaxy, a murderer, a man that played perhaps the most significant role in the destruction of the Jedi Order and the establishment of the Galactic Empire, is your father. Luke learned that from the man himself. It was a truth that should've broken him and do you know what Luke did? He had a long, hard think about it. He may have struggled with dark thoughts or impulses, doubts about himself or his future, or of the goodness inherent within him. But Luke Skywalker, our hero, picked himself up and decided, "No, that is not my fate or my father's fate. I will save him or die trying." That is Luke Skywalker. That is the greatest Jedi who ever lived.

That's what gets me. Here's a man full of hope who SUCCEEDS in turning his father back to the Light Side. There's no reason for him to lose his hope yet. Even if he did get a vision/nightmare that suggested Kid Solo would go evil, why the hell wouldn't he have the same hope he did in the OT? There's no point where he loses his hope prior to that. If his hope is strong enough to keep him focused on saving his father instead of killing him, why would it be shaken so badly by a vision/nightmare of his nephew being in the same situation? He's beaten the Dark Side once before. Surely, he'd believe he could do it again. His reaction to the vision/nightmare might have made some sense if there was a scene at some point depicting him losing his hope prior to that.
@WwZa7
@WwZa7 5 жыл бұрын
So he should grab the saber and slaughter evil? Great plan! Last time he did that, he lost his arm, than almost killed his own father, than he almost killed his nephew, turned his academy to dust and created new sith group. He literally did what you all wanted, and it led to believable results. Luke was always a more of a pacifist, yet he felt obligated to fulfill his responsibilities as a jedi to bring balance. The trauma here is that HE was the LAST JEDI in the whole galaxy, and yet he created new breed of siths. Now if you say, that "hurr durr if he was such pacifist, why did he attacked his nephew". Well why than did you wanted him to do force unleashed shit? What kind of double standard is it? He is a flawed character. As I stated, he felt obligated to fulfill his responsibilities as a jedi, and struggled to do it as a pacifist. Ironically, his past is all what haters expected him to do. And this led to his failure.
@rault114
@rault114 5 жыл бұрын
Who said he should do "force unleashed shit?" I don't think I've seen one comment where anyone wanted him to "grab the saber and slaughter evil." Am I missing something somewhere? As far as the trauma is concerned, he didn't create a "new breed of siths." That happened, BECAUSE he tried to kill his nephew. We're arguing that he WOULDN'T HAVE TRIED TO KILL HIS NEPHEW. The only conceivable way for OT Luke to reach that point is if there was a previous trauma severe enough to shake his hope. They showed exactly nothing that would reasonably cause a character like OT Luke to resort to violence like that when he refused to kill Vader. You're right. He's a flawed Jedi. As the Prequels showed, proper Jedi fight evil (especially the Sith). Luke didn't really do that post-training, except for his implied decent into darkness during RoTJ. Proper Jedi control their emotions; Luke is very emotional all the time and is driven by hope. Did anyone call Luke a pacifist (other than you)? Luke killed more than his share of people. We're arguing that he is the embodiment of hope, not that he's a pacifist.
@WwZa7
@WwZa7 5 жыл бұрын
"As far as the trauma is concerned, he didn't create a "new breed of siths." That happened, BECAUSE he tried to kill his nephew." I agree. But Luke felt responsible for that. In his mind HE was the one who created Kylo Ren. And yes, he never wanted to kill his father, but first he gave him hard beating while he was in rage. And that's exactly what we saw - he felt enraged, but he quickly refused to do it. This is what I ment by pacifism (and mostly haters call him "hurr but bruh he is pacifist not grumpy old man durr"). So again - his past is all you expected him to do. I'll ask you than: I've never seen any hater to write a better script for Luke's reaction after Rey gave him a lightsaber. Could you be first? If you didn't wanted him to do what he did in the movie, nor didn't wanted him to go guns (or sabers) blazing into battle, what would he do in your opinion?
@rault114
@rault114 5 жыл бұрын
At that point, "Kylo Ren" didn't yet exist. He saw a vision of what Ben Solo may become, and decided murder was a better alternative than doing his best to keep him from it. I'm not saying Luke's character can't evolve. I just want the change, whatever change it is, to make some sort of sense. Opting for murder of a kid who MAY become evil is a rapid departure from the last time we saw Luke. Literally anything else would've been better than the comedic toss Rian thought was appropriate. I'm fairly certain I'm not the only person on the Internet who thought Luke was going to train Rey, or at least show some sort of recognition to the lightsaber he lost at the end of Empire. He could've even handed it back and told her "No, I can't be involved anymore." Come to think of it, how does Rey know what Luke looks like? Far as we're shown, she's never seen a picture of him. Prior to conveniently bumping into Han and Chewie, she thought the whole "Rebellion" thing was a myth/legend. I would've liked Luke puling a Yoda and pretending to not be Luke Skywalker at first. Actually, I wouldn't have had him on the island in the first place. I also wouldn't have opted to remove all of Han's character growth or make Leia the commander of a para-military group that didn't actually need to exist. Lastly, I wouldn't have made seemingly ALL the Republic core worlds exist in the same system without a discernible sun. However, that's on JJ, not Rian.

The Year is 2050. Go to movies, it's the weekly MCU movie. Disney logo on screen. It's phase 12 of the story. Movie starts, Tobey Maguire is in a wheelchair. A burglar comes into his house, steals his Funko Pops. Tobey says "it's peterin time" (this is a reference to the hit 2022 film morbius). Also says "that sounded better in my head." He puts on his mask, the crowd screams until my ears ring. He swings at the man as he's running away. A portal opens and captain Europe steps into the scene. Tobey accidentally swings into him He says "it's all good I have healthcare". Crowd cheers, captain Europe had his own TV show in 2048 and this is a reference to his prostate exam episode in season 6 where he makes the same joke. Tom Holland and Andrew Garfield come through the portal and point at each other, making the funny Spider-Man meme again. They all start jerking each other off as the camera zooms out, revealing the Death Star and the Star Wars theme briefly plays. Crowd cheers again before the screen cuts to black and Darth Vader's laugh plays. Post credit scene shows Thanos reappear, and he says, "I'm coming for you Redditors." Crowd cheers one last time, before news sources are saying this is one of the best movies of all time. Thank you Disney for saving the film industry.

First off, I’ll just say thank you for the incredibly in-depth review of this movie and the other movies from a series that were a huge part of my childhood. I was born in 1975 and don’t have any memories that don’t include seeing the world through a lens of (original trilogy) Star Wars-induced wonder, optimism, and creativity. It very much shaped my ideas of right and wrong, personal responsibility, bravery in the face of overwhelming odds, and self sacrifice in service to those you love and others in general. Obviously I’m not a hero who helped save the world, or you would have heard of me, but the way you view heroism in general can affect the way you approach smaller conflicts in life. What these later movies have done to damage that incredibly inspiring and beautiful story is shameful, and the screenwriters and movie executives should be embarrassed. I really appreciate the time, effort, research, focus, humor, and writing that you have put into not just this video, but all of the related videos in your analysis series. The quality speaks to your talent and dedication, and in my honest opinion, they stand head and shoulders above the other critiques I’ve seen. And there are some other very good reviews out there, so that is no small praise. One final compliment, since I’ll only leave this one comment as a blanket over the whole video series- I love that you use Battlefront II gameplay footage as the background. I own a single video game, and a single game console, and it’s a Sony PlayStation 2 with Star Wars: Battlefront II that my stepsons got me a couple of years ago for Father’s Day. They knew that it was the only video game that I ever really enjoyed, and played countless hours of in the years between 2005 and 2010. I had several spinal surgeries starting in 2002 until 2006, so I was confined to a recliner or bed for many months throughout recovery, and I played that game so much that I eventually beat it. I then didn’t pick it up again until their incredibly thoughtful gift. It was very cool to me that you mentioned it as “Battlefront II- the good one”- and it sparked me leaving this comment, as I’m rewatching this entire video series for the 3rd or 4th time. So- sorry for such a book-length comment, and thanks again for such a great set of videos.

An important difference to keep in mind for Yoda’s exile versus Luke’s is when and why Yoda made the decision. Yoda didn’t go into exile when the Jedi Order failed to stop Sidious. He went into exile after failing to kill Sidious. Yoda wasn’t sulking and waiting to die. He failed to stop the villain, realized he was out of his depth, and retreated so as to safeguard the knowledge and wisdom of the Order that he embodied. Plus, while in exile, he clearly achieved the clarity and insight needed to help revitalize the Order through anyone he might train. Him rejecting Luke was simply him recognizing that the student he was sent was not mentally mature enough to avoid making things worse. Besides, he had Leia as a backup. It was risky to reject one twin without really knowing the second was a better option, but it isn’t a contradiction within the context of the Originals (though I agree that him promising to train Luke and Leia when they were infants is a plot hole within the context of the Prequels). Luke, by contrast, was just waiting to die. There was nothing gained by him sitting around for years, and he never intended for anything to be gained. He wasn’t even hiding from a threat in the hopes of training new Jedi. He was just sulking. This doesn’t make the Prequel-introduced plot hole any less silly. However, we can’t use Yoda’s actions in the previous trilogies as evidence to support Luke’s in the Sequels. The situations and motivations are simply not the same.

They destroyed, mangled, twisted, and literally killed his beloved character, and they killed the spirit of his story. They hurt Mark in every conceivable way, and they don't feel the slightest regret over it. That's the quality of the goddamn script. Rian Johnson wrote draft 1 of his script before The Force Awakens had finished filming. He went so far as to ask JJ Abrams to change Luke's scene at the end, from him meditating with rocks floating around him to standing and staring wistfully at the horizon instead. JJ Abrams then provided Rian Johnson with a rough draft of potential episodes 8 and 9. Rian Johnson threw those in the trash, finalized his script (changing almost nothing from the first draft) and immediately went about insulting those that disagreed with him and antagonizing the fans before filming of episode 8 even began. It reads like fan fiction, went through precisely as many redrafts, and has the same surrounding level of professionalism. Or at least, I _would_ say that if I haven't read fan fictions that are Hugo Award-level quality and effort. And I mean that sincerely, I have a list of fan stories from Witcher, Star Wars, Star Trek, Dragon Age, Mass Effect, and a half dozen other fandoms that are better written than half the shit coming out today.

I would had no problem with the way she acted if her first scene with Poe she said something like "Look... I don't know you, but Leia just demoted you, so I don't know if I can trust you. I have a plan, and it's on a need to know basis. Follow my orders, and you'll know when you need to know." and of course... don't say "I like him" to Leia after you had budded heads with him the whole time, and he mutinied. That would make sense. And the same story arc with pow not trusting her would be the same... but she wouldn't seem unreasonable... and the "twist" that it was Poe who's on the wrong would be stronger. But besides making the whole Poe is arrogant and wrong. Why did they make that? I get it if you want to reach some place... to show that your protagonist gets things wrong. It can be a teachable moment. But in TLJ, Poe literally mutinied, and after the fact people were like "Poe is great, isn't?" WHAT?

Awesomezeke769 HD not necessarily. She’s used as a poorly thought out plot device to drive up tension, and in turn, be used as a scapegoat for the hyperjump shit she pulled off. It was poor director choice to use her as an antagonistic character in the first half to be “oh she’s doing great” when Leia wakes up. Because the chase scene is boring. There’s little to no antagonistic presence to drive tension and make the stakes feel real, so they try hamfisting in someone that can fill that antagonistic role for that boring segment of the movie. Could her character design be pandering? Sure? But that’s not her primary purpose of existing. Just a shitty move from Ryan.

It's post-modernist Star Wars. It's not a conspiracy and it's not even subtle. They subverted everything, provided no grand narrative, destroyed character archetypes and taught no lessons. It fit that pernicious 'philosophy' to a tee. Why did they do it? Because they believe that all those things I mentioned are evil, terrible things that ought be gotten rid of. Luke embodied those things which is why they tossed him away like an old, smelly sock -like older fans of the films. This film was an intentional middle-finger.

You know Joe Dante and myself and a few other guys I know are in the same position. _*_They’re not hiring people who have opinions. If you think postmodernism rejects those things because "they are evil" then you don't get postmodernism. That said, I think it's more the postmodern aesthetic that hurts this film (and TFA) more than the ethic. There is just too much self-referencing (even in an irreverent way). It isn't a story; it is a pastiche of characters, plot points, and visuals that only have meaning as a callback to (or smarmy rejection of) the OT. You could do a really interesting SW story with postmodern ethics or themes (as someone else pointed out, KOTOR did just that). It seems like you can't really do it in a postmodern aesthetic though, because it becomes either soulless or parody (or both).

The first proper sequel we got to the OT was Timothy Zahn's Heir to the Empire book trilogy, set about 5 years after ROTJ. And imo one of the best things about it was how it showed both what the New Republic would be like then and what the Empire remnants would be doing to try to get back in power. We hear about systems/planets that support either side, and we see both sides working to get more planets to their side. Things like that don't seem to have been a priority at any part of the process in making these new films.

I am a disabled Vet, who was almost a teen when I stood in line to see the first Star Wars, "A New Hope" in 1977. I don't get much money on disability, so I was saving up for months to see TLJ. When the Force Awakens came out, it left me with more questions about what happened to my hero, Luke Skywalker. I had to see this The Last Jedi... to see my hero. There is so much more I could say about this... but I will shorten it. When the movie ended... I was literally, "Numb." Those who loved the movie got up and walked away happy. Those of us left in the theater... staring at the blank screen with jaws open, were trying hard to process what we just witnessed. Feeling numb, I didn't want to speak to any one... I wanted time to digest, to process what had just happened. I woke up the next day, and I woke up angry! I was angry about this messed up movie, and what Disney and the idiot director did to my religion... the Jedi, my hero Luke Skywalker! It was then, that I started looking on KZfaq for comments from others. I had seen that many people had put out spoiler warnings... so I didn't go online much before going to see The Last Jedi. Now... I was trying to find if others felt the way I did. But then, the attacks happened. I tried to tell my side of why I hated this movie... I was attacked by young teens and young adults for not liking it. I was told I wasn't a true fan from people who were born during the time of prequels. So I decided to say online, one more thing. "I hated what Disney and Rian Johnson had done to my Star Wars, killing off all the EU and other canon." "This new Star Wars, wasn't MY Star Wars any more and I had no interests in seeing what Disney does with it." "So I would do the only thing I had the power to do!" "I posted that I wouldn't spend any more money, or watch any more of the Disney version of Star Wars from here on out." After months of listening to many people speak on why they hated The Last Jedi... many I agreed with. I found your post and I loved it! You have spoken exactly on every reason why I found the new Disney version to be a whole different story than the Star Wars I grew up with. I will forever be connected to the original Star Wars. Thank you for doing this.

We all realize Luke’s time has to end, but not stuck on an island, disenchanted and away from his sister. This is an argument for another timeline, another possibility. We only found out about the train-wreck that is the Disney Lucasfilm Story Group being so badly managed that they didn't get consulted for Episodes 7 or 8, or 9 before production began or get final script approval to ensure any continuity in the story. The upside is, JJ can bring Luke back, destroy the Falcon, murder chewbacca, whatever. he can make Carrie Fisher a posthumous rapist, it's all moot.

@Toliman.
@Toliman. 6 жыл бұрын
I think the "wake up from nightmare" is a great opening to 9, because of the time-skip that has to happen to explain Leia's death, and to expand the evil empire and 'let the resistance die', and from the ashes, turn into victory nonsense that Rian set up. or whatever that was to fizzle out and die. You then get to tell the story of Rey again properly, and you can bring back whomever you want to get the parts from 8 and 9 that JJ's mystery box had left over. The best part about speculating for 9 is that EVERYONE DIES is the best outcome for fans. or EVERYONE LIVES, it's all a shit sandwich of options each worse than the last. The larger problem for 9, is the idea that the skywalkers are the main thread. There's almost no palatable redemption arc for Kylo at this point. Ruining Luke as a Pedophile Priest is the bridge you can't un-cross, because nearly all of the characters are destroyed in the process. You can't even really tell the same story from the point that Luke is dead, Snoke is dead and the First Order is a mercenary group of ideologues. You almost have to SHOCK HORROR, tell a fucking story again. The advantage of being able to murder everyone from the original trilogy, is that you can now fuck the fans and destroy everything in one Pyrrhic "fuck everyone" suicidal moment to kill off all of the characters to "subvert expectations." I probably would pay money to see Ridley's corpse on fire in the ruinous husk of the Shattered and lifeless Millennium Falcon at this point, the Porgs chewing on Chewbacca's dismembered corpse. SUBVERT EXPECTATIONS. or the Rey/Chewbacca babies ... whatever. The movies are dead weight at this point. Or, and this is most likely what will happen, is that JJ replays all the story beats from Return of the Jedi, Snoke is alive and has built another starkiller base planet again. Luke is alive, and helping Rey with her NOT_A_JEDI Academy of students, and Rose, is now a secret princess, who is captured and frozen in carbonite for reasons by the first order, yada yada yada.

Michael Guy while i ironically agree that it would be cool to see JJ straight up ignore ep 8 and so his own thing, i belive that would be unwise because it would fracture the whole saga further. With proper writing, episode 9 can smartly retcon or explain away the issues with ep 8 while still telling an intriguing and original story, with better character development from the scraps left behind by ep 8. Let luke stay dead, otherwise it would undermine the stakes of the story. Bring some flaws and vulnerability to rey. Give her a proper back story that explains why she is so powerful in the force. Give the audience a reason to understand why rey might be struggling with the dark side. Remove some of the slapstick antics from fin's character. This is a guy that was a highly trained storm trooper. Lets see that stormtrooper training and insight in action. He can still have a sense of humor, but a trained killer like fin should have a sense of quiet intesnity about him. Not to mention his struggles with the war crimes of his past. Poe could also show some vulnerability. Id be interested in a more fleshed out back story for him. Fin and poe's bromance was a fan favorite. Expand on the friendship in the next film. Right now kylo ren has been depicted as a whiny brat, not fit to be emperor. Give him some wisdom and show that he js developing as a formiddable dark side weilder. And please, let him beat rey for once to show that all hus training is not worthless. Rose's relationship with fin felt forced. If this is to continue, she needs to be empathetic with the audience in her actions, not just her back story.

About the bombers being "like WW2 bombers"... what? The B17 and B24 were incredibly durable and many managed to flay all the way back from bombing runs with half the crew maimed or dead and a significant portion of the plane blown off. They wre also slow compared to fighters, but that means moving at 3/4 or 2/3 the speed, not crawling along like an inebriated snail. The B-29 was not slower than most fighters, and could fly so high it was practically unreachable. I have no idea what WW2 bomber Rian is trying to portray, but I doubt one anywhere near as horrifically ineffective as the ones In the film ever existed.
