The smelly smell that smells smelly: Stapelia gigantea I’ll be growing it in the shade outside for the warmer months and bringing it inside for the fall and winter. Cross fingers that it’ll bloom this fall and if it does, that baby will be living its smelly life while in bloom in the garage under a grow light. I’m using a succulent gritty mix by @solsoils - use code PlantsKrystal10 for 10 percent off. What do you think? Would you be daring enough to have this one in your collection?

My grandma has a plant called "Königskerze" (I think it's called "mullein" in english) in her garden. It is very tall and has a long bloom, that stands straight up. My grandma says, if the flower bends east, it's gonna be sunny, if it bends west, it's gonna rain. You can also read the upcoming winter from the bloom, don't ask me how. And I kid you not, that thing is so accurate!

I remember buzz on Twitter a few years ago about lady who grew stapelia believing it was a cactus. Imagine what happened when the stapelia bloomed as she looked forward to gorgeous cactus flowers. She panicked at rotten smelled furry star, posted her plant, and finally learned what she was growing was an insect-pollinated flower which mimicked rotting flesh to fool flies and maggots😂

I showed my mom a picture of the flowers covered with the little blue green flies and told her that they’re attracted to the rotten scent. I have gotten ✨️obsessed✨️ with watching your channel! I live in Canada...but damn it if we were closer I know you'd be my bestie ❤ I absolutely adore how much you love your plants and have learned so much from you in a very short time already!!! Btw do you have any kalanchoe plants? My bf bought me one recently, which I then figured out was 3 plants stuffed into 1 pot 😖...so I repotted them and now they are all looking at me very sadly. Leaves are yellowing, although I have not watered it...but the soil is oddly moist 😅 I am very new to this so if you have any tips, I would love to save my cute kalanchoes 😊
@juniperjonestownАй бұрын
Fellow Canadian who wants to be bff’s with Krystal here 😂😅🖤 I don’t have a Kalanchoe anymore but when I did, I found that it enjoyed when I let the soil go completely dry between watering, like BONE DRY, if you aren’t sure, wait another day. If the soil is wet, and the plants are droopy and “mushy” feeling, it could be overwatered/the soil is too compact, not enough airflow/root rot, BUT if the plant is droopy and “limp” or wrinkly, it might be underwatered/the plant isn’t pulling the water from the soil 😅 Best of luck to you from the west (“wet”) coast 🇨🇦 On a sidenote: since they were JUST re-potted, they might just be acclimating to their new homes-it always looks a lil worse before it looks better 🤞🏼☺️
@marialakshmi2330Ай бұрын
How much gritty mix you put in your potting mix depends on your climate, if it is dry like here you need less gritty mix, if you underwater you need less gritty mix, if they are in a clay pot you need less gritty mix 🪴 Did you water straight away after repotting? Unless they are dying of thirst I’d leave succulents to settle a few days before watering 💧👍🏼🙏🏼

Is it a little bit fuzzy??? I think I have this plant. I saw it in a nursery one day, no idea what it was, but it was so weird I had to have it so all I relay knew is that it’s some odd cactus. It’s not bloomed in the yearish that I’ve had it, so not 100% certain.
@banannerzАй бұрын
@@marialakshmi2330 actually I’ve done some more research on Stapelia since commenting this and they do apparently have distinctly velvety stems, so I’m now certain this is what I have (although uncertain on specific species). I have one of those! And the flies are definitely attracted to the blooms. They copulate in the bloom, lay their eggs and then you get a bunch of maggots wriggling in the center of the bloom. Don't worry, they don't survive. There's nothing to actually eat on the bloom. The plant gaslights the flies into thinking there is food so they do the dirty and lay their eggs. The whole process pollinates the plant, but is fruitless for the flies. Except they do get some lol
