Afrezza Inhaled Insulin: Follow These Steps to Get Insurance Coverage

Inhaled insulin - Afrezza manufactured by MannKind - is the only inhaled insulin on the market. You'd think doctors would jump on board to get their patients a non-injection form of insulin, but there is so much reluctance! This is largely because they don't understand it.
Afrezza received FDA approval in 2014, but it's still seen as the new kid on the block compared to injectable insulin. This means your health insurance company won't provide coverage easily for it.
You have to advocate for yourself to get this insulin! But you also have to follow critical steps in the prescription and insurance process to increase your chance of successfully getting coverage!

Great video!! I did get approved and I am praying Mannkind is successful and more people discover Afrezza! It’s a game changer for me- my avg BG went from 133 to 119 in 3 weeks!! Thanks for all you do Ginger- I’m a big fan!!

My endo refused to prescribe it to me because he confused its safety profile with the prior failed inhaled insulin from Pfizer. So I fired him and got a new Endo who would prescribe it. And my new Endo also sponsored the insurance formulary pre-authorization to get my insurance to cover it!

Health insurance companies should cover things like CGM, inhaled insulin, insulin pumps, anything that keeps you healthy to avoid being hospitalized and making you disabled and unable to work. 💉🏥

Keep spreading the good word. This could do well on Tiktok if not there already Might want to start out with the benefits over the usual suspects like the pump or regular insulin injections.

Also consider another Endocrinologist. Mine prescribes it no problem and loves the drug. I’m almost positive his patients don’t all use sterling. (Important to point out it’s not the “only” way. At least for Obamacare) Not diabetic I have adrenal insufficiency, but when I learned of Afrezza i was so impressed I bought stock. I had to ask my endo if he prescribed out of curiosity. His answer didn’t disappoint. The founder Al Mann was a remarkable man who was just a good human. He really needs his own Netflix doc bc he is incredible

Also rejection is never the end especially for insurance companies. Squeaky wheels get the oil. Be so annoying they want to lower your contact frequency or end the call. Refuse to take no for an answer and you usually get what you want

It costs a lot of money to get new drugs approved in each country. Mannkind, the makers of Afrezza, is a very small pharma company. They're working on getting it to the other countries!
