I also bought Alpiner 4, black dial on stainless steal bracelet. I paid only 1046 Eur. I think 30 % discount. I think it will last me. It is antimagnetic and anti shock. It is little bit heavy for me, because I am coming from Citizen quartz watch made from titanium, but I will use to it. I think it is nice watch for that money. For that price, I will not feel quilty if I will scratch it somewhere.

I agree - for the price, it's a respectable competitor even against some more expensive watches.

$1400 couldn't buy the BRACELET for a Rolex anymore. High-end Swiss brands now are generally in the $10,000+ range. But yeah as long as it's reliable and tells the time accurately, there's nothing wrong with whichever watch you choose.

you can get this watch for 600-800 dollars on ebay brand new but without the factory's warranty. This is a high quality Swiss watch not a Timex. 1000 dollars is actually in the low end of swiss automatics.

Rolex cost 7000+ Swiss Francs, 1400 is higher entry level not more 😅

It's not literally marketed as a dive watch, but it has dive watch features (uni-directional rotating bezel with lume-filled bezel marker, screw-down crown, screw-down case back, coin-edge bezel, large concentrations of luminescent fillings, etc.). This is a "sport watch" more or less. It's not like the Khaki at all - I've reviewed the Khaki King and had the Khaki Field - THOSE are field watches. No rotating bezel (or even bezel markers), it has an exhibition case-back, no large concentrations of lume, and a dial layout that concentrates on the exact time. My point is that the Alpiner 4 and the Hamilton Khaki watches are nothing alike, and this isn't a field watch. I know the Seastrong is their actual dive stuff, and I agree that most people don't dive anyway - my point in this video was that this IS a dive-STYLE sport watch, with features that would SUGGEST being good for some underwater use, but I don't recommend it.

Hi and thanks for your answer. Alpina is not as conventional as other brands and that is what i love about them. If you go to their website you will see that they have 3 categories "Land" "Sea" and "air" this watch is listed under "Land" basically their version of a field watch designed to climb mountains and explore the wilderness. I understand that some people may be confused by the rotating bezel and Lume but I can see a rotating bezel as a good way to keep hiking time or something else . even to try to read were north is. I appreciate your long answer but a simple trip to their website would clarify that nowhere in the Alpina lenguage or website they state this to be a diver's watch.Also Lume and rotating bezels are not exclusive to divers. So in fact.the Alpina 4 is Alpina's version of a Field watch.

You're not the first person to tell me that. This watch is odd. It might literally be some kind of factory mistake. I should contact Steve and tell him to hold on to this one - it might wind up being worth something being that it was let out with these unusual quirks that apparently most of these don't have.

Same here, exact same watch as reviewed. I have a black subtle sunburst dial and the hands are well lumed also. It’s a great piece for the money and a brand with some authentic Swiss watchmaking credibility.

What do you mean "why would you say the hour and minute hands don't have lume?" Did you see the lume shot on screen? Explain to me how I got the markers to glow but not the hands. THE HANDS IN THIS PARTICULAR WATCH THAT WAS DROPPED OFF FOR REVIEW HAD ZERO LUME.

Wow that's terrible! I'd contact Alpina and demand something. ..not sure what because you certainly don't need a replacement of the same soft bezel. Maybe there's an aftermarket bezel somewhere available for it made out of something more durable? Bezels are usually fairly easy to change.

I mean., it is not a g-shock. but it is a tool watch who cares if it gets a scratch or two.

@@ShouldITimeThis It's a field watch. but Alpina in general does not have good lume for some reason lol. the only one that i had that did from Alpina was the seastrong (not the heritage) 300.

I can answer this one: unidirectional rotating bezel with a lume marker at the point, screw-down case back, screw-down crown, and the overall aesthetic of most dive watches on the market (although nicer). It's a sport watch though, not necessarily a dive watch.

A dive watch is a type of tool watch. And correct, this isn't "built for diving" but neither are most sub-$1000 "dive watches" on the market. This is a dive-STYLE watch. Round dial w unidirectional bezel and lumed bezel marker, screw-down solid case back etc.

Alpina has dive watches(seastrong series) and the series alpiner 4 are sport/adventure watches meant to do everything well ( hence the sturdy build).. as long as the sun is out lol. I have the blue dial version, definitely quality, and in low light the watch catches so much light I can read it, it is very strange they dropped the ball on the lume, love the watch anyway.

@@joerichardson6107 My review was based on the brand new Alpina you saw me take out of the package on camera. This watch had a UNIdirectional rotating bezel with a lume marker at the point, screw-down crown and case-back, and the general aesthetic of (many) dive watches. I agree that it's more of a sport watch, but I wasn't wrong with my assessment based on THIS WATCH that I had in my hands.
