I first saw The Angels in 1975, Keystone Angels at the time, supporting AC/DC. It was a school excursion at the Whyalla Cinema, South Australia. It cost 0.60c with permission from our parents of course, I was 10.

The Brewster brothers, John & Rick, play rhythm and lead guitars respectively. They are up there with once fellow label mates AC/DC's Malcolm & Angus dual guitar attacks. The Angels were another pub crowd favourite and we fans would roll up in droves for another great night with the boys. Never ever saw a bad show. That's why they are legendary here. They supported The Kinks on a US tour, their first, and got thrown off the tour because the crowds were going off to The Angels and The Kinks couldn't compete. So get rid of the competition. Classic. Rick Brewster had his trademark lead guitar persona with the dark sunnies and rarely moved. One of the great guitarists. Polished and tight as with his brother and the rhythm section. The lead singer Doc Neeson is in heaven bringing the house down. GREAT BAND.

Yes, unfortunately they thought they could take on the world in a different manner, and didn't get as far as the should have. Ended up with dirty pool management, which included cold chisel, icehouse and metal as anything

I was there doing lighting for x men ...massive pa system was making explosion sound every few minutes crew were running everywhere looking for problem..after an hour or so l found the problem loading our equipment on to the stage l bumped lead heard explosion threw PA ..it was the lead ..( bad lead) .

I saw the Angels back in the late 80's and Doc (the lead vocalist) hurt his back and couldn't move, but rather than cancel the shows, he organised to get a dentist chair and did the show reclining in the dentist chair. He was an absolute legend.

I saw that too. It was at Broadmeadows Town Hall with Noiseworks supporting them. The crowd was fairly subdued due to the amount of 'smokes' being passed around the crowd, and at one stage Doc said in his 'Doc' voice, "I know you're out there, I can smell you..." And he was pelted with a lot of smokes lit and unlit thrown onto the stage, and the guys were going around stamping them out and throwing them back into the crowd, that got huge cheers. The cops standing around the mezzanine overlooking the crowd would have been high as kites and had a good piss up with the trailer load of alcohol they confiscated at the entrance. Ahh the good old days.... :)

Doc (RIP) was a legend of Aussie pub rock. Was also a qualified teacher who actually served with the Australian Defense Forse as a teacher (Chalky) and was awarded a medal many years after he left because of his dedication to the military - was doing lots of shows for troops deployed overseas

Doc Neeson held the South Australian high schools high jump record for many years. He was quite an athlete. p.s. this song is about the holocaust.

From Wikipedia on Dec Neeson (lead vocals) After completing secondary education, Neeson entered an Adelaide teachers college, "my first career option was to become a teacher, certainly never thought of having a career as a musician".[6] Before completing his course Neeson was conscripted for national service into the Australian army during the Vietnam War.[6] He served as an education corps sergeant in New Guinea for eighteen months in the late 1960s.[6][7] He subsequently attended Flinders University, completed degrees in film and drama, and intended to become a film director.[6]

Guys The Angels are Australian Pub Rock , They did a warm up gig in 1973 with a little band called AC/DC . Not long after that they released a song called Am I Ever Going To See Your Face Again. Not a lot of airplay back then , BUT that song has become a classic for other reasons, you will not go to any Angels concert with the crowd chanting the words. This song is nearly 50 years old & still gets the crowd going. PLEASE

Original members of The Angels majored in Drama at Uni in Adelaide. Rick Brewster on Lead Guitar majored in standing still like a statue, he got 1st Class Honors.

Australian pub rock! In the early 80's we could get into a gig for $5 and watch the Angels, Cold Chisel, Split Enz, Hoodoo Gurus, Aussie Crawl, the Mentals...I'm serious, pub sessions were the best.

Yeah! They were lucky AC/DC were Scottish. lol They were on fire when Bon was live. Seen Angels plenty, pub, stadium, festival, never failed to deliver a show.

They were originally managed by George Young, but got some bad advice elsewhere and elected to leave George Young’s Management…… they later admitted that it was a mistake. Had they stayed with George, they could’ve been up there with AC/DC in the international market.

RIP Doc Neeson (lead vocalist) This Angel are pure Aussie Rock, I was lucky enough to see them live many times. Always put on an awesome show! They have a very long list of hits that you guys need to delve into, my favourite are The Dogs Are Talking and It's A Long Line. Great to see your reaction to one of our legendary bands!

Great band who started out as The Keystone Angels in Adelaide in the early 70's. I can remember vividly going to a school dance in 1973 where they played. Doc Neeson was a 6 foot 4 inch icon of Aussie Rock.

The best of 70s n 80s from Australia. The Angels are still Rockin, with their current lineup and still doing the same songs we love. I see them every chance i get. Doc Neeson was a legend, but Dave Gleeson of the Screaming Jets does a great job of singing for them nowdays. Us Aussies still Rock Hard to these guys! Another great Oz band from same era, and still going is Rose Tattoo. AC/DC is another Pub Rock band from the 70s here in Oz. Fantastic era! And Stevie Wright, and The Radiators, and so much great times.

Angels. Your'e in the golden age of Aussie pub rock, these guys were bigger than Texas. Live shows were incredible, studio songs are blistering rock 'n' roll at it's best. The lead guitarist, Rick Brewster, used to say he "stood dead still on stage, because you never knew where (singer) Doc Neeson was going, neither did Doc." Massive recommendations for "Take A Long Line," "Who Rings The Bell," "Coming Down."

Saw them many times in Melbourne in my youth - Festival Hall, the Music Bowl, Hallam Hotel, Manhattan Hotel, the Village Green - they were part of the heyday of Melbourne pub rock. I reckon you guys would REALLY enjoy 'Take a Long Line', 'Marseilles' and Dogs are Talking - but there are dozens of hits! I also think you'd enjoy 'Am I Ever Gonna See Your Face Again' (live - the crowd response is essential) and a personal favourite 'Mr Damage'. Thanks for reacting to this!

My hangouts as well, throw in the Dorset Gardens Hotel, the Corner hotel in Richmond and The Venue in St Kilda oh and the Prospect Hill Hotel in Kew. Brilliant time to be alive in Melbourne!! Saw Thin Lizzy at the Music Bowl 1978 when I was 17, epic!

Had the chance to see them perform as 'Angel City' twice at Bogarts in Cincinnati in support of 2 of their albums. Fantastic shows with Doc hurling himself off of the PA stack onto the stage.

That goes back to their early days. Rick used to jump around as much as Doc, he was told he looked silly and to cut it out. So he turned it into a trademark

These guys were using the same studio at Albert's Productions in Sydney during the 70's as AC/DC. They loved it when Accadacca had just left about half an hour after they'd pulled an all nighter in the studio, straight after a gig of course, ( to get that live feel!). A wall of cigarette smoke on entering, empty beer & Coke cans all over the shop! And, the valves of the amps were still hot 🔥 ! Made for a great recording session I reckon!

The drummer lived near my cousins and Tuesday was practice night at his place. I was one of the 100 + kids hanging in the street the night they learned this song. Always will love it.

Yeah the 1970 s Rose Tattoo album cover is almost the same as App for distruction an exact copy and nice boys song is a cover of Rose Tattoo original song, the gunners boys had a long relationship with Australia Slash has family here so does Duff and Axl came here as a kid !

My high school (Frankston High School, Melbourne Australia) used to have a "dance" at the school hall. It was known as "The Big Fish" (the school logo). I saw The Angels live there back in the "dark ages", when there were Sharpies and Surfies/ers. Saw AC/DC and many other fledgling Aussie bands there too. Saw John Farnham at the @Sovereign? Hotel as well. Ah, the memories. Am I ever going to see your face again????

The bass player is (at the time) Jim Hilbun (red shirt, white bass) , a really nice American guy, I met him when I was about 19 (a couple of years after this).. Possibly my fave Angels song.. (heavy one), "Love Takes Care" is my other fave.... (Jim plays sax) FIRST BAND I EVER SAW AT A BIG "GIG"! This era line-up.. when I was 16.. and now Im 50!

The Angels were by far my favorite Australian live act, i've lost count of how many times i attended gigs. I feel privileged to have befriended a few band members, including the late Bernard "Doc" Neeson. When it came to front-man, Doc's performances were legendary. He was on a totally higher level.

Yeah one of my top 3 best bands. Grew up with em as a teen and beyond. This concert is call ‘Angels live a Narrara’ (central coast of New South Wales). I rate this concert also top 3 of my favourites along with ‘Frampton Comes Alive’ (Peter Frampton). You guy’s do great post’s, thanks very much - yur great fun to watch. Regards from Sydney Oz 😉

Just a little background to the moment you pointed out at 6.01 of the video. The guitarist is Rick Brewster who in the early days used to jump around the stage like 'Doc' He was teased about that and decided he would instead stand like a statue. The bass player is Chris Baily, who is just trying to get John to break his persona.

I hope Bluey has more of The Angels lined up for you. IMO Doc Neeson was the best Rock and Roll front man ever. He wanted to get in to Theatre but became a singer in a rock band instead. His theatrics are there in all his performances and always gave it 110%

A legendary Australian Hard Rock band. The band financed the film shoot of their set at the Narrara music festival in 1983. One of my all time favourite concert recordings is by the Angels "Liveline".

One of the few true live legends. So many tracks were as good, if not better, live than on the studio album. Look at that energy, I was hoping the song would be one from Narrara showing Doc in is prime, his energy and still singing like he hasn't raised a sweat. Met the band several times, including once on the pretense of having someone from England fly over just to see them (we took her to the show but it might have been a little lie lol) - Live at Narrara was for many years Australia's highest selling music video - that includes the likes of pink floyd, queen etc. That whole early to mid 80's era of the Angels produced the best songs in my opinion.
