And this is still just scratching the surface because I see alot of complaining about him just turning to the dark side in episode 3. So I would like to add the following reasons: Without padme what would happen to the kids? He was thinking about leaving the jedi after the war. Palpatine was his friend. He had to spy in him. Windu did not trust anakin and he was never hiding it. He was the republic biggest hero but the counsel did not see him as their equal even though they told him he was the chosen one. Obi wan was on a different planet and could not help him. Yoda told him you had to just accept the death of the person he was afraid to lose. He had to go against the jedi code to obey the jedi. They only thing that they ever thought him and he saw them not being loyal to the code. Did I forget any?

Ever since i watched revenge of the prequels i've started to like and appreciate them even more. When people said there was too much CGI i found that argument weak , i like CGI, some scenes are just an orgasm to the eye. Now I've realized that not only is that argument bad, it's entirely pointless because Lucas used a lot of practical effects in the prequels.

@@valysheev You misunderstand the point of these videos. People are allowed to dislike the prequels, but these people have been completely unfair towards them and are fake critics. Half the time they don't know what they're talking about or their videos are "jar jar is annoying" "too much cgi" despite the prequels actually having amazing and revolutionary cgi, or midichlorians ruining the force, which isn't true. I see these videos as something prequel fans have always wanted, I just want people to see the good parts about the prequels and for people to actually respect Lucas as the series, creator, great storyteller, visionary and creative genius he is, or at the very least not treat him like such shit he leaves the franchise. I love these videos for what they do for the prequels and less that they shit on others for it. At least most of the time, cosmonaut is a complete fraud of a critic and I used to actually watch his shit, and not only that he's extremely toxic towards anyone who enjoys the prequels, so in this case he can fuck off.

Expecting everyone to respond to a 10 hour video essay is a bit much. Most of those essays tend to also take things out of context like you the person they are probably responding to did. MauLer for example used 1 entire part of his Dark souls 2 video demolishing Bombers dumb argument by showing the same out of context clip over and over again and using that clip to argue that the AI in Dark souls 2 is horrible.

Cosmo: these characters don’t have traits. Qui-Gon: uses the force outside of what a Jedi would. Is ok with gambling. Ok with mind tricking wato for a hyperdrive. Is sassy, compassionate. Never once tries to tell Anakin to get over his mom, something the counsel would want to. Feels fine to threatening watto. admires obi-wan. Respects the gungan chieftain. Obi-Wan: Is eager to jump into action and does the most acrobatics(front flips, jumping kicks etc) has reservations about Qui-Gon’s ways but respects him regardless. Considered Anakin and JarJar pathetic life forms, thus thinking. Is apprently Qui-Gon’s go to pilot, and is good with technology(fixing the underwater speeder, trying to fix the hyperdrive, knows they could be traced if they answer the Naboo senator). Padme: Cleary cares for her people and would rather die than leaving them alone. Willing to spearhead violent operations, not caring about her life, despite being a queen. Is compassionate to all people(statement about slavery on tattoine). Is very pragmatic about Qui-Gon’s gambling. Willing to do the dirty work(or clean up R2) becomes depressed when she can’t do anything for her people. Anakin: Fearful. Good with tech. Being born on a sad planet sets up his dislike for sand. Is very trusting( of a 6ft man he just met). Sees the good in life. Promises to come back for his mother. Showcases tons of love for his mother, Padme and an endearing respect for Qui-Gon. Apologizes to Qui-Gon for being not good enough to pass the Jedi counsel(if I remember correctly) illustrating his self doubt. Being a good pilot and speed racer(???? Speeder racer?) Darth Maul: Cold, machine like. Silent. A hunter. Motivated by revenge. Prideful. Not all traits need to be told to the audience via clunky expositional dialogue like in Shane Black’s predator. Showing is much more valuable than telling in Cinema, regarding you watch the movie to try and understand rather than watching it to just harp and make fun of.

@slicksilver2961
@slicksilver2961 4 жыл бұрын
Genesis Vira Trait definition: “distinguishing quality or characteristic, typically one belonging to a person or character”. All of the things I pointed out (admittedly excluding some of Qui-Gon feelings) are characteristics and qualities that belong to their characters, that give us understanding to the type of characters they are outside the scope of “cool goodguy” or “bad badguy”. My fiction writing professor back in freshman year of college told us that “traits are what inform the audience what to expect from a character”. Now, you pointed out that most of the stuff I wrote are just what characters did during the story, (maybe I’m guessing Padme spearheading the attack is a good example of this) and that’s a 100% totally fair point you made and you’re right! I should’ve clarified character’s actions define them, but it can be called back to their traits. Padme was willing to spearhead the strike, and it’s believable because earlier in the movie her qualities(traits) were set up as a monarch who’d much rather die for her people than leave them. In short: Traits payoff character’s actions. Especially in decently written material.

Arius Lamperouge I didn’t really get into star wars expanded universe stuff until the clone war tv show and comics. Outside of that, I’m not well versed in pre and post Phantom Menace expanded universe stuff. I was, like 4 or 5 when it came out. Even as an adult now, I read one legends novel years ago about Obi-Wan and Qui-Gon. But even in that, it was keen to point out what we know in the Phantom Menace: Obi-Wan is good with technology and very eager when it comes to confrontations and Qui-Gon is wise and unorthodox. Points that clearly came across in the movie. I’m not sure what the new Disney cannon says about them tho, but I didn’t need a comic book or novel to help me with what I knew about the characters as they came across in the movies(and I really miss that when it comes to the sequels).

No name The prequels aren't the OT though, and they take place in a different era where there are entirely different institutions and organisations at play and different things at stake. Palpatine uses the political apparatus to ascend in powers until he can wipe out the Jedi order and take control of the galactic powers. To present that story you can't just use good guys vs bad guys in space battles. I have no idea why people expect it to be similar to the OT. It's clearly meant to be a different set up that still has similar resonances in some regards to some of the characters or plot/visual elements. But the prequels will be more complicated because of those institutions and organisations, explaining how they work, their weak points, how they were manipulated, and how they failed.

EXACTLY. The so called sequels are not the original creator's. George Lucas gave us Star Wars and a story. Furthermore, given that the "sequels" don't even continue the story or form a cohesive part of the saga, then by very definition they aren't even sequels. The only "true" story is what the CREATOR intended. And frankly the prequels were awesome, they told a story and form one wholesome saga. I wish we had seen George's sequels as well.

@@darrellcovello7917 I am inclined to agree. What I'm saying is that IF there are going to be sequels, then the ONLY sequels that should be told, are what the creator wanted. It sounds like George had a wider idea with ideas he seeded in throughout the saga in the prequels and originals. I would be willing to see that, but otherwise I also think the saga is a complete and wonderful story of 6 episodes. I loved Rogue One though. But yes, Episode 1 to 6 are the way to go. Cherry pick out of context examples to further his point and act as if that wins him the argument 3: at the 11-ish minute mark, cosmonaut says that the characters don't talk about how they feel. While it is done in the film, contrary to his point, most of the character interactions are done with subtlety, how they say stuff and the facial expressions, instead of them blandly stating "this is how I feel" (it's done a couple of time, but only to convey information between characters, instead of to the audience *cough, the last jedi, cough*). "There's an even bigger danger: if the viceroy escapes your highness, he will return with another droid army." Captain Panaka is the most pessamistic character in the film. Since the beginning, he always had something negative to say or to add. He was the one who said the droid army was larger and stronger than they thought. Side note, I've always interpreted this scene to be a reference to the story in the book of Joshua where the Hebrews send spies into the Canaan, and the spies bring back the news that the land is filled with giants and there is no hope of taking the promised land.

One thing about insults: The people who are complaining about the usage of insults don't understand that just because you use an insult, that doesn't automatically make it an ad hominem. If the perceived insult in question actually has some logical basis, then it's actually part of the argument and not a logical fallacy. Ex: This manager is an idiot, he doesn't pay his workers well and doesn't listen to feed-back from the higher-ups. This statement has an insult, yes. But there is a form of logical reasoning behind the insult so it's not an example of the logical fallacy known as ad hominem.

Late as I am, and obviously I'm no Van Gogh or Leonardo but that guy missed the point of such a shot. In art most times you have a focus or starting point to view an image. The obvious focus of this image is the Clone Army stretching out into the vast distance. Adding nosense in the background like CGI lizards(EP 4) and random ships would take away from the focus of this image. Also the way the shot of the army is positioned at attention at an angle is reminiscent of army propaganda posters. The blank space more often than not filled with words to motivate those to either support or join the cause and fight against the Separatists and save the blahblahblah. Seeing as they are in war times that would be the ideal time to promote this type of stuff.

Strange that I never noticed that it's front and center amoung other things. Phantom Menace holds up better than attack of the clones to me even though the second half of attack of clones is some of my favorite moments in starwars. However I rewatched AotC as well now a couple days after I left this comment and it holds up better as well, love story isn't well implemented and Anakin's dialogue is awful but that is one part of the story. The second half is my favorite in all of star wars. I love the battle of Geonosis. In Episode 2 was it than: Assassinate her because she wants to prevent a War which goes against my plans -> assassination failed Okay lets try to salvage the situation by sending her off planet for the duration of the senate talk about raising an Army under the pretense of having to keep her save -> Dooku has to deal with Gunray only wanting to Join the Separates cause if Padme is killed in revenge for the events of episode 1 -> after the Jedi and Clones saw him in Geonosis was he now forced to join the separatist because the other option would have been prison rendering his earlier want for revenge a moot point. @@shuyuwang6122 The Clone Wars series actually fucked up a lot of the Star Wars canon. For example, both Yoda and Obi-Wan were basically TOLD what would happen in Revenge of the Sith and yet they somehow didn't see Order 66 coming. We also have Dooku battling Anakin and Obi-Wan every other week, yet Anakin claims that his powers had doubled since the last time they met, strongly implying that the last time they duelled was on Geonosis rather than a few weeks ago. Grievous fought Obi-Wan countless times, yet still felt the need to tell him that he was trained by Dooku in Revenge of the Sith. And of course, Darth Maul died in The Phantom Menace and the fact that he's one of the best characters in the Clone Wars doesn't alter the fact that he should never have been there in the first place. Thankfully, Ahsoka didn't fuck up too much Star Wars lore. I also liked the chips in the clones heads and Fives' death is, for me, the most heartbreaking moment in the entire Star Wars canon. I think Obi Wan means that it shouldn't be easy to break a commitment because if it is easy for you then you're not a good Jedi. to the protagonist debate: I think you do not necersairly even need a single (or a group of) protagonists in a story and it is very much possible to also shift the protagonist within a movie. Take "Psycho" by Alfred Hitchcock for example where our supposed protagonost, the woman, (SPOILER) is suddenly killed midway through the movie in that infamous shower scene. Now you could argue, well Norman Bates was the protagonist all along but he is also only shown midway through the movie sooo.... does it actually matter that much?

Regarding Obi Wan in phantom menace you can see his character traits being that he uphold the jedi code with conviction while also being snarky and sassy guy phrases like "You were right master negotiation were short." and "Why do i sense that we picked up another pathetic life form."

What this boils down to is prequel haters hate the story and thrive on the action. The prequels fleshed out the universe and gave meaning to the OT. Thats why they like disney garbage, all action and no substance. I grew up on the OT and love the prequels. They are different, but no less important. I dont understand fans that love one and hate the other since they compliment each other so well. But thats what i can think of, they just love the action and superficial stuff and likely have little to no interest in the EU beyond the action games

HERETIC GAMER447 you can like the eu all you want I don’t care. But the main reason why many people consider themselves fans of the films isn’t necessarily the lore, they just like good films. Many care about the characters in Star Wars because they’re well presented as interesting and likeable in film and or television. How many people care about Darth Vader because of legend comic #78, his core arc is in the original six Star Wars films and to a further extent the clone wars show. Any extra eu is just supplementary material, and whilst they expand the saga they’re not essential to the saga storyline

HERETIC GAMER447 empire strikes back for example is fun, engaging, existing, intense and it has great character development and dynamics. I don’t need to know backstory extensive backstory every background alien or planet to fully experience that film or to consider myself a fan of it

1) You're intro is epic every time I see it! 2) Throughout this video, I've noticed a pattern that prequel-haters seem to be unable to understand subtle things. 3) Cosmonaut's arguments were so insipid I am genuinely considering making my own response video.

I appreciate the clarification about the intro. The problem is it's difficult to tell that it's just an intro which I'm sure has confused a number of people, myself included. A number of times I thought I was watching an upload that I've already seen. Also I absolutely hate having to repeatedly listen to that asinine "Lucas r*ped my childhood" song. A simple text overlay notification at the beginning of your videos indicating where the intro ends & the commentary begins would be helpful.

How surface-level and subjective can Cosmonaut get? "Oh my God, this movie so boring it put into a coma" Just because you didn't find enjoyment you want senseless action and flashy CGI doesn't equate to an objective argument. You're just saying things without anything to back it up, you're worse than a politician or propagandist.

What the fuck is hard to understand in politic scenes?! Episode I Senate is corrupted and checking evrything according to Republic law takes too much Time. So Trade Federation can't be stopped. Episode II Separatists want to leave the Republic, because they feel overused by the Senate. Again it would take too much Time This is so damn Simple, and I understood it WHEN I WAS 7 But as un-wise Man once said: "Hey, maybe it's just me"

Some people can’t understand that you can like the prequels and see it’s faults. In my opinion if the base story is good and the world building and lore is good I’m set for the most part. I find it fascinating and I really couldn’t care if someone thought there was too much CG.

13:06 I recently showed the Star Wars prequels to my 14 year old niece for the first time. The first Star Wars movies she's ever seen. She let out an audible ''No!'' when Qui-Gon got stabbed, and was still pissed off about his death by Revenge of The Sith. Oh yeah, she also got bored while watching the OT with me. We're on Empire Strikes Back, and she doesn't seem interested in finishing it.

As a prequel fan, I will admit that AOTC is my least favorite of the PT, and I do believe the bad somewhat outweighs the good for this particular movie (don't fret, I still give it a 5/10). But literally EVERY SINGLE CRITICISM I have heard towards the film is superficial and pointed in the wrong direction. Cosmonaut is no exception. All the points he makes are directed at the GOOD parts of the movie instead of the actually bad parts, and the thing about AOTC is that when it's good, *_it's good._* Ignoring that for the sake of pushing the hate train is awful critiquing and essay writing.

The sub scene is equivalent to beeing in space. These guys are not only trainerd Jedi's, they live in a world were focus and calmness are needed to survive. We still don't know how we send people to mars, not only because we can't overcome the technical stuff. It's also because we know that we freak out in that environment, risking the whole mission.
