The rotation speed controllers are one directional. Stress comes in one side and the speed is controlled on the other side. If you try to merge two systems the way you did, stress maker -> speed controller -> speed controller -> stress maker, the speed controller does not know which direction to control the speed and breaks.

This is the answer. It doesn't matter whether you put power into the large cogwheel or the side axis, it's just important to keep the power generation on one side.

Thanks for the explanation. I had the same issue as Mango in another modpack (Stoneblock 3, I think) when I was trying to use the rotation speed controller to connect a bunch of electric motors to my network. I also had a controller between my steam boilers and the network, so it was the same issue you said: stress maker -> speed controller -> network

Just to verify if he had merged the power then gone to stress induced contraptions it would have worked. Basically you can’t have 2 speed controllers feeding into the same system.

The biggest tip i can give to a new Create user is by far that gearboxes are you best friend ! They can invert the rotation the shafts. They are so usefull and you should basically always have them when you build anything. Also you can use Belts to transfer rotation instead of using lots of shafts. It will only cost 1 belt instead of 16 shafts

I know these episodes are prerecorded, but just in case and for everyone in the comments: The reason combining the rotation sources didn’t work is because the rotation speed controllers don’t know which side to pull the original speed, and which side to control the speed. You have to make sure you keep the rotation generation on one side of the controller, if it’s on both, the controller doesn’t know which to pull from and breaks.
@wChris_

Rotation speed controllers can actually be driven from either side, but not both at once! This is why you couldnt combine both of the systems.

A clean way to use the big and little cogs is to utilize right clicking a casing on them. If you do you can have 2 cogs "share" a shaft but be spinning opposite directions. So you could chain many sets of cogs in a 2×2× # of cogs sets area

@squorsh
@squorsh Жыл бұрын
I haven't gotten there to try it myself but apparently there's a faster method where you pick up the blocks you want to quarry and move them into a solid block before trying to disassemble the machine. It seems a lot harder to make, especially if you want the items collected because it's not automatic, but it's honestly nothing compared to the vanilla slime block based machines ilmango made in the past. It depends on if he wants a simple but slower solution or wants to design a complex one to finish faster I suppose

The rotation speed controller changes the speed of the gear on top, you can prevent it popping off by taking the power OUT through that gear not in.

as far as I know the default stress input for the rotation speed controller is the shaft on the bottom, tbh I didn't even know it was possible to input through the cog at all, I suspect what is happening is that as soon as you connect a source of stress to the default input of the speed controller on the bamboo farm windmill bearing it starts trying to spin the cog and thus the windmill at 128rpm, treating it as a normal bearing instead of a source, hence the massive sudden increase in stress demand

Hey mango, One thing I would like to point out that I think you would find very useful, when working with Create items, the middle of your screen changes from the + icon to an arrow. This arrow points in the direction that the item in your hand will be placed in. For example, when looking at the Sail at 14:37 there is the arrow pointing to the left with the shadow of how the sail will be placed. If you were to have just right clicked to place it then it would have placed to the left with the sail in the same direction like the shadow block shows. Rather that using that, you tried to click on the side of the block like vanilla Minecraft which caused you to fall. It's one of the best features of create because it allows you to place cogs correctly without trying to move around weirdly, sails without having them placed in the wrong orientation, and shafts by just walking parallel to them looking at them.

I think the issue is the rotation speed controller only likes to have stress units generated on one side, almost like a worm gear.
@Clem2TheClemening
@Clem2TheClemening Жыл бұрын
The problem is probably caused by having stress producers on both sides of the RSC. Basically, it decides which side is set to the speed by which side the SUs are coming from. Having it on both sides confuses it.
@Clem2TheClemening
@Clem2TheClemening Жыл бұрын
If stress producers are attached to the shaft, the cogwheel's speed will be controlled. If stress producers are attached to the cogwheel, the shaft's speed will be controller. You gotta have the stress units going only one way, or use cogs. Also gearboxes reverse rotation, they do the same thing as 4 large cogwheels connected together but compressed into a single block.

yeah i think what the problem is, that the rotation speed controller can not merge two power sources. What I often do in Create is, I have one place where I generate all my su then run a line to whatever machine I want to use and set up a rotation speed controller that only powers machines and creates some sort of subnetwork. Maybe that habit comes from playing AE2 a lot x)
@Zach010ROBLOX
@Zach010ROBLOX Жыл бұрын
Other commenters have already explained why it was broken. If you want to use speed controllers in your create builds, I most often see people but them as close to their machines as possible, that way they can get exact values at their contrpations, and keep the power line from getting ugly (broken)
@VulpeculaJoy
@VulpeculaJoy Жыл бұрын
I know these are pre-recorded, but you will want a slow net for your power generation and multiple fast nets for power consumption and it will work. Just don't link two speed controllers. It's better to decentralize power anyway. If you want to power a simple farm, give it a separate waterwheel or windmill. For a factory you build a boiler like methodzz did and run a shaft along the ceiling to supply everything. Just look at photos of factories from the 19th century to gather inspiration.

In regards to when things pop off, it's either in 1 of 3 scenarios. 1.) You try to connect two systems with opposite rotations. 2.) You run your RPM over 256 on any device. 3.) You connect 2 systems with varying RPMs. (This happens rarely.) My suspicion is that #2 and #3 was your issue. Basically, The Speed controller was trying to force the system to run at 256 but you were trying to run the rest at 128. When you did, it meant that the speed controller jumped over the 256 mark because of the differing input speeds.

When I dug a hole 30 blocks down from my base to get to water for the water wheels, I put a few 3x3 supports in the walls. I'm also adapting your habit of placing a wooden block below the support 👍

You can't connect two Inputs together through an output. ALL Inputs for stress have to be merged together FIRST, THEN a SINGLE output from them can go off and power everything. You need two shaft lines going to the bamboo windmill, one directly from the other windmills to connect the two inputs, then output to the charcoal machine and a second shaft line from the end of the charcoal machine back to your base to power everything inside the base...

Maybe Create mod is directional? At 19:25 when the network was working it read that you had 19,712su as expected (Home: 17,664, Farm: 2048). The shafts from home and the farm were spinning "outward" from each other from where you were standing. At 19:50, the shafts were spinning "inward" when it stopped working. And when you were looking at the network power a few seconds later, it only read that you had 2048su. It wasn't registering the other 17,664su from home. If the mod is directional then it may work again if you change the rotation direction to how it was when it was working.
