Voss electronics with the PBN speakers were among my favorites at The Home Entertainment Show 2022.
However, one record had a bunch of ticks and pops as well as skipping from damage in the past. I offered to bring the record to the Kirmuss booth and have the record "restored".
This footage shows the before/after and the process involved.

This is why I own my Kirmuss record-cleaning system. It's not cheap, but it works well!

FYI at the Holm Audio event in Chicago last November 2022 where we restored a very very well used high mileage Burmeister record that belongs to the Acoustic Signature sales rep. . The results in Chicago totally brought the record to life with total silence.

Thanks for video. Our process removes the release agent, Shure called it a pressing oil. We call it restoration. Not all pops are caused by issues at the pressing plant and dust in the environment landing on a hot record just out of the press. Many issues reside with use of cleaning agents that are not pvc compatible. One should never use a cleaning solution that does not have an ingredients list. Ingredients listed on the bottle should be compatible with the pvc chemical compatability chart.no ingredients list, do not buy. If records are played more than once a day that have seen an alcohol or ether based cleaner used the plaricizer affected does not see the grooves fully return to their rest position causing some noise. A needle drop also in the record sees one hear a pop in the same spot. With release agent removed we will see more signal over noise floor. Pressing issues and noises will be lower than signal so restoration brings the emotion and passion of the artist to life. Surface scratches that cause ticks can be remedied by the removal of the release agent by our process allowing the needle to pick up hidden detail in the groove and not on the surface. Thanks for this unexpected impromptu shoot out.

I have that demonstration recording on CD. There are no pops or clicks and I don't need to spend thousands of £/$ to buy a cleaning gizmo. Still a fascinating video demo of the system and there is marked improvement in the record playback.

I also heard the pops and the clicks! It was slightly better after the (3) cleaning! Was that a sitar in the track at 30:05 on the Burmeister record?
@AudiophileJunkie
@AudiophileJunkie Жыл бұрын
Yes it was the Burmester record. Unfortunately, it was very damaged, but glad you were able to notice some of the tics and pop removal. There was also a skipping issue that was hard to pick up in the initial recording when the volume was low and just starting. That went away too.

whats the brand of this german ultrasonic cleaner he speaks about?

It is Audio Desk that Kirmuss is talking about. He seems to have a real bee in his bonnet about them. It is also his assumption that the record was cleaned before. We do not know for certain. He even says that new LPs have crud on them that produces this white gunk, even though the new LP has never been near any type of cleaner.

What German ultrasonic cleaner was Dr. Kirmuss referring to when he said it had damaged the edge of the record?
@GiancarloBenzina

There’s not many, not hard to figure out, especially as it’s well known to have such impact over multiple generations of that device. It’s been stubbornly sold and badly serviced while unreliable.

Visit our KZfaq channel. Do learn more about record cleaning solutions, and ultrasonic machines. This 45 minute video recorded in front of Korean journalists and audiophiles covers the issues raised in the 70's by the Shure Brothers, and how our record restoration process works when compared to current surface cleaning and what I call shining up the record for sale methods. With record groove restoration we do not care what the surface of the record looks like. Shiny or not learn why with ionizing the record to see its charge to be opposite to that of water where we see 1.3 to upwards of 4 dB gain over floor realized. Also slides show how one can easily test a cavitation machine using specialized aluminum foil on a 12" ring to see if an advertised ultrasonic is in fact using cavitation or is simply an ultrasonic bubbler. Contrary to many processes, due to the Tribelectric table of charges, records should come out virtually dry and not need any air or vacuum drying. The latter coats the records hiding many times the dirt and dust that was cemented into the pressing oil as the record cooled at the somewhat dirty pressing plant. After many plays, this film is removed and the pops reappear. Records bought at Goodwill stores, fleamarkets, garage and Estate sales are great. Most likely first or second pressings with original artwork. Once grooves are restored and a cartridge and tone arm is set up using Wally Tools kit, even more wow factor out of your 2 channel system with no upgraded equipment! Also on our channel for those wanting to see any of our dealers or us live at many of the shows but cannot and where you can bring in a record from home for restoration where we do a pre and post audion, we have a 10 part live and unscripted record restoration session. Used for training, this shows record restoration in action on a prized record owned by Mr. Damino Lee of Damino Technologies in Seoul. It was processed before with a vacuum system. You will see the residues that were air dried onto the record.

Have you heard of OCD Mikey he was on a rant a few days ago about Vinyl and Preamps and everyone who wants to hear analog should buy an Otari tape Deck, that in no way can compete with United Home audio or Sonorus Audio decks their website doesn’t work. Strange

I have to call BS on the 'rough edge tells you it's been cleaned by an AudioDesk machine' line of reasoning. That's seriously jumping to conclusions. I've had numerous records over the years that I guarantee have never seen an AudioDesk machine with sharp, chewed up, untrimmed edges. These are brand new records never before opened. The quality control in the pressing plants has gone way down in the last 20 years. It's just that. While I appreciate Kirmuss' system, the grandiosity of his claims and the P.T. Barnum quality of his pitch is a real turn off. I wish he'd dial it back a bit on the sweeping conclusions.

In the version of AD machine, the record sits in on a piece of brass. With a before and after test with Mr. Fremer in 2019 we discovered this.

Yes, culpable is that continuously sold bad product out of germany, that makes such ridiculous jumping to conclusions so plausible, while utterly false as you rightfully expressed. Re Doctor wish-wash, especially his attitudes put me off the path of taking that product into consideration. It’ll likely work, I’m just not “buying” it. It’s like a bad american B movie about a car wax agent on the road and the product looks the same, mechanically, not only optically. I haven’t made my choices, yet, but it won’t be either of the two. There are better products to come, especially now that we’re beyond microns, but at nano level in the industry of playback, while the cutting and pressing is still at multi-microns Level. I can understand the satirical side of all of this, that digital audio fans might find in this. LOL.

If by his definition the first playback is "really bad". Given all that work and expense this system requires I'd expect it to improve beyond bad. You can see he's a little flustered and making excuses soon as that 2nd playback starts. It improves things for sure but there's a tipping point of expense vs results and this device goes way beyond it. Throwing £1800 plus solution / distilled water costs at records that are past saving is borderline delusional. There's some post purchase rationalisation going on with many.
