Steve, some of the best drone flying and filming I have ever seen. Outstanding job! Thanks so much to bringing Bering Hill alive for us Adak Marine veterans!

Spent a year there in the early 70's. Good to see the buildings still standing.

At the 2 second mark that's my house in the bottom left. The duplex on the right. My dad worked at NSGA from 90-92. Officer's Hill. My brother and I ran all around that whole area. Always going to the theater, the arcade, the pool, and ice cream shop. The building at 3:14 was the toy store and arts and crafts place. Bought a lot of Ninja Turtles there. I have some wild stories too.

I remember when that chapel opened, it was an impressive place for Adak. Use to stand shore patrol on the hill, had to walk the halls/tunnels and do security checks for 4-8 hours. Also had a second job at the Bering theatre and the Yakatat Athletic complex/auto hobby shop. Busy place at one time, creepy to see so run down and empty. 🍺😕

You do a great job, that drone technology gets you some good shots. I bet you are real careful and patient waiting for a calm day. Thanks for your effort and time posting these, a lot of us spent time there and Adak was our life, our community. Busy place for me and my wife, 4 years flew by.

My father was stationed there back in the early 60's for a year. I remember well the Bering Building, the movie theatre, the hobby shop and the pool. I learned to swim in that pool and fish at Lake Andrews. The video brought back some really fond memories.

Nice walk down amnesia lane...Sept 76 - Feb 78. The tunnel under the street was cool.

The tunnel to get to the chow hall was great when the weather was crappy. Adak is certainly the birthplace of the winds... and rain! 1985-1986

Great shots! Love it! Aside from broken windows, at that height and distance its easy to remember the buildings as they were.

How about a walk through of the AIMD hangar, shops on ground floor and offices topside, squadron hangar, Birchwood Barracks, BOQ (old and new wings & Officers Club, the room with the fire place) and the old admin building.

Probably not… most is absolutely destroyed (especially the officers club. I’ve done some of that before and it REALLY upsets people, and I firmly believe our memories matter. If I can come up with a decent one I’ll do it.

In the winter time while standing in the chow line , the rug rats would keep us entertained by being blown down the sidewalk while going into the rec center to watch a Saturday matinee locate the old horse stables , would be interested to find whether there are still boots nailed above the door to the tack house , we had a wood burning stove , and we would cook on it. One of the boots is mine. The others belong to Ricky Don Tucker , also known as "Tex " one other boot belongs to Willy , never knew his first name , and another belonged to someone that was there , and gone before I got there , I left an old phonograph there.

It blows my mind the government can establish all these buildings- loads of $, then abandon. Can anyone enter these old buildings? I know the hunting/ fishing, remote lifestyle is abundant, but I do wish there could be some kind of company/ resource that could bring people & finances to the island. On another note, Steve, perhaps a Adak documentary of Navel personal/ families that occupied that were stationed there. I wish I remembered more but I was quite young when we were there.
@AdakPaPa Жыл бұрын
They didn’t abandon them, they gave them to The Aleut corporation. Completely functioning. No maintenance, a very bad recycling program, weather destruction and vandalism. Very sad… but the island itself is still magical!

The gov. Really needs to open it back up , with everything that is going on with Russia , they could very well use Adak as a stepping off place , and the residents would be in danger , I would rather spend my tax money on defending our country than helping someone else fight theirs at a cost of 100's of 000,000 of dollars.

Navy just built the new barracks in 90. So sad to see it like this.
