My dad was a CPO/HMC, we lived there in 71/72 in the Kuluck housing, i was a kid, first and second grade, many great memories from there!

We were there july 70 to june 72. Dad was part of the helicopter pilots. School put on "TheSound of Music" in the spring of 72. Lived on Officer's Hill and when we first got there the hospital was still on the hill along with the swimming pool and tge theater. My sister was born there. Whatever happened to the totem pole? Have never forgotten it! Thanks for the memories!

Thanks for the video. Brought back a lot of memories. I was stationed there with the Navy from 93 to 94. Love to make to trip to go back one day.

Dad was a fire chief and he worked at Fire Station #1. Upper amulet housing next to BOQ, middle and lower amulet housing below captains Hill. We used to slide down captains Hill behind the Kerry's house/earthquake lab. My jaw dropped when I watched "pirates Gold" because we played where they found the unexploded Japanese bomb!! We were there 68-72. After Adak we moved to Kodiak. Curtis and Doris Summers& Curtson & Carrie.

What a miracle it is to have access to modern technology. It is cold and raining outside in the UK but thanks to Steven's video I can transport my mind and imagination to Alaska! I have a large world map on my wall and I look at it everyday. I am constantly in awe of the scale of that part of the world. Love and blessings to all. Where are you all in the world?

I was stationed around Naval Station Adak from May 1971 till June 1972. I was a Navy Seabee construction electrician. I worked out of Bering Hill maintenance shop located under the galley. I also drove Station Bus while on duty.

Dale Roble About the only building I recognized was the WWII Chapel and one shot of the barracks and chow hall across from the new, when I was there, Bering Building, I was a BU CN and worked out of PW when I was there in 1957. For off work time I managed the wood working hobby shop that in the Bering Building. The second time I was on Adak was in 1959 and I was with NMCB 10. We lived in the barracks from WWII which were located along side of what was then the main runway for the airport. I know that the barracks was tore down in about 1970 because a billfold I had stolen from me was found and returned when the barracks were being torn down. I enjoyed both tours on Adak. The wind and almost daily earthquakes were taken as normal after a couple winds and quakes. One of the memorable things was the thick leather straps that were added to most vehicles to help keep the doors from being sprung because of the wind. Even saw one door that the strap was cut from the wind and the door was indeed sprung. We had an island holiday when the temp got to 53 F. Sorry to see the island all but deserted now in 2023.

Well done Steven. My brother, who was out there over the summer, pointed me to your videos. We were there from 74 - 77. Graduated from BRHS in 76. Were so fortunate to be able to live in so many places growing up. San Miguel, Scotland, Puerto Rico and others, finally to Adak. Best of the bunch!

thank you so much! we were stationed there l964 Dec -June 1966...I taught 3rd grade for half a year and then the following year. We had show and tell as I knew they had their story to tell. A dentist who was stationed there later told of how the new school came on barges....I agree....we were not sure what we were going to experience...and grateful for new housing so I could go with my husband.We square danced, attended church and had a prayer group and did our share of boon docking! thank you,thankyou!

I lived at NSGA Adak for two years - 1982 - 1984 - Company I, Marine Support Bn. - 2621 ("R" Branch ditty chaser). Thanks for posting, it is indeed an emotional to see what's become of the island.

Got a kick out of seeing the old USCG Loran Station. I was stationed there in 1966-67. Nice to know the walls are still standing. I always wanted to get back there, but never did. I was able to visit Attu in June 2000, which was an amazing experience. Almost impossible to visit Attu these days.

Thanks for the tour. I was (RM) stationed at NAVFAC in 1971. The Forrest has really grown, duck hunting in clam lagoon, fishing in Lake Andrews, going on crab runs to finger Bay. fixing tires at the Gas station. Playing Softball, Setting pins up at the Bowling Alley, jury riggings the black Mercury with wire etc...

Great tour and guide down memory lane. I remember grumbling when I got orders there, but it turned out to be one of my best tours. I think the Navy will regret not maintaining a presence there. Thank you. 🍺🇺🇸

I was there in the Navy in 1964 for 1 year. This was my 1st duty out of Supply School. I was 18 and the drinking age was 21, not a lot of fun! Some of my buddies and I had a Quonset hut and a 49 Mercury that got passed on to the next people coming in when we let. There were a lot of earthquakes there, after while you got used to them so living in Southern California later didn't bother me when they had earthquakes there.

Love your passion even more than I have enjoyed this video. You have captured the feeling we had as we explored the island in the mid 80's with our young daughter and her dog. Thank you! BTW, we used to spell it Zeto Point (not Zito).
