Tim Esterdahl reviews the 2022 Nissan Rogue Platinum and immediately likes something about it more than even the new Nissan Frontier and Titan. That's saying a ton for a truck guy like Tim. But his praise doesn't stop there, as you'll quickly find when watching this video. Tim likes almost everything about this Crossover, but there is one thing, one very important thing, that he wishes was even better. Watch to find out!

I have the 22 Rogue SV trim and I drive conservatively so when gas was way over $4/gallon, I was grinning while getting nearly 35 mpg in STANDARD mode. I am willing to give up "wheel-spinning getaways" for really good gas mileage. My previous mid size SUV was getting 21 mpg. What a savings every week now. Comfy and quiet with my SV trim with 18 inch wheels.

I quite enjoy the 22’ Rogue we have! It drives nice, the new Cvt is the most responsive/traditional automatic feeling yet. Can’t beat 30-33 city & 36-41 highway in eco. 🤷🏻‍♂️

It’s not a CVT anymore I’m pretty sure. I wanna say it’s the 9 speed that the Pathfinder and Frontier has. Never mind it does still have a CVT. But I haven’t heard it having any issues.

Daniel, do you hear a "whirr" sound from the engine maybe around 45-50 mph? It's annoying to me when I have my radio on real low while talking to a passenger. I've been told it is the turbo.

even tho the power is not up to par, I think Nissans goal was to improve gas mileage w/o going hybrid. Seems they have done a good job at that

That is a better annual cost for fuel than my Kicks. $200.00 lower. I didn't realize that before. But, in reality, I get 32 in the city and 42-44 on the expressway.

Reliability is my biggest worry with Nissans, especially their transmissions. I used to own a Nissan Maxima whose transmission blew up on a family trip. I’d be really interested in seeing if Nissan has been able to make the CVT more reliable. That seems to have been people’s biggest complaint about Rogues. Nissan has changed the CVT in the 2022 Rogue, to go along with the new engine. So far I am not reading a lot of complaints, but the 2022 has only been out for a few months.

@@GOLFADDICT65 Well, I am impressed. That’s quite a few Nissans with no clunkers. I used to love Nissans. Back in the 1990s, they were the best driver’s cars of the three major Japanese automakers. The Nissan Maxima was my attainable practical dream car. Great highway cruiser with sharp handling, which once saved my life when I had to basically do a Moose Test at highway speeds. But it was not reliable and multiple Nissan dealerships were totally useless. The final straw was when the transmission blew up about 700 miles from home on a family trip. Plus it was a gas guzzler. I was lucky if I beat 20 mpg. I traded it in for a Honda Accord which was absolutely reliable and consistently beat 30 mpg. That experience soured me on Nissans.

Nissan is a comeback so sorry the Maxima will soon be discontinued that's a darn beautiful car wish could had survived for few more years ... oh well. This Rogue is beautiful as well wish had 9 speed automatic on Platinum version overall a nice car. I currently have a 2015 Rogue SL a great car too love it so much still got OEM battery, after while we need new rotors and brakes. It runs and drives like new so imagine this newer Rogue is 10x better from my old one now interested in the Pathfinder, Nissan are very reliable cars not as reliable like Toyota, Mazda or Honda but got those crappy CVTS which got better added 1.3 L 3 cylinder engine to the new Rogue.

This SUV is DEFINITELY on my short list. I have a 2015 Lincoln MKC AWD 2.0 right now. And while i luv my SUV it's a gas guzzler even with a turbo 4. So i think this new Rogue with it's 3cyl turbo will be the best of both worlds. Give me the pep i need like my Lincoln gives me now but also save me MUCH more on gas. Plus, it's larger and i wanted too upgrade in size without having too shell out for a V6. My only concern is the Rogue's reliability issues and how this new engine will do long term. That's why i'm hesitant too buy now and wait until any recalls have been worked out over the next year or so. And then i'll give it a more serious look. And i would recommend other's do the same if your considering a purchase. Leasing is another story. Always wait until a new model's engine has worked through any recalls/other kinks before putting down $40+k on any vehicle.

Driven many CVT vehicles, 4 cylinder and 6 cylinder engines. I can’t stand them. They are ALWAYS a trade off, sacrificing performance for minor gains in fuel efficiency.

Tim, Glad you're around to keep the manufacturers honest, and us in the loop. One item which is a definite "no go" in my book is the absence of exhaust pipes. Honda still forgets to put exhaust pipes on some of its vehicles. Does Nissan also think we will forget it needs gasoline to run, and the rig has an ICE. The zero gravity seats will only take one so far. Can you imagine the new "Z" without a proper set of pipes on it?
