I just learned how to enjoy Molto Dolce. But this was not until after giving away 6 of my 7 tins....did I finally learn how to enjoy that sticky gooey mess of a blend. And this is after leaving the one open tin I have, open for days and it not drying at all. So, what I tried is: I spread one healthy pinch, evenly and thinly, over a paper towel (leave no mounds). I then run it through the microwave at 6 to 9 seconds at first. The required time will vary from one to another microwave...so start with little time and work up. Then try another 4 to 6 seconds if the first run doesn't dry it enough. You do not want to over-nuke it because it will ignite and produce a thick cloud and ember inside the m-wave (I know because I set the time for 20 seconds for my first pinch). Once it is perfectly dried and not over-cooked, it's turned from near black and sticky, to a medium brown and dry to the touch...yet still pliable. When done in the nuker, I slide it from the paper towel into a bowl. And then onto the next: pinch, spread, nuke, dump into a bowl...and repeat until it is all gone through this process. Then transfer it all from the bowl, back into its tin. What a difference drying makes to this blend. I was going to give it a one-half star review, on SmokingPipes. But after doing I did, and smoking that first and second bowl, I had to give it a four star rating instead. I would've given it a five star rating...if I wouldn't need to do all I did for it to be not just usable...but very enjoyable, tasty, and yummy. I highly recommend trying at least one bowl's worth done this way. This retains all of the flavoring added that a pressing of paper towels is likely to remove. Also, after nuking it, I smoked it in a Clay pipe. And with one light, it burned down to ash and the pipe cleaner I used came out nearly as clean as it was before using it.

I use the paper towel method and some weight to press out the excess casing. Also smells like some extra spices of some sort in there. You can also mix with some straight Virginia to your liking. Absolutely amazing blend.

❤❤❤❤❤ well, I ordered specifically for this review and, being in Canada, paid heavy duty on it, but worth every penny. When I smoked my first bowl, I was amazed at how light the smoke is, with so much taste. Used a corncob, but mine was not goopy at all. I’ve smoked about 5 bowls now and never had a problem lighting it. I pack and false light just like other tobaccoes and it stays perfectly lit for me. Just one false light. I love everything about this tobacco: delicate, tasteful and sublime. The honey and vanilla really make it unique and delicious. Exhaling through the nose gives added senses. This is hands down my favorite tobacco and I wish I had started with this blend when I started; it’s so easy to smoke with no tongue bite no matter how heavy you smoke it. Toppings don’t burn off and I enjoy every sip down to the bottom of the bowl. For some reason, really no work for me, just easy going and full enjoyment. Love this blend, top choice for me. (Mind you, this is my first tin. If I end up getting more when I visit the States, I might find a goopy mess, but not the tin that I got)

All Stars for me!, Definitely one of my favorites, I am very much into the aromatic and the sweet ones!, room note is amazing and the flavor is wild, I caught notes of what reminded me of cinnamon toast crunch on the back. It is a bit goopy but not bad, and it burned fairly easily without too much heat. I have several cans aging, I will always keep it on hand.

Hello again. I am very surprised that i disagreed with all your comments about this one. Mine was damp upon opening but no more so than a lot of others. I had no more trouble lighting my bowl than with many others. Mine stayed lit just fine, probably better than others. I loved the taste and aroma. As for the flavor, the name "molto dolce" means [i think] very sweet, so its just what it says it is. This wont topple my all time favorite Autumn Evening but it is very close to doing so. I loved it. Thanks for blend club and all your efforts!!!

My mother's family escaped fascist Italy in 1943 when she was 12 years old. The Italian tongue had to be spoken aroud my grandmother's sake. Molto dolce is a very common phrase which means "very sweet". It sounds like this tobacco company aptly named this blend. I think I'd like to pick up a tin just to satisfy my household with a good room note. Thank you greatly for this review!

🐸🐸🐸🐸. I like this one, especially in the fall. It's so heavily topped that it looks and feels greasy, it leaves wet marks on the top of my bowl when I pack one, it's not real easy to get lit or keep lit, and mine has been sitting in its tin for months. What can I say, I like em goopy. This blend does have a very distinct smell to it, sweet but with something sharp in there. I can't call it unique though, because Sutliff Creme Brulee is so similar that I wonder if its the same thing but available cheaper in bulk... Thanks for another great video Muttonchop Piper!

I could actually watch your video and understand everything you were talking about with the tobacco because I have already experienced it! For me, that made watching the video all that more enjoyable because I could understand where you were coming from when you talked about the blend! There are SO MANY blends out there and usually I have no experience with the majority of them. Not this one! I really enjoy this one - even if it seems a little more cumbersome to work with! Thanks for your enjoyable review (as always!) and Happy Piping to you as well!

👍👍👍. The flavor of this blend is definitely a good one for a new pipe smoker, but it makes you work for it that’s for sure. The attention needed to maintain a good smoke might be a little too much for someone just starting the hobby. Upon opening my tin, the aroma filled the entire room. Carmel, vanilla and honey, it’s all there working together. This is definitely the wettest tobacco blend I have ever encountered. Very difficult to get and stay lit. Once it is lit, the smoke is rich and smooth. Very delicious. It does like to get hot and no matter what pipe I use, I get a gurgle and have to sop up the moisture with a pipe cleaner more than once. Now it’s not all from the tobacco it’s partially from the way I smoke too so I do take that into consideration. The room note is very pleasant and this is a tobacco I could smoke inside if I wanted to. My wife enjoys the aroma of the smoke as well, which is a rarity. So yeah, I recommend this blend, but with a warning that the blend will make you work for it lol. Enjoy!

☕☕☕☕ This was my first time with Molto Dolce. I like a heavy flavor with an aromatic. I was pleasantly hit by the aroma as soon as I opened it. My first bowl was not a disappointment. This is something I will definitely order again. It was a little moist, but burned well.

Im not an aromatics guy, but there are a few that I like. Molto Dolce being one of them. What I usually do is dry it out a little before smoking, and then drop a few Nording keystones in the bowl. This cuts down on the moisture and ‘goopiness’ for me.

Buy the bulk version, Sutliff's Creme Brulee. Exact same blend. I buy 1 pound bags from JR Cigars cheap. Subscribe to their email notifications, once evey month or 2 they will email you a coupon for 25-30% off your order. It doesn't count toward a lot of the cigars but it usually does count toward most of the pipe tobacco. So a 30 dollar pound of tobacco I order for around 20 bucks. I've bought a couple pounds of Creme Brulee so far. What I have gotten so far it does come WET in my experience. But as wet as it is you just need to dry it out for a while, it will still do the snap crackle pop when you put fire to it but when you get it going it smokes better than you would think for how goopy it is. Dry it out and stuff that in your pipe and smoke it. It really is a sweet treat.

🔥🔥🔥 Upon opening the tin I was reminded of Nutty Irishman. The goopy stickiness was a turn off. But I'm willing to try anything once. I do like the flavor and taste of the tobacco. Reminds me of a cross of Autumn Evening and Nutty Irishman. Hard to get lit. But once going I was able to maintain it. Goopy tobacco aside. I'd definitely keep a tin around. Decent tobacco.

🍮🍮🍮🍮 I have found that drying out the entire tin of Molto Dolce on a large paper towel with a small fan on low speed helped quite a bit. For me it seems like this one needs to be smoked at a lower, dryer humidity than most other tobaccos. (I also didn’t remove any toppings) I’m enjoying a bowl currently that I previously dried out and haven’t had to deal with relights but it’s slow one because it can easily overheat. The honey, vanilla and caramel are worth the trouble. It’s a great dessert smoke.

When I started a few months ago I bought a few aromatics and thought that I would enjoy them but now I have them just sitting there and I don’t think age will change anything. Perhaps when it gets colder I might enjoy a couple of them occasionally but I will use an old cob when I do. I respect that many enjoy them and some smoke them exclusively. Taste is subjective. Once I discovered English and the virginia periques i was off to the races! I love your videos and watch every single one all the way through because you sir are a compelling man and KZfaq would be a very worse place without you. Keep ‘em coming!!

🌻🌻🌻I don’t hate it, but I wouldn’t crave it, either. If I felt like an aromatic, this is one I’d probably consider. It seemed really wet and the topping was thick, but it smoked easily and burned through without any relights.

You have probably covered this issue in the past … the difference between ‘casing’ and ‘topping.’ I’ve found the explanation by Jeremy Reeves to be helpful - he is the head blender for Cornell and Diehl. From his perspective, casing is a more subtle approach, topping more overt. The words are often used the same. Some people like tobacco and want a flavoring that enhances the tobacco’s natural taste. Other people don’t like the tobacco and want the tobacco taste to be erased and to just have the flavoring. Reminds of of my always-issue re cruising with my wife - she sees the cruise ship as a floating hotel that goes to interesting ports. I like the experience of being on the ship and often don’t care to go off the ship to see the ports.

I agree, I just use the word "casing because new pipe smokers get confused when you word topping, they think it's like an ice cream topping.

⭐⭐✨ 2.5 - I won’t try another bowl until it gets some dry time. Tough to light and keep going at the moisture level from a fresh tin. I found my normal cadence was too slow and was frequently relighting. I got into a tightrope walk between bowl warmth and stoking. The flavors were strong but not overwhelming during that time and my wife commented on the pleasant room note. I thought about trying a second bowl today but decided it wasn’t worth the effort. Will retry after it dries some. Smoked in a Falcon which simplied the goo removal 😊.

New to your channel, listened to some older episodes, appreciate your style and easy way of ‘being with us.’ This is fun - the hobby but also feeling like I am with you in the video. All that said, my personal experience is that once we get some drying time on a blend, the tin smell (or rub in fingers smell) OFTEN does not translate into the smoking. When I read reviews the reviewers are OFTEN shifting their tin or loose tobacco smelling into the review of the smoking. Lots of aromatics, like Molto Dolce, do a side shift from the smell into the smoke, and people can be disappointed or unsure.

🥴🥴 the goop factor alone gives this blend a 🥴 I attempted to dry this out for five days on paper on my desk in my apartment with temperatures in the high 90’s to low 100’s . Any other tobacco under these circumstances would be bone dry after only being exposed to those temperatures for 24hrs. It was to much work to enjoy. With constant relighting, dottle, and burning to hot. I tried to give it three bowls but that was it for me . I gave it a second emoji only because I found it to be a excellent blending component. I blended the remainder of the Molto Dolce with around 8oz of my Frankenstein blend ( it’s what I call all the remnants of my meh tobacco that I throw into a large mason Jar) and to my surprise it was pretty good. To me Molto Dolce tin and room note reminds me of Cotton candy not the blue raspberry but the plain vanilla. To all you home blenders give it a try you too might be pleasantly surprised.

🌲🌲 good flavor, way too wet for me, i understand it'sthe heavy casing not actual moisture but it reacts all the same. I could not get it to dry out at all even after days of letting it sit out in the hot garage. The casing is so heavy it crackles while lighting it. I do have to say though, once you get it going it stayed lite. I probably wouldn't pick this one up again, maybe if I lived in a more dry state. Flavors were definitely as advertised, great room and tin notes.

Can’t you end up relighting too much? End up with a burnt/ashy taste and lose the great flavor of the tobacco? Thanks for the informative content as always my good man! Hope you’re feeling better and God’s blessings

Well, yes, but if i find that I am relighting to much, I know I have not packed my pipe correctly, so I remove the burnt tobacco, empty the bowl, mix the tobacco that came out of the bowl with fresh tobacco, and reload, that usually takes care of the problem.

👍 Only one thumbs up for me. This blend represents all the things I do not like in a tobacco blend. Sticky, wet, and over flavored. Almost no tobacco flavor--just the toppings. And god forbid you smoke it in anything other than a cob because it is thick, goopy, and leaves behind a coating/ghost that will linger in the pipe for a week. No thank you for the Sutliff aromatics for me.

🇺🇸 Smells great but that’s it. Just not worth the effort. Gooey, hard to light, ghosting, and tongue bite.

🤮One oj the worst. Had mine sit out for a week, yes a whole week, and it still wasn't dry enough. This joke is also a complete waste of money because it's so heavy from the casing. Meaning it has noticeably less in the tin from other tobaccos.

I agree that the flavor and room note are great, but it's difficult to work with and pretty gloopy. The room note on initial light reminds me of campfire roasted marshmallows and the flavor is a nice vanilla caramel with a hint of baking spice like cinnamon and perhaps cardamom or a touch of clove.

out of five. Mine was very wet. Left it spread out on paper towels for about two hours, and was still sticky. After two rounds in the microwave for 15 seconds and letting it air again for an hour I was able to get it going much easier. It has a wonderful sweet taste and aroma, but took a lot of work

🧋🧋🧋 Aptly named Molto Dulce for this over the top Lucretia Borgia of aromatic tobaccos. The vanilla caramel honey aroma of the tinned product and room note is a delight- but this mixture is just over the top coated in propylene glycol casing agent and is very sticky. The tobacco looks and smells great like a fine Louis Vuitton handbag, but for all the promise of the aroma and effort packing it so you can maintain good draw and keep it lit, the smoking reward is just weak vanilla caramel and mostly black cavendish. Still it is quite different and has its place on the shelf. Definitely worth experiencing.
