Love the patterning videos! I would say to keep doing them and each time using 3 new types of shells! But another great video man! And the same shells with modified video would be great!k think after seeing the 3 side by side I would probably say for my preferance I would go with the federal. And my go to shells are Remington hyper sonic steel

I’ve been shooting the Fiocchi this season, works great for me. I picked a case for $90 at my local sport shop so figured it was worth a try, does just as good as the black clouds I was shooting.

I started shooting fiocchi last year in my remington versamax, in a 3" 4 shot, and really like what it does! Patterned high on my firearm on paper with a mod choke so i adjusted my shot placement a smidge and havent looked back. I am actually quite impressed with how tight the winchester stayed on your paper... like you said, good and bad, good for those that can accurately shoot but bad for those that can't hit a clay!

I know this would be more work but I’d like to see: 1) A 40 yard shot distance 2) With at least 3 shots each brand on new targets each time 3) On exactly a 30” target circle 4) If possible from a rest for consistency. Reason for all this is: 1) To get a comparable pattern percentage based on manufacturers testing. 2) To get an average. 3) See #1 4) Consistency to remove possible shooter movement. Obviously, this is for the viewer because you don’t need to pattern with the amount of birds you’ve brought down lol

Your realistic an thats what counts. especially your take on the 3 1/2 12g shell if i go 3 1/2 i go to my ten gauge due to the over bore and it patterns way better.

Yeah great video Bobby. I like patterning the shotguns. Lets see the Modified. Like to see at 40 yards also. To me 30 & 40 yards is where I like to pattern. I shoot a lot of different shells. The Remington nitro -steel #2 pattern real well in my Beretta a300 outlander as well as my Mossberg 835. I'm interested in trying the Winchester drylok. Heard good things about them, pattern tight at 40 yards.

@@nickb8618 That is the truth. I started off with blindside not knowing anything and they only birds that I knocked out of the sky were headshots or a shattered wing, nothing to the vitals. I finally gave up using it the day 3 times I shot at birds, knocked off feathers and had them keep on flying. It is obnoxious and unethical.

Ive had good luck with the federal Speed shok but opt for the 11/4 oz load. 1 1/8 gets you another 100 fps but 1 1/4 still gets you 1450fps advertised and 154 pellets, the 1 1/8 is roughly 15-20 less pellets so a less dense pattern. Take a look at Monarch from academy @$8.99 for a box of 3" shells it is a good value and a hammer too. One more thing to note is that federal seals their waterfowl loads, both premium and budget lines, havent seen sealed shells from any others yet even on premium shells

Love the vid Bobby! I think you should do the same w/ the Mod choke to see how much difference between the two chokes. I don't know where you are in your season, but maybe you could do a in field vid to see how the 3 loads perform. I have always been a Winchester or Federal guy myself, they just seem to shoot very well out of my guns. Currently I shoot a 1st gen. Benelli SBE. Winchester Blind Side 3" #2's

I did this a few weeks ago with my shotgun at 30 yards. I used a mid range cremator choke tube. Four of us shot different gun & choke configurations but hands down the best across the board was winchester drylok magnums. 3" 1400 fps 2 shot. The worst out of the 6 brands we tried was 3" rio 2 shot. It was terrible

I used to use kent fasteel, now I need boxes and boxes I use fiocchi. But I'm like you I'm not tied to a brand, I don't have good patterns with super x out of my gun with my 2"over extended choke. They get weird after about 15 yards and unpredictable. Rio is another shell I have good luck with and they're affordable.

I shoot a Browning A5 and Maxus both are improved modified chokes and I shoot well with Hevi-Shot BB and Federal Red Boxes (premium) BB

That super X is hard to beat for the price man, I shoot an improved modified and shot a goose at 60 yards this year with 3" 3 shot and counted 17 holes on one breast. They pattern super tight in my gun!!!

I have the same shotgun set as you have. I kept going with the more expensive shell with so so results. I starting using the Walmart special and man what a difference. All I can say is let the bodies hit the floor. Damn those cheap shells in a higher end gun works great

Yo yo yooooooooooo! Superb bud! Please try no4s with light choke! At same ranges. You have to be right on target at these ranges with full choke and no2s. That’s why skeet targets are shot with open chokes. Pellet energy will still remain sufficient at 30 yards Best video on patterns I’ve seen, not too technical and well presented! More please!

I just went broke down and bought a box of the new black cloud #2s and #3s I was able to pattern the #3s and was very happy with the consistency. Been shooting monarch all season but decided to try something new. Maybe compare some "premium loads" to some of the lower cost loads.

Hey Bobby, Awesome video. It sure looks to me that the Winchester had the best grouping but saying that it also means you have to be a better shot than with the Federal and FIochi patterns that are obviously wider which in my opinion would give you a wider kill ratio and are more forgiving to the novice or the poorer shot. Keep up the great videos.

Hey! I know you love your Franchi affinity 3, but I picked up a gently used Remington V3 walnut 12 gauge Thursday. I was down to either this gun or the Franchi. I am surprised at how little it recoils, but that is due to the gas system. It recoils less than my 20 gauge with 7/8 oz loads and will throw the shells around 10 feet. Also very smooth and quick, just a decent amount heavier than the Franchi.

Hey Bobby, love the channel! The BEST pattern is by far the Federal, I manage a Gun/Outdoors store here in Nebraska, and by FAR my customers and guys who shoot competitively like to have a consistent pattern! The Federal shells showed a consistency even at the two different distances.Numbers of pellets, spread over the ENTIRE pattern, KILLS BIRDS! PLUS, I've seen the crappy uneven size and finish of Winchester's Super X pellets, and i would NOT shoot it EVER! Estate and a few others are similarly priced, and I would shoot them over Win Super X EVERY TIME! NOT a Brand fan either, but out of the 3, Federal by far.

I’m not sure if you look at comments from older videos but this was a great!! I shoot the Winchesters. If I can make a suggestion is if you do a new video could you please do it where you shoot 3 times and what ever pattern best after 3 shots use that information as a comparison. Just a thought.

Bobby , Not wanting to bore anybody but if you really want a really cool lesson in shotgun loads (AKA fowling gun). Look up black powder shotgun load basics. Before you had removable chokes you had to adjust your load to powder ratio to make a wider or a tighter pattern. Rule of thumb was 1 oz of powder to 1 oz of shot. More powder less shot was a wider spread due to power behind the load . Less powder to more shot made a closer pattern . So you adjusted you ratio to the size game you were hunting. I hope i explained this right . Anyway check it out for any shotgun hunter it is well worth it.

The Field and Stream shells are great shells. If you look on the bottom of the box you'll see they are actually made by Fiocchi

Look into Rio Royal Blue Steel MGN #2. I had shot the Winchester Walmart specials but gave the Rio's a try and I feel that they completely outperformed the Winchesters in the field. Crazy knockdown power and they don't break the bank!

The Winchester is heavier thus it shoots slower. I prefer those 1 1/4 oz 2 and 3s. I shoot rios and hevi steel when it’s on sale. Awesome video bob! I think those federals are looking dang good

Is one shot sufficient to draw a conclusion? Maybe 3 or 5? Also, I like a target larger than the desired pattern- it helps detect outlyers (total bb's - target impact counts).

my 2 cents different guns like some ammo more than others and would recommend shooting from a bench rest to try to take as much of you out of the mix. Really like that you try to keep improving your equipment and relaying that to the other hunters keep it up !

You always have to consider every choke and shot size does pattern differently, so it takes some time to put different rounds through your barrel and see the results first hand. Personally I quit the 2 shot and only shoot 4 shot federal now out of a Carlson cremator mid range

I’m a bid federal shooter. I shoot some rio blue steel at times but mostly federal with the cremator LR extended choke. Their patterns are more consistent with both my Benelli SBE3 and my stoeger 3500. I also prefer federal buck shot patterning.

I use a stoeger m2000 and a mid range Carlson cremator choke tube for 4 years now and Winchester 2 shot steel my killing ratio went up to 90 percent haven’t had a cripple yet

winchester super x in my brand new sx4 is the absolute best pattern i have ever seen. i have not tried hevi metal 2 shot yet though. im definitely going to try it, but im not expecting great results

I think the Winchester patterned best. I shoot hevi steel #2 3" with modified choke. Then I stick the full choke in for diver ducks, same shells.

Just a suggestion, take a foot ruler mark a cross + then you can have a closer idea how the pattern holds to the center and within the 12 inch radius.

Here in the UK I use gamebore clear pigeon 30 gram no 6 and for duck I use gamebore super steel 32 grams no5

I’ve found federal blue box and Remington waterfowl loads work good in the ole benelii , sometimes I shoot the whinchester x but I’ve found they don’t pattern as good they still kill ducks and geese tho

My patterning tests out of my stoeger with kicks high flyer full choke have shown me a couple things. #1 full chokes don’t perform great on any shells shooting above 1400 FPS. This is why both Fiocchi and fed in this test were not shooting as well as the Winchester. The best shooting loads are the 3 inch 1 1/4 oz loads. Fiocchi, federal, and rio all performed equally well at 30 yds. Winchester shot tends to be very deformed and didn’t do well for me. #2 bb shot and larger doesn’t do well out of the full chokes. Better patterns from modified chokes. I have pictures of all of these tests, am happy to share if anyone’s interested. Love your content. 👍

I shoot a pump Action And i know some semi Autos are picky with ammo but i do a lot of Squirrel and Rabbit Hunting and I shoot Remington Express Long Range 2 3/4 #4 shot out of my 12 gauge pump and everything i have shot has dropped at ranges out to 40 yards with a Modified Choke. Anything that didnt drop was my fault. Some Squirrels I Have shot have been in the tops of trees through thick brush and still folded them. I have also used Fiocchi #6 shot and had no issues, However number 6 seems to slightly less effective for some reason on rabbit and Squirrel in any shell brand I Have used.

Been asking for a patterning video for quite a while. Glad to see. I'd love to see it a little further out. I've seen the super X have huge holes at 40. Love to see a 20yd vs 40 yd and maybe 3 shots in each set to give a good average. I'm shooting black cloud now but am looking to switch so definitely a great video. Any update on the trailer competition?

you say the winchester was the lighter load but i actually was the heaviest load 1 1/4 compared to 1 1/5 and 1 1/8. It also is 1400 fps. What were the other 2 ? Seems like the cheaper ammo is more efficient

Neat Did the was make it to the paper. Would it be possible to draw rings from the center to determine the density distribution which would give a measure of pellets on target Maybe help explain your kills and help with aimming. Some gun makers say 60/40 pellets up/down again knowing might change your aim on target It's a combination that could define your kills

Based on the patterns you showed and the distance the Federals with the more open pattern would be my choice. I didn't see any gaps in even the more open pattern where a bird could fly through. The reason the Federals are a more open pattern is probably because they are a higher velocity shell. The faster the velocity the faster it will open up typically. That's why faster shells are best used for close shooting My favorite shells are Hevi Metal. Not many cripples for me with them and they knock them stone dead. That's through my Browning Cynergy at least.

Dude i shoot a patternmaster codeblack goose which is the extended long rang with heavy shot heavy steel 3.5” #2. Heavy shot is fire bro you should try it if u have never shot and ill be suprised if u dont switch to it!

Mix up the chokes and different shells and is there really a difference between shells like hevi shot and black cloud vs like super x and say another cheaper one Kent fast steel

This is a great video. It is worth it to count the pellets to compare. I would suggest a video with patterns where you change chokes. For example, Federal Blue Box had a bigger area of shot pattern at 30yds. What happens if you put in a tighter choke on that distance. Is the even pattern distribution maintained with the Federal #2s or does it blow apart with too much choke?

Great video. Maybe cut each shell open and look at the quality of the shot. Those Super X usually look like a box of nerds. Estate 3” #2’s with a Kicks X-Full is my go to shell and choke combo for my Franchi Affinity.
