No kidding. I never understood why people would tell others of what is in their will. Other than letting your loved one/s know that they don't need to worry about finances too much if a sudden death occurred. But even then... I guess in cases where you truly feel like you know and trust your spouse 100% than it's cool to let them know whats in your will, so they knkw what to plan on. But when it comes to neices, nephews, in-laws, grandkids, and hell, even one's own children in some cases, never tell them if they are in your will or not. Even if they dont flat out murder you to get the money sooner, it causes turmoil and family fights so often, it's ridiculous. Even in my own family, ive seen some messed up things. My grandparents were talking about their will, and what goes to who when they pass, some years ago. And it got to the point that some of their grandkids we're fighting over who gets my grandma's good China and bell collection. That was like 16 years ago. My grandpa has passed since, but my grandma is still around. I can only imagine the chaos once she dies, too. My grandpa on the other side of the family had one of my cousins come and visit him a couple times a week for about 8 months. Then one day flat out asks my grandpa, "So, since I've been around so much, and help you out so much lately, were you planning on leaving me a bigger part of the inheritance in your will? I mean, I'm the only grandkid who has any time for you, so the others shouldnt get near as much as I should, right?" I mean, not verbatim. But that was what was said more or less. Really pissed my grandpa off. If anything, I think he is going to give that cousin less, if anything at all! Some people are so heartless and self centered. Actually, more than some. I think more people are than aren't, really anymore. Me? I'd give every penny of any inheritance, as well as every penny in my own possession, just to have another day or two with a loved one who passes.

My thoughts exactly. Though some people use it to manipulate family and playoff one against the other?

If there is a business that needs to be run or shall be continued, or if large parts of the heritage are bound in companies, bonds, real estate, valuables collections, or a foundation, setting up a secret will is a bad idea. Much more must then be organized than the portions, e.g. to attach conditions to inheritance that the respective heirs can actually fulfill.

On a side note I am astounded at how easily acid is obtained in third world countries (okay - that is totally the wrong word) I am dismayed at how common it seems in some countries to throw acid on women to burn their faces! Look it up. Horrible.

@iamtiff Creative, I had a somewhat similar feeling with this case: - When a death is caused using a gun, a fairly quick and hopefully a less agonizing death, I'm not *as* bothered by it. - On the other hand, when the victim suffers (strangulation/drowning, knife wounds, poison, beatings), gosh, this upsets me, and *yes* , I definitely want the perpetrator punished.

I can't believe I have never heard of any of this! I was born and raised in Independence Missouri & I'm 55. Still live here! The president Harry Truman house is still here. I grew up in that area..
