Loool. The newspaper coverage was downright Savage about her delusion. It was the age of libel suits, so they were very coy, but they published a spread of photos just to mock her.

She might have looked better before child. He might have been ugly. BUT yes, attractive women were not skinny, but rubenesque (what we think chubby). Being a bit chubby meant genetically could bear many children (healthy with ability to fed unborn child). Skinny meant sickly, trouble in childbirth and if illness hit, had no reserves to live off of to survive. Chubby also meant more than enough resources (food) - not struggling to hand to mouth so more wealthy.

Beverley was a man's name long before it was ever a woman's name. The same applies to lots of women's names today. Many of them are stolen men's names. Women are now being called Parker, Harper, Avery, Madison, Riley, Quinn, Peyton, Ashley, Taylor, Bailey, Emerson, Charlie, Morgan, Sydney - all men's names.

My great-grandparents and my grandmother all survived the 1906 San Francisco quake. It's fascinating to me to think that this would have been front-page news and that my great-grandfather would have been reading this and following along with this strange story.

I find it so amazing in all these cases how in-depth the police investigation work was for the time. Now we have computers and forensic scientists etc. they did not but still were able to solve cases. Once again very interesting and entertaining 👍😉

I love listening to these stories. I have seizures and can't stare at the screen for long. With these I just start the video and set my tablet to the side. It has interesting content and I do t even have to watch it. I absolutely love it!!! Please keep doing more stories!!! Especially the older ones. They're my favorite.

I do feel kind of bad for her son. Born to a selfish, narcissistic mother, an absent father, mother imprisoned, and then dying young. Must have been a difficult life for him. (Not to mention being named Beverly, but maybe that was a common man's name back then.)

U know why because the jerk could have killed the kids. She wasn't trying to poison the kid's. But at the same time she didn't bother to think. What if the kid's eat the chocolates and die of poisoning. Knowing that she still didn't it anyway. So I don't feel bad for her either. If u ask me the law failed back then. The fact the she poisoned the kids to but they didn't die. Or weren't her intended target she should have faced the death penalty. She didn't get half of what she deserved.

She had a way less merciful time as she survived all her loved ones... Sometimes, sentence to live can be way harsher. I believe murderers like her who killed in less abhorent ways than, let's say, a degenerate killer who raped and cut an underaged victim in parts, should be left alive to meditate about their fault.

She seduced a guard so that she could go walking around town. It is my understanding that back in those days, men preferred their women to be somewhat hefty and stocky. I am guessing that she had a good head game. Other than that, I'm baffled.

There's no doubt Cordelia paid for her crimes with the loss of all her family members. This was a premeditated crime and she should've gotten the death penalty but justice was swift on her. Keep up the great work!

Wow!!! BC this was awesome!!! She absolutely had to have gotten the idea from the past case. This was identical in every way. It amazes me that someone will copy a past crime thinking they can do it better and get away with it. The police did a great job figuring both of these cases out and bringing the culprit to justice. i am really enjoing your stories. While i have been ill I have been watching your programs and 2 other historians work. Really love them. Interesting when you take scandinavian cases.. sometimes its sad that you can't read swedish because there is a lot of crime

A lot of English aristocracy and upper crust folk had names like Kindness, Blessing, Joyful....they also sometimes were called by names generally associated with women, such as Beverly, Kimberly, Evelyn, Carol (Carole, Caroll. etc)
