40v Electric Bike. This is the build and ride of a cordless chainsaw powered bike. The chainsaw is a 40v from green works with a 4 amp hour battery. That bike frame is an old huffy girls 24”. The bike is still fully functional and can be pedaled normally. This build was designed to make no modifications to the chainsaw so it can be easily removed and still used as a chainsaw.
Special thanks to my wife for being the test pilot.

could you add the gear ratio's that you used in this experiment, together with information about power use and max speed? that would be awesome :)

You have a very unique way of achieving things like the chain tensioner(s). I'll try you out. Good job, bro! Thumbs up

Enjoyed the adaptation of the chainsaw hack. To be honest many of these electric tool battery packs would benefit any electric bike on the market. 40v for any of the 36v bikes or the 56v with the 48v. Although the 60v packs would need an upgraded controller but I do believe they sell speed controllers that will do both 48v and 60v same with the 36v/48v . Thanks for sharing

I was planning on going with the 80v version but my friend was talking about torque. Unfortunately I can't seem to find any place that shows the torque even the store that sells it. They cover volts watts milliamps amp hours ohms but nothing about torque.

I'm planning on doing this but I want to put a big gear where the chainsaw gear is and just put the chain on the small gear but I'm not sure if it will have the torque to keep me at speed once I petal to it.
@JGD16
@JGD16 2 жыл бұрын
This chainsaw has an automatic cut out when it encounters too much resistance. The roughly 20 to 1 ratio I had seem to be the sweet spot for takeoff and acceleration but not great for top end. You could go lower with the gear ratio which will give you a higher TopSpeed but the chainsaw might cut out at low speeds so you would definitely have to always pedal first. Good luck!

Do you think a 20 volt chainsaw would still work?
@JGD16
@JGD16 Жыл бұрын
The 20v will be very underpowered but it can still be done. You may have to adjust the gear ratios to make up for lack of torque. Good luck with the build!

Would it work if I ran the chain directly to the gears already on the bike? I noticed you usually add a sprocket on the opposite side.
@JGD16
@JGD16 3 жыл бұрын
The problem with that is your gear ratio. It would create a low gear ratio and burn out your chainsaw clutch. You will need a large sprocket on the wheel or a jack shaft in between.
