I asked a worker at the local McDonald's if the $20 minimum wage has effected them and she told me hours got cut for wvery worker and the owner has warned employees that some layoffs will need to happen.

Giving fast food workers a "living wage" is a scam and abuse of the employees. These are not supposed to be careers, these are supposed to be pass thru jobs for highschoolers, you arent supposed to camp on these jobs. There are a lot of people in this world who do not have it in them to meet more than the minimum expectations. By giving a fast food worker a "living wage" you are making it so they can just barely scrape by. Keep in mind, no amount these people could be paid would be enough to be comfortable... they are therefore being stripped of any ambition that they otherwise would have been forced to have, and being trapped in these shitty situations, sometimes forever... after 20 years at Macdonalds, what are you going to do?

I agree mostly, historically these jobs have been a few supervisors and managers, and mostly part time, older peeps in the Am, teenagers in the PM. I has been an attempt at full time since good full time jobs are getting limited.

Ask yourself whether making this one business more profitable for it's one owner is more important than assisting half a million working people in an economic crisis. The concept of "free market: that you presumably celebrate allows for businesses to fail. In fact it encourages it. This business if older than most American buildings are meant to last, but not as old as the owner.

Exactly! I worked about a year and a half at McD's around 89 to 91 while in high school and it paid for my car insurance and gas and running money. Enjoyed working there with friends, we made good food back then and made about $4.50 an hour.

I did a great job at McDonalds, and I asked for a raise, and got it (+10 cents an hour), and the manager was warning me, that they give more hours to those earning less. When I got the raise, they dropped my hours to near zero. The family owned about 4, but only made money at 3 at a time. The mall was the yo-yo. They either made great money, or lost money month to month.

Soon any new fast food restaurants will be ran by machines and they’ll have a couple people to ran the restaurant and a couple technicians to fix the robots and that will be it maybe a couple techs to fix machines at multiple restaurants . I’ve been to a Borders Books (when they were still around) in San Antonio, TX. Wow did the bathroom reeked. Turns out homeless people back then hung out in large bookstores & libraries even back then. Nowadays, at our library in Wisconsin, there’s a now no sleep policy. If you look like you’re camping, you’re out.

I think it's entiteled for a person with no qualification what so ever or no qualification that serves the business, they're working in, to demand what is called "a living wage", instead of being glad that they're getting paid at all. The results of such entitelment can be seen now- as nobody is able or willing to buy 20$ burgers, the restaurants are closing, the employees are getting laid off and are left with no income at all. Let's see how they manage with no wage instead of low wage!

Raising minimum wage doesn’t raise wages; it makes it illegal to hire people with low skills. Unlike the government, private businesses can’t pay people more than they generate for the business.

If Elon Musk can get a $53 billion payout while laying off 10% of his workforce, I think most companies, in an era of record profits, can afford to pay people a fair and living wage.

So many iconic restaurants that survived the great depression didn't survive the great taking. The following are some restaurants that were around during the great depression and some were opened not long after The Buena Vista Cafe - 1910 Alioto's - 1925 Anchor Brewing Co. - 1890s #9 Fisherman's Grotto - 1935 Pompei's Grotto - 1946 Tarantino's - 1946 Those are just a handful that I can think of. If the lockdown didn't close them down, the increase in wage will. London's "husband" will sure reap a lot of prime real estate at 1-2 cents to the dollar. And she'll be paid very handsomely.

Live alerts don't reliably show up; this time only as ending 🤔. Theres the recent Android glitch "frozen keyboard". And when an ad comes on while texting a comment, it'lll override the comment function, delete your text. Notice the ads never go missing or get deleted... It's almost like the tech industry is putting the CEO's urge for the latest $500,000,000.00 (plus taxes, fees and delivery) megayacht ahead of us customers. A cynic would see a ploy pushing people to buy their latest model 😁

@@GS-zc4sk You might enjoy Louis Rossmann, doing vids on what tech companies get up to. He started repairing 🍎 devices, found the mfr. blocking this. There's profit in selling the latest, not some guy soldering a replacement part for you at 5-10% cost of buying new. Some mfr. now glues battery to screen so guys like him can't just swap out parts. Now he's in a national Right To Repair movement, and has great rants while BlackBerry, Mr. Clinton and Oreo put in cameos. Also more general useful stuff he's found out. Like how to gain confidence (provide value to other people, they'll want this to keep on, so they'll be there for you). There, the root of our species' success wrapped in the story of how he got a workshop going. I wish school had been this much fun, by nature we soak up knowledge through stones. 💡

Nobody is surprised by more and more restaurant chains closing in this economy. But it is a great opportunity for individual restaurants that don’t have to pay those higher wages.

No. People will simply start eating out less, and the other restaurants will raise their prices too, since there's much less competition and they have to pay their employees more too. The cost of living will be compounded because there are less restaurants paying taxes, so taxes must eventually get increased too. There's no silver lining with governmental interference and socialism. It's a cancer. Don't stop voting Democrat! The grossly inaccurate way in which liberals view the world in a utopian (socialistic) fantasy is why conservatives see the liberals as very infantile children, and very dangerous ones. This is the part where we say "we told you so".

I hope we don't lose Tommy's too! I've loved them for 60 years. The nurses and students at Queen of Angels loved to get Tommy's Burgers with that wonderful chili and soft buns.

At least 10 other restaurants within one mile. They can help themselves. You certainly aren't helping. Their employer never did anything special for them either, it seems, other than pay the legally enforced minimum amount and let the workplace and equipment fall apart.
