@The Pasty British Guy From Wonderwoman Which is the one that actually matters. They are the ones paying their money to see these films.Professional critics are not. And they sometimes need to be careful not to offend certain groups for fear of backlash. Imagine offending the feminist/SJW crowd in todays age. Some people do because they don't give a fuck, but others don't want that in their life, so they go out of their way to make sure it doesn't happen. Or they shill a certain movie, because they want to remain in the good graces of companies and keep the access that they have. That's a sad truth. Just look at other jobs that get access to movie productions. Can you imagine if somebody invited to a press tour, where reporters sit down with actors from the movie to answer them question in order to promote the film, asked some really uncomfortable question. Like "So Daisy (Daisy Ridley, actress that plays Rey), how come Rey can use the Jedi Mind trick that Luke had to train years to use, an hour after she finds out she even has the force. What's up with that?". I doubt that question would be allowed in the first place. But lets say someone went off script, got the footage out and released it. You think that person ever gets asked back for another press tour by Lucasfilm and perhaps Disney in general? I don't. The only time seemingly uncomfortable questions are asked, is because the movie studio side wants that. Like asking Daisy about the Ma-Rey Sue thing. Because they want to respond to that. It's pre planned. Normal viewers have none of that baggage. For the most part you get an honest overlook about how they feel. And a professional critic is not more qualified to begin with. They are professionals because someone pays them, that's all. They didn't all study film and have their own experiences how to make or write a film. For example. Ghostbusters 2016. The audince score is 50%, the critics score is 74% on rotten tomatoes. Do you think that movie is a 7,5 out of 10? Ghostbusters 2 has 61% from the audience and 53% from critics. So that 2016 Ghostbusters movie was supposedly better than Ghostbusters 2, according to the critics. But the fans see it the other way around. I agree with the fans. Or this recent Dave Chappelle special story. critics nuked it because he dared to be politically incorrect, while fans enjoyed it. On the other end of the spectrum some Rian Johnson Clue remake with an all white cast got 100% from critics because it was against the MAGA crowd etc (why rate a movie on the acting, plot, writing when you can just rate it on the political message). Point being, you can't trust critics, while the audience is like taking a large poll.
@_Feanor_.4 жыл бұрын
@The Pasty British Guy From Wonderwoman There will be those. You failed to mention that it goes in either directions of the extreme spectrum however. While there will be those complaining about the tiniest crap, there will also be those that praise it for the tiniest crap. Which in the end gives it some balance. But it comes down to sample size, right. I'd rather take the overall average rating of 50000 or so people, than the average of 30 critics. The larger the sample size, the more accurate and representative the result is gonna be. And that's only how well received a movie is after the fact. I'd never look at reviews of anyone to decide if I should go see a certain movie. I can make my own opinion after seeing it.

As a kid, I was obsessed with this movie and was both excited and dreading watching this review. A lot of the criticism is pretty dead on, even from a die-hard fan. The guy who plays Mace is one of the worst actors I've seen outside of porn and yeah, the scene with the runaway horse was pointless. But, you forgot to highlight the things that it does get right. The ewoks convey emotion well even under the fur outfits, the music is epic and exciting, many of the special effects are practical and hold up better than they might have, and I think that the world that was created felt immersive; it never felt like actors hammering out a quick cash-grab on a set.
@forcedadventure6 жыл бұрын
STILL THEY ARE NICE MOVIES !!!
@yarpen262 жыл бұрын
I feel like the runaway horse scene was a way for them to build up Chuka-Trokh and Mace's friendship, since even though he had just tried getting him out of the water, he failed and it required Wicket's magic stick. If you pay attention, you will notice that the writers try very hard to make all of the major Ewoks contribute to the journey in some way so as not to feel pointless.
@user-lf5vv8tn1d Жыл бұрын
@@yarpen26 The script needed another two months of scathing internal criticsm and revision. The weakest parts of this feel (to me now as an adult) like last-minute storyboard add-ins to make the length that TV sponsors needed.

This is just a random comment but I thought it was worth writing. I am Chilean, but I live in France and my roommate is Brazilian, the other day I was watching one of your reviews and suddenly he came into the room and said: "Oh, Chris Stuckman?, he's awesome!". It really impressed me that we both knew you, just shows how good your videos are. Just wanted to let you know, not only your reviews are great but also they break the language, geographical and cultural barriers, hope you keep up the good work (and if you don't I hope it's because you're doing something else that makes you happy)

also while still disjointed and poorly paced at least you get a couple plot progression points and some cool battles. significantly better than caravan.

Maybe it's because I had the cartoons on VHS but all the while I was watching, I got so excited - ohhh, I know this Ewok character! I know this one too! What was his name again? Oh! Master Logray!

Im one of the kids of the 80's that loves these movies for nostalgic purposes. I must have watched them at least 10 times each as a kid. I still have the VHS tapes. Ive studied film and to be honest I've not seen them in at least 17 years. I should rewatch!

As a kid in the 80s, I loved this completely. The nostalgia still wins out against the adult eyes, though I acknowledge the problems.

Is it Christmas? We get two Hilariocity reviews from Chris in a row and he is wearing a Star Wars sweater, so it much be Christmas. You cannot have possible seen the Star Wars Christmas special when it first aired... Yes, I miss the "yuk nuk" from Return of the Jedi too. Am rewatching the whole star wars series on 4k, starting with Phantom Menace, just finished Rogue One, Next stop a New Hope. George Lucas loves the Ewoks, and probably sold this idea to the TV networks who insisted on getting creative control, which explains this... Really like your work, please keep it up... Now I may have to watch this as well.

Oh man I totally forgot about those two films. It's just as painful watching the clips now as it was watching the films when they first aired. Your review was definitely on point for this one. Looking forward to what you have for part two. I want to hear your thoughts about the first 10-15 minutes of Battle for Endor especially.

I remember as a young youngling in the 90s, one of these was playing on a TV in an RV when i was on some roadtrip with my grandparents. but I never saw anything or heard anyone ever talk about it again. until like a couple years ago. for the longest time, I thought I just dreamed the whole thing up

I faintly remember this film as a kid. Kinda wanted to see it as an adult knowing it would be bad...but your review was enough for me Chris......LOL! The way you explained the scenes while they were playing from 9:08 to 9:52 had me dying of laughter. You narrated it better than the actual narrator of the film.

I still maintain that Lucas made these movies primarily as a 'fantasy' test-bed for making Willow which he had Ron Howard direct 3 years later, with the additional bonus that it was a way he could continue to sell off surplus Ewok teddy bears to us young, impressionable 80s youngsters who didn't know any better.

Why are there so many creatures on Endor that you could find on Earth? I remember seeing this as a kid and it bugged me even then. It's an alien planet, showing me a mouse or a horse or an owl is only going to kill that illusion.

I'm with Stuckmann about using commercial breaks to create "dramatic tension"...I grew up watching TV shows that did that all the time. What he missed in his review were that the ads *were* the whole point...just a money-making endeavor. Heck, I bet all the ads were Star Wars toy ads!
