The Country Bears is a 2002 American family musical comedy film, directed by Peter Hastings, produced by Walt Disney Pictures, and based on the Disney theme park attraction Country Bear Jamboree. The film stars Haley Joel Osment as the voice of Beary Barrington with supporting roles done by Christopher Walken, Stephen Tobolowsky, Daryl Mitchell, M.C. Gainey, Diedrich Bader, Alex Rocco, Meagen Fay, Eli Marienthal, and the voice talents of Diedrich Bader, Candy Ford, James Gammon, Brad Garrett, Toby Huss, Kevin Michael Richardson, and Stephen Root.

The idea of serving honey to humans is actually kind of funny and clever because if you water down honey and wait a couple months you can make something called mead which is an alcoholic beverage so it makes total sense.

There’s a really great interview with the puppeteer (puppeteers also perform the voice acting) of the female bear, Trixie. I can’t remember her name, but it was fascinating . Around the time this film was being made, the internet was becoming a more of a public square to voice your opinions. Apparently, Disney panicked because of the negative discussions about the film on Disney forums while it was in production and decided cut back on some scenes. They were also going to have the scene where Trixie and Ted have their duet cut short, so the puppeteers purposely gave it everything they had to make sure the whole scene made the cut. Also, that wild crowd at the end aren’t professional extras, but rather fans of the Country Bears franchise. I’m not sure how this came about, but actual fans of the attraction were invited into the film. They didn’t want to get paid - they were genuinely happy to be there and we’re genuinely having fun. Sad that the film didn’t do as well, but the puppeteers were really passionate about it and felt the film could have been a hit had Disney not been so concerned about what the forums had to say.

This entire movie could’ve been saved by Christopher Walken pulling a ukulele out from under his shirt instead of armpit farting. If he had a legitimately good talent for music that could’ve made him successful, but the country bears beat him because people like the idea of singing and dancing bears that could talk, you feel worse for the guy and he becomes a tragic villain with legit ax to grind with the country bears.

Country Bears is one of my favorite movies. And I'm not ashamed to say that nostalgia plays a heavy factor. The first time I watched it, I was in a "bear phase" where I was reading books about bears and watching every movie and documentary about bears I could get my hands on. So, to my weird bear-loving 12-year-old self, The Country Bears was everything I could've asked for.

I was in a military and constantly had anxious breakdowns when we would move. This movie has a fond place in my heart bc my dad brought it home during one of my moments and watched it with me to calm me down. I then watched it over and over again for a week.

The Country Bears is a live action cartoon remake of The Blues Brothers with terrific music. 'Nuff said, that makes it a terrific movie. I just really can't understand why people can not accept the bizarreness of everything that happens. If it was animated, you would have no trouble with it.

That'd work. But we really need a remake of the Wizard of Oz where Walken plays Glinda *and* the Witches of the West, South and East too. And OZ too naturally, in every incarnation. It makes too much sense. You know, he could damn well play every role, besides Dorthy who'd be Liza Minnelli.

Disney loved this movie so much they recycled the plot for the Muppet movie. Seriously, watch them back to back: Muppet/Bear lives with real people, finds out the 'original hangout' of the group they're a fan of is being taken over by some business mogol, goes on a road-trip to get the group back together and foil the evil business guy.

The 'getting the band back together to save X' has been a trope in many movies, it's the 'something that clearly doesn't belong has been adopted by humans' part that sets these two apart from those. Other than that, these two try to save the venue where the group used to perform, not the orphanage they grew up in like in The Blues Brothers (as I assume you meant that movie).

Great movie and legit nice review, very well done. Everyone has the right to like strange things! Big Al is my favorite Bear in the movie! Also when the bus driver says that Beary told him "Mr Chicken is a girl!" is a terrific funny moment in my opinion!

One of my favorite childhood movies. I still love it for nostalgic reasons when I watch it. I honestly still find myself singing the songs from it at work. Country Bears left a big impression on me no matter how dumb it is.

There actually was a line that explained the cop's fake mustache in the original version. Something like "Everyone had a mustache, even Mary at dispatch", but it was edited out, most likely in order to be more politically correct.

Wow, this episode was a blast. There was not a moment here that I wasn't laughing my ass off. I never even sat through this movie, but I do remember when you put Christopher Walken's performance on your "Top 10 Awkward Christopher Walken Moments". Judging the footage, this movie is truly batshit insane. Also dug the wrap around segment with Malcolm and Jim as psychotic Doctors. Those two better keep their distance with those shocky things. lol
