With action cameras rolling, Aviation Consumer Editor Larry Anglisano took the left seat in the Cirrus SF50 Vision Jet to experience the airplane for the first time. Here we've assembled some B-roll and unscripted commentary of initial impressions when flying the airplane from Pontiac, Michigan, to Hartford, Connecticut. Look for a detailed inflight report in a follow-on video.

What does your family do being able to afford this, if I may ask? In my family with two medical doctors 2 mil on a plane is still far off the budget.

At the 2 million pricepoint there's noting (new) that can touch this. Many compare it to aircraft twice as expensive like the TBM and King Air 90. You should really compare it to the SR22 because those owners are the ones buying the Vision Jet. Big performance gain without the normal drawbacks a more capable aircraft brings with it. This thing is easy to fly and get insured on. Only possible fly in the ointment for Cirrus is that they have a backlog of 600 aircraft that they sold for 1.39 million. By now the aircraft cost probably more to manufacture. By the time those 600 aircraft have been built the people ploinking down 2 mil for a new one also have the choice to buy a used one. Same thing happened with the Eclipse. There are about 20 early positions for sale for around 1.39 million plus a $15k transfer fee. Cirrus is basically competing against itself for the next ten years if the production numbers stay around 60 aircraft per year.

Consider that their special edition SR22T went for over a million, and the cost of a new FJ33 engine, and I doubt that they are making much profit at 1.4 million.

At 270 knots, you are about 200 knots slower than most traffic up there. These things would really clog up the airways if they sell a ton of them. With the anemic performance numbers and range, I doubt that will happen.
@totalhavoc77
@totalhavoc77 6 жыл бұрын
At 270 knots they are right where it needs to be. Turbo props spend their hours in the high 20s at 250+ knots. Faster planes are in the 30s and 40s.
@dennythomas8887

that's why they fly BELOW RVSM altitudes. Who's at FL270? Turboprops and other slow FL traffic. Airliners and biz jets are up in the 30's and 40's at RVSM FL's and are no way impacted by slower below RVSM traffic.

Ken Spinoza Stone regarding overnight fees, it completely depends (airport, tie down, hangar, etc etc). Not one real answer unfortunately. Could be $10, could be hundreds. Depends on which airport you want to go to and where you want to park it while there. Just like car parking. Could pay $2 streetside at the meter in a small town or $80 overnight valet at the Ritz Carlton New York. No real answer to that unfortunately. For permanent parking/storage, it’s gonna be a monthly fee, but the answer is still the same.

The engine placement was made to create pitch stability and to balance the aircraft if the BRS was deployed. With a single jet, unless you put the engine at the back - say on the vertical stabiliser, then the only option is a V tail configuration. But as I said the V tail was dictated by the requirement for pitch stability and BRS deployment balance.

Kings Airs that can do 300 knots eat about 90GPH. That is alot more than the Vision. They also cost 4 million more new
@Rear_Admiral522
@Rear_Admiral522 6 жыл бұрын
In my opinion, they are not comparable. The King Air is built for the one sitting in the back, it's much bigger as the smallest King Air (King Air C90GTx) weighs twice as much as the SF50. Fuel flow isn't the same, the SF50 only uses 47 GPH in economy cruise. Also, comparing the two cockpits the Cirrus Jet is much more convenient for the pilot as it is made to suit him, and not a paying flight guest. And lastly, you should keep in mind the costs. The King Air costs over a million more and is probably much more expensive to maintain, two turboprops compared to one jet engine.

The biggest probme I see with this plane is that is both slow and has a somewhat good range (for what is ment to be). But since it cover such "long distance" in low speed, a toiled would be needed otherwise you will never be able to do a full leg with your family without stpoing in the middle of the trip to "take a leak". Its like the Toilet on the Phenom 100: you dont really need because you will not be long enough on the jet to use it. This one on the other hand needs one because you WILL stay there for a long time.

This plane is designed for rich amateur pilots that want a plush exotic comfortable SAFE ride to extend their travel destinations beyond their piston planes. It's like complaining about how less practical a BMW is over Toyota Camry. Well some people just like the ride. There arent any other good VLJ's that fit this market with the support Cirrus will throw behind it.
