I have one of these and love it! It´s true that Peasants were not allowed to carry Swords. "no no no, its just a big knife... dont worry about it.. no no no.. " 😂👍 i was just laughing so hard i had to restart the video

Thank you, that made my day.

If it is, it is at least a fun myth that may be true. Thanks for the heads up.

I've had mine for many years, its a good sword, one I would take into battle even today. As for the loose guard, yes that happens. Use some very thin steel, like an exacto knife blade and work it down between the guard and blade, like a shim, then add a bit of super glue. Use a bottle with a fine nozzle so you can get the glue where you need it. No problems since. As for inserting the sheath into a frog. I glued a piece of thick leather to the back of the sheath too use as a stopper. Works fine, just below the metal throat.

Not a bad idea, honestly. I am looking into some options.

Nice review as always bro. Glad to see your inner me coming out. ;) Debated on this one, but I might get the MAA Messer. Hmm... decisions, decisions.

I have a MAA longsword, an the steel holds up, but the sheaths are leather instead of wood cored. You would not go wrong with any of them.

@@Redwolfblog I found one of the newer cold steel hand and a half sword at a pawn shop for 100 bucks in very nice shape!!! The only issue was a little wiggle in the guard, but I wound waxed string between the handle and the guard where they meet then super glued it. It's nice and tight now!!!

My pastor gave me the same exact sword. I love it.

Great review. Mine is way more blade heavy which is kind of annoying now that I know that better balance CS Grosse Messer's are out there. Also, nice hat. 👍

I have one myself, I've had it for about a year I find it cuts best when you cut right at the end of the Fuller that's where the pob is.
@Redwolfblog5 жыл бұрын
That's a pretty fair statement...I would guess I cut best within 2" of that. Pretty awesome aren't they?

That most definitely isn’t the point of balance, but perhaps it is the center of percussion.

I have the Grosse Messer and the Kriegs Messer from Albion.They are Truly great in every way. Never been to fund of the CS swords,they are heavy and with not the best balance, not the most historically accurate sword eather. But love the knives from them. The swords are made in India by Windlass. Just bought the Atlanta Cutlery OSS Smatchet, and that one is made by Windlass. It was wery well made and compleatly historical accurate. 'Had a huge Fairbairn kick latly. So bought the Smatchet and a Boker Applegate/Fairbairn dagger, the CS OSS knife. And i have a Original Fairbairn/Sykes dagger from before And A little newer Sheffiel one. Really innteresting fighting style,time and men.
@Redwolfblog2 жыл бұрын
I've had VERY mixed results from Windlass. I would love to be able to put an Albion all the way through it's paces, but I suck at marketing Patreon. Hahhaaa.

I love Cold Steel I have over 40 of their products Bowie knives to folding knives to swords but if you say it won't stand up to six blows on a 3-in tree then I would definitely not want to take that into combat and risk my life behind it f**k that. but I love your videos keep them up man don't let anybody discourage you with their stupid BS. it takes a lot to make a sword that cost $350 to $400 that can stand up to beating a 3 1/2 tree. but then on the other hand I have machetes made in Honduras that I could chop a 12-in tree down with and never think twice that's a bridge I haven't crossed in my mind yet. but I do like cold steel some things are made for soft targets and some things are made for hard targets just like bullets.
@Redwolfblog2 жыл бұрын
Takes a lot more than that to discourage me. Appreciate the comment.

Have you tried sharpening it with a Japanese Wheatstone? I’m planning on getting one myself but I’m going to keep it polished and sharpened by a Japanese Wheatstone
@Redwolfblog Жыл бұрын
I do not own one currently. I have a video to run up on the little whetrock I use most often, and I might polish after it with a ceramic rod.

I wonder how it compares to the Cold Steel Hand-and-a-Half Sword, which is what I have. I suppose a more apples-to-apples comparison would be Cold Steel Grosse Messer vs. Cold Steel MAA Grosse Messer and whether it's worth the around $100 price difference.
@Redwolfblog Жыл бұрын
I find the Messe r the superior of the two. I own a MAa Longsword if you would like me to do a comparison video?

the difference between Messer(knife) and Schwert(sword) is on the construction of the hilt.

I have been carrying bowies and swords since I was 8 or 9, and I did not see that movie until I was in my twenties. I thought everyone was INSANE when they would walk by and yell that at me.

Nice video! Just a minor correction, the thing about German laws and the messer name is just a myth. In fact all men in most if not all German states where required by law to keep, train with and carry arms. Check shadiversitys video series on falchions and Messers, m.kzfaq.info/get/bejne/qtJdh61q2cCnZnk.html.
