Out for a day sail on Lac Deschenes (Ottawa River) in 20 knot gusts. Wild ride, inspiring a new saying: "one hand for the camera, one hand for the main sheet".

Thank you for not putting loud music overtop of the natural sound, top notch video mate

I don't understand how people feel the need to spoil a good vid with horrific stock music...this is a gem if for no other reason.

That is a nice day sailing. Good as it gets.

Reference your comment about a second reef making the main too small to be useful…I added a second reef to my Precision 18 which reduces mainsail area from 85 sq ft all the way down to 40 sq ft…love it! Use it all the time in heavy winds, flattens the boat and have achieved my highest recorded speeds double reefed.

Excuse, that is the 2nd reef pt which can be seen on the starboard tack. A good reason, I find, to tie off the reef points is to keep the excess from filling the roll with unwanted air, help keep the sail flat for optimum windward pointing while distributing the load along the boom. Fair winds!

What a great little boat, she cuts along very nicely, and ideal for singlehanding.

Hi, your boat seems sturdy, upwind sailing performance is quite good.
@jackrabbit50473 жыл бұрын
Yes, she performs quite well - her upwind sailing ability is due to the fact that she is one of the few Compac 19s fitted with a centerboard.
@SuperBullyone3 жыл бұрын
She has both a full keel and s dropping center board. The tangerine 18 had that in the 1970's and 1980's. They sailed well.

Hi, I really appreciate your videos of the Compac 19. We currently have an older style Mariner, and are hoping to find something like your C-19-a little more functional cabin and a bit more seaworthy than the ours.
@jackrabbit50473 жыл бұрын
Thank you. We used to own a Mariner 2 + 2 which we used at our cottage - should be some vids on this channel. I must say, the Mariner was an impressive performer, but the cabin was indeed small. The Compac 19 definitely has a more comfortable cabin.

Thank you, and sorry for taking so long to reply. We sold the Mariner and purchased a Slipper 17, but I still cast glances longingly at the Compac 19...:). There is a “first version” Mk1? For sale near me that I could purchase at a reasonable price, but I think the second version Compac 19 might be worth waiting for. I still really, really appreciate your videos. I showed my wife the one where you were demonstrating the interior features.

I do not see a reef point for the luff of the main, appears to be fully extended, just the leech shortened...why?
@jackrabbit50472 жыл бұрын
There is a reefing grommet at the luff which holds it down via a hook on the gooseneck. Sometimes it comes off because in my haste to get going I don't "catch" it on the hook properly. I'll probably be installing a short strop with a ring to hook it better.

could you tell me where you purchased the anchor bag on bow of boat?
@jackrabbit50473 жыл бұрын
Oh, its just an old army surplus canvass haversack or ammo bag - I had bought mine from an outdoor store called LeBaron's (which is now gone in Canada), but you should be able to find something similar in any army surplus store or perhaps even Cabellas.
