FWIW, the late great holster maker Lou Alessi taught me how to break in a new leather holster without damage. Put the gun inside a small plastic bag like a freezer bag, fold the bag up tight around the gun and insert gun in the holster and leave it in for a day or two, if still a bit tight, repeat the process. your gun will now fit the holster like a glove. Hope this helps in the future. Sam

+usmc2511 I know...I keep being told this. I've messed up holsters by not breaking them in properly. I guess that's my impatience. I actually messed up a few leather holsters by trying to break it in by unholstering reholstering and messed the mouth up. So I need to learn from my past mistakes! Thanks for the reminder.

The Diamond D chest holster's are a great holster. Can stand up to the elements and is very comfortable. I have a Diamond D for my S&W 500, S&W 686, S&W .460x. Each 1 has there own Diamond D holster. The nice thing about Alaska is it is a open/c.c. carry state with out a permit. These holsters are great for when out hunting and or camping. When I sleep when I am out hunting or camping I keep it on at all times. After a short time of breaking it in you really don't feel that your carrying it. The 1 I have had the longest and still use is almost 8-9 years old and I have used it from camping to hunting. I hunt for birds to bears here in Alaska from summer to winter and Diamond D Holsters have never let me down.

I have the same holster for my 686 plus and it is great for outdoor use, especially when you need to have both hands free. Since we have quite a bit of wildlife where we live it is perfect when walking the dog of hiking in the woods. I was able to attach a couple of speed loaders to the strap which works great. One of the other great features is there is so much room for adjustment it can be worn over just about and coat you might have.
@TheOl19118 жыл бұрын
+Tom Frederick that sounds great! So do you ever run into other people? Just curious what their reaction is when they see this system being worn.
@efreck128 жыл бұрын
+TheOl1911 I have run into others while I have had the rug on, but it has always been when I have been wearing a jacket or vest. I know it was seen and I believe it is less ominous looking when only part of the rig is showing. I do think it would be ok outside a jacket in the woods, but would make people uneasy if you walked the streets or entered a business with it.

Just watched your video.....I own this holster and have ALWAYS lived in an "Open Carry" state and personally would never live where open carry was illegal or frowned upon. This is AMERICA folks and the 2A is still alive and well last I heard....but I digress......the holster is top quality and I would highly recommend it for those of us who spend a lot of time in the outdoors of this great nation.

there is a chest holster called the Alaska Sportsman, but if you're willing to spend the money, you will find no better than diamond d. I have the same rig as the video and it's super comfortable and easy on the shoulder. I've carried my 460 vxr all around Alaska, and the diamond d is well worth the money....

I carry a chest holster for my 5inch in hunting. I handload my own rounds in 240gr jacketed. I also hunt with game ears because when you touch this off without any type of ear protection it will hurt your ears (painfully). Also I have two speedloaders I carry for it.

~I use this system to carry my S&W 686 when hunting, hiking and camping. I can open carry in my State. ~I also use it to carry concealed in the Late Fall and Winter. ~Is it expensive? Yes, since high quality usually is. Is it worth the cost? Yes, at least I think so. It should last a few lifetimes or more. ~IMO, the marks you're getting are Beauty Marks.

Get the front of the cylinder on your 460 XVR black powder chamfered by Bowen Classic Arms. I had it done to my 460V by just sending my fluted cylinder into Bowen Classic Arms. I use the DiamondDCustom Guides Choice holster for mine too.
@TheBeefSlayer7 күн бұрын
What does that do? Just keep it from looking burnt?

The leather used by DiamondDCustom is naturally tanned using vegetable oil. Just replenish it with rubbed in vegetable oil if it dries out.

I've got an S&W TRR8 and it's been nearly impossible to find holsters for it. I'm planning to use it to deer hunt and am prolly going to have to shell out big $$$ to have a custom shoulder holster made for it. If you or anyone else has suggestions let me know.
@TheOl19118 жыл бұрын
+Bob Smith The M&P R8 is in my sights to get at some point. I know of a local city PD that had utilized them. Unfortunately yes you will have to go the custom route for that revolver. I know of an armored car guard that carries the M&P R8 and he uses a Safariland and a Milt Sparks. So... Milt Sparks makes a holster for the M&P R8 and I'm sure they can make one for the TRR8 with or without rail. But the only models they can make it in is the 200AW (my personal favorite range/field holster) or the HSR. Both are field holsters and both are pricy. 6-10wk lead time. Simply Rugged also makes a pancake holster for the M&P R8 / TRR8 for about $80 and you'll have it in 10 biz days. How do you like your TRR8?

I have a DiamondDCustom Guides Choice holster made for my 5 inch 460 Smith and Wesson X-frame revolver. Love it as it is top-quality and the leather is vegetable oil tanned the old fashioned slow quality way. The method means your piece will not rust if you leave it in the holster.
