you didn't use the right kind of nail. It has to be made of pure sugar. Then it will dissolve.

It needs to be an Iron nail. it looks as though you've used a steel nail. Steel is an alloy, and is formulated to rust much slower. The Phosphoric Acid in Cocacola breaks down the Iron Oxide (rust) into water and ferric phosphate (which is corrosian resistant). Once this is done, the iron will rust again when left in the coke, and the process wil start again. So the coke is eating away the rust, not the iron itself until there is no nail. I imagine it would work on steel as well, but it would take much much longer. Unless of course the nail has been coated already in ferric phosphate, and it is corrosian resistant to begin with as mentioned above.
