If Shawshank was made in 'current year,' Andy would spend the entire film dealing with childhood trauma, and Red would be constantly guilting him about slavery.

Rob Reiner wanted a Name Actor for Andy... and in that respect I can understand it (because it's safe) but we all knowthat wouldn't have worked as well. Actually, I've never thought that Tim Robins was the perfect actor for Andy... but I've always thought the rest of the cast *is* utterly PERFECT.

I love it when Red says that Boggs isn't homosexual, either. You'd have to be human, first. Like Mark said, Boggs' actions have nothing to do with homosexuality, it's his way of inflicting fear and pain, because he's a cold, inhuman monster who feeds on suffering. I don't think he would get any pleasure from the sexual acts themselves, only from the feeling of power it gives him over someone else. Great, chilling performance, and I love that he went from playing a cool badass like Drake to a creepy monster like Boggs.

One of the few? The movie is almost ALWAYS better than the book, because authors are always overindulgence weirdos who put shit in their work that should be cut out. The Godfather, the Shining, Goodfellas, Cuckoo's Nest (although here, the book is really close to the movie), etc, etc.

Shawshank is about as perfect as movie as I have seen anywhere. What an absolute monster of a movie. THIS is what good writing looks like!! Excellent work of art. For me I really liked how the film shows how you have all these people who couldn't or didn't want to adhere to the rules and systems on the outside world, but quickly had to learn to adapt to the rules and the system within the prison, otherwise they were not going to make it. There was no next level jail. Is usually meant their death.

This segment makes me think about the hierarchy of predators in this movie. I really think Boggs thought he was at the apex. When he was met by Hadley in his cell after getting out of The Hole, he still didn't realize what was going on right up until the moment the beating started. In that moment, you might think that Hadley was the top dog, but then you realize that it was likely Norton, the true apex predator, that ordered it.

It was the perfect storm of script, character, an actor's director willing to go to bat for him before filming, a director willing to let him change lines during filming, and a director willing to give him his props after production wrapped. love the channel Drinker!! Thanks. small comment, next time you arrange an interview, can you arrange to get the guest a basic headset, a basic Jabra is good, you can send it to them as an amazon gift, so the sound is good for the interview.

This might be a bit of a cliche but what there's no question that the role of Drake is an Aliens favourite. He left too soon. But his death added to the point of Vasquez sacrifice. So it all adds up. What a fantastic interview this is. It's not even an interview, just two guys chatting for a couple of hours.

Rolston is an interesting actor. Skydance and Paramount should cast this guy to voice Cyclonus in future transformers movies after Rise of the Beasts.

OMG this is Bogs Diamond's actor?! Shawshank Redemption is the best movie of all time in my opinion, by the way.

After the podcast was cut, Mark Rolston said to Drinker, _"Everyone needs a friend. I could be a friend to you."_ 🤣

Its hard to play a compelling villain. He did one hell of a job as Boggs.

Total speed change. But I think based on our current culture I’ve really gotta recommend you watch “Dangerous Liaisons”. It’s a great period piece movie, and the last scene is so prescient to some things going on right now. The last scene alone will make your jaw drop. Hope you can find the time. Thanks for this vid. Going through a divorce is tough, but I hope getting this role helped salve the wound.
