EGO Z6 battery charging issue

On my EGO Z6 zero turn mower the battery would not get charged to 100 charge. The charger stops charging and the display would indicate a full charge, but when unplugged, that LCD would show a lower charge level.

I have the Ego Z6 42" and in it's second season. I've never updated the firmware because I've heard of issues after doing so. Not sure if that's the right way to go but so far no issues with anything. My original walk behind has the original battery and although it doesn't hold the the same battery time, it runs like new, I just have to take a break to charge it or pop in a 2.5 to finish. I have a slightly inclined front yard and big backyard. About a 1/3 acre total.

Bought new at Lowes and have had charging problem. The machine will not charge I get a red light on the status light when hooking up the charger. The problem is NOT the charger because I have access to a 2nd machine and charger worked fine with these batteries on that machine. T/S has issued a repair ticket but tells me I have to get the machine back to Lowes. Pain in the ass!

Lowe’s does not do repairs either.

They make a zero turn with a steering wheel and one without.

I sold the lawnmower together with my house. It clearly is a software issue. My "fix" was to pop the batteries out once they reached a full charge. With the latest firmware, the mower also didn't shut down forever after turning it off which drained the batteries as well. Ego needs to fix their firmware.

Hi Jason! EGO will pick up my mower and service it to fix whatever is wrong. We will wait until the mowing season is over as I can still use it. So far I have been very happy with the mower, the only issue I have (and others have reported) are slight traction issues on sloped areas.

Absolutely recommend buying this mower. We have the 52” and we bought it for Little League. We use it for everything: cutting the grass on (5) fields, dragging the infields, picking up trash, hauling crushed concrete, sod, and infield mix. This machine is an absolute beast. You will never go back to gas after using one of these machines. It is unmatchable.

Sounds like a processor issue. Did you try completely discharging the batteries, then do a full charge cycle?

yes I have updated it to the latest firmware and I am in contact with EGO support. I will post an update once I hear back from EGO

I just bought a new one yesterday and have the same problem. What I have found is that if I open my mower page in the app and scroll down to see the individual battery charges, 3 of the batteries are at 100% and 1 is at 58%. Taking the low battery out and putting it in my push mower charger seems to confirm to me that the battery is bad (since the stand-alone charger will not charge it either and it also shows it at 100%).

I would do this for every battery in the mower to fully check and test.

I tried to charge my four batteries when i bought my z6 zero turn mower but only three would charge. should i return the battery or am i doing something wrong for the fourth battery not to charge

Hi John, have you tried to swap the batteries around to see whether one of the battery ports in your Z6 isn't working? If the same battery doesn't charge regardless of the port, call Ego and have it replaced

I just bought a 52 inch last month and am having the exact same problem. Ego customer service doesn’t have an answer. I’m going to have to return it. No other option.

EGO told me that my lawn mower would have to be brought in for service. You should call the customer support and open a ticket about your case as well.

Maybe a couple of the batteries have dead cells

Yes, that will probably be it! I had the lawnmower stored in my garage for a couple weeks recently. It was plugged in the whole time and charged to full after plugging it in. When I came back after a couple weeks, the battery level was at 74%.
