MRE from MiKE - t.co/zJGIwafiyt Fact! MRE stands for "Meal, Ready-to-Eat" and not "The Military Ration Experience," which was a seventies band.

Back when I were a nipper in the mid sixties, and a member of the school CCF, *all* UK military rations (known as 'Compo' rations at that time) came in tins including the Cadburys chocolate bars, cigarettes and matches. Yup, every box of Compo rations had one tin containing cigarettes and a box of matches, considered essential to the well being of the British soldier at that time.

@lauraiss10279 жыл бұрын
Klotser Jr No, it's Hungarian name for the dish, consisting of meat and different sauces. At least half of Russian words are borrowed. Actually, I do not know what dish could be native for Russians that is not borrowed from other nations, like mongols, tatars and such. Except maybe for pancakes and vodka. They borrowed all the best from all countries, they invaded or united. But what can You expect - at the very beginning, actual native Russian territory was a tiny spec on eurasian map, check wikipedia. There is almost nothing really Russian, no matter how they wanted it to be.

+venichen1 ... I have no idea what that means. Though the writing look more nordic than the Russianny-Cyrillic I'd expected for a country that far east
@venichen18 жыл бұрын
Oh you're not into the whole /int/ or Polandball thing then. Estonia is a Baltic country (along with Lithuania and Latvia). Estonian is closely related to Finnish. The Baltics don't use Cyrillic for their languages though.
@Convict1478 жыл бұрын
+AgentTasmania The Baltics =/= Slavs, we have a Latin alphabet. Lithuanian is the oldest surviving Indo-European language, which has preserved the most phonetical and morphological aspects of the proto-language which many other European languages come from. (wikipedia) Latvian, on the other hand, has some Slavic influences, but is still very similar to Lithuanian. Estonian is more Scandinavian than Baltic though, in my opinion.

This seems like a somewhat inconvenient MRE, besides the fact it actually looks somewhat tasty lol. It looks fairly heavy (with all the cans) and it kinda seems like a meal replacement. Most MRE I'd assume should be very light and contain a lot freeze dried stuff,maybe even need water to "resurrect" the "food". You also can't heat up cans if your say in middle of a desert, forest or wutever. You don't want to add a ton of weight to your pack in the field, but I'm not a military expert lol, so I could be mistaken.
@VicvicW9 жыл бұрын
Usually they're vacuumed packed and already wet, just in case you don't have enough water. Although the tins are odd. British ones definitely don't have tins.
@patricklogan3139 жыл бұрын
Jere Aho You can reheat cans... The can is like a pot so all you need is fire or you can pop a hole in the top and boil the can until it's hot.
@Covernant9 жыл бұрын
Jere Aho During my compulsory service we heated the cans right away on squad tent ovens. It was very convenient. Also they tasted decent cold as well. Eventually, since most had their own food with them as well, there were many leftover cans. Got heavy pretty fast. We just left ours in our Pasis. All the sweet stuff was eaten though. Really great MRE for morale.
@KomandantMirko9 жыл бұрын
Jere Aho mre is just one meal. i'm assuming this is a whole day ration, hence the weight of 1.5kg (around 3 pounds)

Patrick Logan American MREs use heating bags though which, even though it needs to have extra bags just to do that, is still much lighter than tons of metal tins. Also American MREs are much, much more quality than this.

That thing with the meet and potatoes is pronounced G(as in goat)OOLASH, and it's actually pretty nice when you know how to prepare it. And the paprika thing is basically a paprica filled with meat, onions and rice that are pre-cooked, and then you put the whole thing in the oven. Again, quite pleasant, my grandma is cooking it for lunch tomorrow :) I love schooling people on food....
