For those who have not used Ai to make art, one tip. You cannot use the image the Ai gives you directly. Quality will be very low after printing. I find that it takes several other programs needed to produce an acceptable, quality image. It is not as easy as it is made to sound.
@etsyconsultant

Correct, you have to upscale the base image.

What kind of programs are you referring to? Do you mean upscalers?
@mikeberg5003
@mikeberg5003 3 ай бұрын
@@broadcast3ful I create AI images with Midjourney. Within Midjourney itself you can upscale your image. It's just one click. HOWEVER you will need to do 2 more things. First is to make any background transparent if you are doing something like clipart. For that you need something like Canva, Photoshop, Paintshop Pro etc. There are also online sites that can help. If you are making wall art you might not need to make the background transparent.But you also need to increase the size of your images using something like Paintshop pro or Photoshop. Bottom line, your image needs to be 300 dpi at a minimum and most of my images are 4000 x 4000 pixels. Now all I have to do is get people to actually BUY what I make. It's been a long slog of almost a year
@jayc4743
@jayc4743 3 ай бұрын
@@broadcast3ful Personally, (because everyone is different) I use photoshop and a program that converts images into vector graphics. An upscaler will help, but still will not give a very clear image when printing to large items. There are various programs that are similar, but I found you have to pay for the best ones.
@jayc4743

@@broadcast3ful I tried to answer before, not sure if it went through. You will need a Photoshop type software and I use a software that converts graphics into vector graphics. Upscalers will also not be enough alone, but they do help.

I disagree. I think the human created art will be perceived as having more value and will cost more because of it. I'm already seeing this in one of the types of businesses I'm in, where the AI-generated stuff is just as good as anything human's can do, but it sells for 80% less than the material being sold as "fully human" created.

Of course they will accept it, like you said it's not going anywhere and they (etsy) know that there is a lot of money for them to make there. Whether anyone likes the decision or not, etsy is looking for income generators for their business. I don't mind if sellers use it as a tool but also don't agree with the ones that pass off entire images as their own...that is manipulating buyers and diminishing the efforts of sellers that do put the effort into their work. I wish this could be prevented.

Yes, I agree, there needs to be some way to know whether the product is wholly AI or part produced by AI, from a customer perspective. Honestly, I don't think Etsy cares and will only add these features if there is a big outcry about it from either sellers, customers or both.

When everyone is using AI, the challenge for sellers will be how to choose the right products to offer, as otherwise there will be a plethora of options that leave buyers confused and uncertain about what to choose. It's similar to wanting to write an article and asking AI to help you, but in the end, you still need to make multiple revisions to make it the article you envisioned.

What many people dont realise is that when an AI image is made it is raw, and often very faulted. It needs upscaling, it needs repairing, altering, often over painted by using a pen using other software. There are deformities, sometimes an extra leg, or things on the image that just dont look right, so a lot of skill is needed to put things right. If you want a png, an image with no background, you have to use software to remove the background. Some sellers dont seem to realise that the raw AI images are very low quality, and after removing the background, they may not zoom in to have a proper look, if they did they would discover a whole host of fuzziness, imperfections which take a long time meticulously by hand with a pen deleting them. Most of the time there are bits missing that have to be hand drawn and painted. AI is not a quick way at all. To achieve good image there are no short cuts. Then after all the hand work you need to change the image into a high quality 300 dpi file. I am assuming that there are a lot of poor quality products on etsy due to lack of knowledge. AI images to me are just a base to be worked on, not a finished product.

I’ve been using AI for a while now with my Etsy shop. It does a great job finding the right words to say on my listing descriptions and titles. The downside of it is that I have to customize some of the words because it’s not my voice. So, The emotional part is the one that we have to customize on those listings and titles. Plus, I have to be specific on what I need AI to do. For example, for an Etsy listing description, I asked it to reword my description and persuasive, engaging, and light tone. That’s what I mean by being specific. Otherwise, it will be more of a general statement and it’s not even my voice. Other than that, I said that AI will be the future.

It is a tool like any other program. I think it's half handmade so it can classify as handmade because you do have to do half the work to make it sell. Just like people who make stuff to sell they don't make the fabric or yarn themself, they bought the materials to make it and it's half handmade by them so I think it's the same concept. If anything is truly handmade it needs to be made from scratch from the creator they got to make all of their materials and supplies for their products but they don't too so AI is no different.

One of the issues with AI is for design of crochet/knitting patterns. People will get AI to design a pattern but the pattern doesn’t represent the image so you don’t get what you think you’re buying. AI isn’t sophisticated enough to be able to write these patterns, so people are selling them and deceiving customers by the image of the supposed finished item. If people used AI to generate pattern ideas, then write the pattern themselves, that would be fine. But that’s not what’s happening and people are getting ripped off.
@ruthier8519
@ruthier8519 3 ай бұрын
Absolutely! I’m an amigurumi maker and I do use AI to replace the backgrounds in my product photography, but it is still my actual handmade products. I know a lot of designers are extremely frustrated by this because of exactly what you said, people are asking AI to write a pattern for a teddy bear and then selling the pattern and undercutting the real designers in price because they haven’t had to put any time or effort into it, and anyone who buys that pattern and actually tries to make something from it is going to find that it is not even close to what they thought they were paying for. If Etsy is going to approve using AI, they are going to have to find a way to discern/prohibit this type of use or they are going to end up with a lot of really unhappy customers as well as sellers. Otherwise, eventually I think that the real pattern designers are going to end up leaving Etsy and having to find another platform - which means that real pattern buyers will follow as well.

Amazing news, AI is an amazing toolset that can enhance both workflow and inspire ideas. It isn't going away, be it Art, Music, Video, Coding or helping us in our daily lives. Scary I know but this is not a time to be a luddite because I genuinely believe that those that adapt and adopt AI early will have a huge leg up on those that don't. Also I totally agree with some of the other comments that when it comes to art, you cannot just generate the art and try and sell it, it needs more work to make sure it is at a printable quality, luckily there are AI tools for that also. I don't think AI is any worse than using stock photography and ready made graphics. In fact at least it's more unique rather than seeing 100s of designs with the same base graphics from a stock site. Ultimately like any tool, if its used well then people will likely succeed with it. You still need some basic design skills to create anything that people will want to buy. If you don't at least have the creative ideas to begin with then it's no different than a digital camera in the hands of someone with no idea how to frame a photo. or process it afterwards. It's here to stay so you might as well use it, if it helps. If not then stick to what you know works but there's really no point in complaining about it because i doubt it's going anywhere. It's a fun tool just to get the creative juices flowing if nothing else.

I think of AI tools as just that, tools. I use it for graphic design for my digital paper craft products. It’s just a component just like the public domain images I used before AI. I often draw over and fox the images because I am a digital artist and can actually hand edit the errors. Is AI finished art and in that respect, handmade. Not really. More of a produce of design than anything, but is still a creative form of it’s own type…if that makes sense.

You have always had the right to freely sell art or design created with the assistance of AI on Etsy as long as you have the right to use that image. When you provide a text prompt to generative AI models, the resulting images cannot be copyrighted in the United States. Images generated by AI are generally considered to be in the public domain. if you like a design you like a design. Does it matter if the person who created it used a paintbrush or clay or wool or a chainsaw or a mouse and keyboard? Why should they mention it if a knitter doesn't mention who made the wool or who manufactured the paint and brushes and which trees the paper is made from for the reams and reams of people selling average watercolours. Something has been created by a persons imagination and the tools involved shouldn't really matter. It's a unique piece of art by any definition. Its a little elitist to assume someone's imagination and creativity should be held back because they can't afford a workshop or aren't skilled in more traditional methods. Of course there's terrible ai art out there but honestly there's absolutely awful handmade art too. if it sells people must want it. embrace it, its fun!
