Could organ shrinkage and rapid regrowth be better explained by mostly glycogen loss and replacement than cell destruction and regrowth, which would probably take longer?

Potentially. However, if you look at the histological stains at 9:17 it appears like the nuclei of the cells are denser in 4 than 3, suggesting smaller, potentially new cells (Looking into the paper (Figure 1 O) they used an H&E stain, so the dark spots should be nuclei.). So this would suggest to me that this growth in mass could actually at least partially the result of rapid cell division.

I could see refeeds using controlled amounts of highly accessible, or bioavailable, aminos being wonderful for enhancing collagen lattice and other connective tissues. I only go to stimulate the muscles to further prevent muscle tissue catabolism. The pituitary gland increases the amount of HGH produced to preserve muscles as well.

I know this is an old video but I just stumbled upon you channel. I also just watched a newer video regarding how keto affects the heart. So I have following questions: 1. Does fasting also supposedly damage the heart? Fasts are time restricted whereas a diet is a constant thing but still… 2. What happens to the heart when fasting? Does it also shrink (and regenerate)? From I have read/watched it is one of the organs that almost don’t regenerate at all. TIA

Interesting, I'm a t1d with a continuous glucose monitor. I am profoundly interested in nutritional science, endocrinology and energy systems. I have done many fasts 24-36 hours, the odd 72 but just finished a 5day water only. Much of your ascertions in mice studies I concur with myself. After day 4 I found weakness in muscle and strength plus shortness of breath. No lack of energy or tiredness, hunger wasnt an issue tbh. At refeed day 5 I could have continued. Most Interesting I found was Initially I felt that going over 4 days for me was perhaps detrimental to my muscle protein and catabolism of muscle BUT regrowth of muscle in the subsequent days after refeed concurs with the study and actually a substantial improvement in muscle strength over usual pre fast training (my exercise regime was unaffected by the fast) Weight loss was 7lbs but the mirror suggests it was visceral, again suggest similarity to mice study. It's difficult to find extended fasts in humans and more so in diabetics and people of my age (over 50). So I did it myself. Very very glad I did.

I have attempted to maximize Autophagy and noticed that feast and famine has positive outcomes. Have the cells only in Grow Mode or Repair Mode. Intentionally gained 30 pound last August to October (Vitamin D???) and in mid January started to lose it all, and then some. My right shoulder, top of my head, and then neck, down the back is now shedding massive amounts of skin. Not pretty, but the new cells seem baby fresh, and because they are staring to tan, gaining pigment, they can not be scar tissue.

Episode should be called Organ and Bone Regeneration, Fatness and Autophagy after Cycling between Severe Calorie Restricted Diet or Fast Mimicking Diet and Refeeding which is strictly speaking still not Fasting in a true sense on Water which has no Food to impact extra Calories, Glucose Rising, Insulin Rising. Would be interesting to know the number of days for people (60-100 Years life) versus mice (2-13? Years) which would have this incredible Autophagy effect.

So, I have minimal knowledge about epigenetic processes. One of the main concepts that I remember is that it is sensitive to environmental factors. I now wonder if individual cells within the same tissue have variances in their epigenetic settings. If so, I surmise that fasting may result in certain cells surviving based on epigenetic supremacy while others die off. It would be akin to natural selection on a microscopic scale. This would contribute to that rapid regrowth you see during refeeding. In a sense, the modern environment of plentiful food (much of which is not healthful) creates a low stress environment at the microbiological level which sustains weaker epigenetic traits. A macro scale analogy would be the domestication of the grey wolf. Dogs regress, genetically, due to the more comfortable existence (generally speaking) they have been accustomed to coevolving with humans. Ultimately, stress builds strength by killing off the weak to make room for the strong, but humans stopped evolving (progressively) because physical evolution is driven by limited resources in a wild environment that pits trait against trait until one fails, and the other propagates. Humans have entered a new kind of evolution that is mnemtic instead of genetic because the physical environment that drove genetic evolution has been conquered with intellect. The wild environment that drives mnemetic evolution is the free market. Ideas that are free to compete with each other creates higher quality and lower costs. Environments where one idea is artificially sustained through subsidy or regulation negates the inherent value of competitive struggle, and better ideas are unable to supplant older and obsolete ideas. Anyway. Sorry I went all over the place there. Thanks for the video. +1 Like +1 Subscribe And I will be sharing.

@Anonymous Panacea I do regular fasted cardiovascular, and strength training. It IS a long and difficult transition for the body to adjust to metabolically use fat for fuel, but it can work. I just finished a 2 day backpacking trip in a fasted state, and I had energy for the whole time, over some pretty strenuous terrain. So I think for endurance/stamina/cardiovascular activities its efficacy is proven for me. I also do strongman training, and this is where I'm not convinced that you can perform as well in sheer strength and power exercises, using fat for fuel vs carbs. So far I am doing ok, but not rocking it like I did when I was a carb eater.

Reason for not showing that fasting helps with fat loss that we want to lose in order to get ripped, its not long enough fast, showing that it helps with fat around organs, its because thats where body starts to look for calories once that is used then goes into fat that is around your body and finally belly fat, its long process but thats how it works Body does not use muscles for energy not until you have enough fat around you.

I just want to know how to lose weight, but get all of the essential nutrients. Can humans maintain excellent health on a whole food plant based diet? And what about water? What is the ideal diet for humans? I'm so confused.

Yes, they can. Water isn't too difficult - just look at your pee and make sure it is light yellow. Ideal diet for humans is the one that is most sustainable for you, so there are many choices.

Yep, fasting has no benefit in terms of health to simple caloric restriction.

I don’t really like this guy, he’s really boring as hell and he is monotone But He has good logic and although his presentation could be better: i can trust what he says
