Well, I did not set out to ride this trail...but ride it I did! One thing led to another, and I found myself in true explorer mode, taking in some fascinating military history along the way. The Timmerman Trail near Cayce, South Carolina was the site of both American Revolution and Civil War battles, so there's lots of history along this trail. There's also a unique and lengthy bridge that allows you to cross Congaree Creek. Explore the Timmerman Trail with me...just watch for snakes and gators.
I'm Scott. I explore, review and rate bike trails on this channel...and hopefully find a little joy in the journey. Thanks for watching!

At 72 I have experienced life when it was simple . I am thankful for that experience ! It is an almost impossible job for parents to protect their children ! To raise them with values before they are exposed to the internet ! Great video Scott, love your music choice ! ❤️

You're so right. My kids were born just as the internet was becoming "a thing." I can't imagine how difficult it is for young parents today. Thanks for watching. :)

Love that trail! We love to park on the Timmerman end and ride the all the way through the Cayce trails too. That way, we do the best trail first while simultaneously saving the best for last haha. The history is awesome. Thanks for another great video!

Maybe I missed it but I didn’t hear why only 3 stars. It’s beautiful but did look short on the map. Enjoying the history, music and extra b-roll, not to mention your quirky humor. 👍Vickie & Mark

Yeah, it is kind of short - just a 3 1/2 mile loop. And that one bridge is the only extraordinary feature, everything else is pretty standard. But there is a lot of important military history that took place there. But no wow factor as far as the trail is concerned. Hey, this is always just my opinion; others may disagree. 😬

From a local perspective and someone that rides this area quite frequently, I don't really consider these as separate trials but instead a section of the entire Three Rivers Greenway. If you know the area well, you can start at Timmerman (one end) and ride the Congaree into W. Cola-cross the Gervais street bridge-ride behind the State Museum into Columbia Riverfront Park-ride the Broad River on one side and canal on the other to the Diversion Dam on Broad (opposite end). This will get you plenty of miles and the entire experience from isolated swamp like trail riding to river front riding to inner city riding. This does not include the Saluda Riverwalk or sections of the Congaree on the Columbia side of the river that have yet to be connected. I have read the long term plan is to have all of these areas connected and even expand up the Saluda to the Lake Murray Dam. That would be quite the afternoon ride from the Dam into Columbia and the entire greenway. I hope I'm around to see this come to pass. I've ridden quite a few other trials as well, and consider this area to be quite a jewel for the Midlands and much more deserving than 3 stars. At the end of the day, to each their own.

Yes, the Columbia area has some great trails that I think are under-publicized. To be honest, it served my purposes to present them as separate trails just because it’s better for me to produce 3 or 4 12-minute videos instead of one 30- or 40-minute video. And the fact that they have different names is a little confusing. I think I did mention once or twice that it’s all part of the Three Rivers Greenway (although not in this most recent one)… But thanks for the info…good to know.

I accidentally came across this trail when I was in Cayce also.. Went thru the same neighborhood & went over the attractive long bridge.. I remember reading the history.. and it’s a lot less busy than Riverwalk.. I would have given it 3 ⭐️⭐️⭐️ also.. 👍

That’s ironic, I grew up in South Alabama (L.A.) as well…Ozark. Moved to Kentucky at age 8 but still miss the laid back pace there. RTR!
