I have a 2003. Thank you for your video. My rear axle seal is making my thing smoke to. It’s been like that for a minute and it’s riding rougher and rougher.

Absolutely loved your video. I had seen in some of the videos of people doing this that they took the shortcut and the more expensive option. As far as I know Ford is the only one who sells that rear ball bearing housing. Instead of taking it all apart replace all the bearings Ford has one that bolts right and place but it's over $500. I'm looking to pick up a F350 and the owner is already told me that the rear bearings on the driver side needs to be replaced. That's when I came across Ford selling the whole unit. I also found all the bearings and they have a complete kit. If I'm not mistaken RockAuto it's like $75 or maybe $95. It definitely was not $500. I'm old-school repacking bearings is absolutely nothing for me. Whenever probably younger my father would allow me to repack all the bearings. Back then in the 70s and 80s that's how you repaired wheel bearings. I most definitely hit the like button and subscribe button. Looking forward to watching more of your videos.

I was told never to use grease if it get lube from differential? Won't this contaminate the oil?

According to volume 2 of the workshop manual for 2004 Excursion, F-Super Duty 250 - 550, he's doing it correctly: 205-02D-6 "Lightly coat the spindle and pack each rear wheel bearing with Premium Long-Life Grease XG-1-C or equivalent meeting Ford specifications ESA-M1C75-B" (specifically that's for the Full Floating Axle - Dana) and 205-02F-12 "Pack each bearing and replace the hub seals" (Ford 10.50-Inch Ring Gear). After seeing some of the comments here I wanted to look it up as I might be doing this soon.

After putting the left axles in. Should the axles spin or lock in the Differential and not spin.

Great video! Thanks. Definitely gave you a thumbs up. One thing I had to chuckle about was the "you guys that polish your aluminum, kudos" In my own humble opinion, it's a truck. Polished wheels are for Navigators and the like. To me, seeing big polished wheels on a work truck is like seeing a pretty pink bonnet on a lumberjack. But, again, that's just me talking out my ass. 😄

It’s the brake line from the caliper to the hard line it rots from the inside out and doesn’t allow the fluid back so the caliper holds and it over heats and smokes happened on mine cheap fix

Should be using gear oil for lubrication. Contaminating gear oil with grease will shortens bearings life and gear oil.

Those spindles and the bearings are supposed to stay wet with oil. Never grease them folks!!!

Your contaminating the gear oil you don't want that shit making its way to the clutches dump the 75w140 synthetic you use for the diff all over the bearing I only use Amsoil or Valvoline that diff needs to be drained and clean magnet
@EvilleTruck
@EvilleTruck 2 жыл бұрын
I have had a few comments regarding this, I have always, packed the bearings with grease, always, regardless if they get lube from differential or not, if you are filling the diff to the point that your bearings are floating in oil its too full, theres not enough oil to keep it lubbed at all times and the bit that does get in there isn't going to flush it all out, at least thats been my experience. I know some will agree and others like you disagree , but never had an issue with doing it this way.

@@EvilleTruck I would be worried about the clutches and further lubrication with it slinging oil it start caking up its a toss up on what's right maybe after a good heat cycle it breaks down but it has additives that probably aren't good for limited slip clutches but if you don't have problems maybe its ok tomorrow I'm putting back together a 2020 F350 with 200,000 miles its hot shot truck rebuilding both sides we have to pick up the parts at Ford in the morning I'm gonna try to talk to technician and see what they are doing some will tell you and some are pricks hopefully I can find out because the truck runs cross country I have always used the gear oil but regardless on Ford's its 75w140 full synthetic usually a tag on the pumpkin saying it Ford is very strict on full synthetic and not 75w90 I like this truck because it has a arrow pointing right at the drain bolt on the cover so if I can't change it someone else doesn't pull wrong bolt but anyways I will try to find out tomorrow let you know on here what they say

I would be interested in hearing what they say. I have looked online before and see arguments for both ways.

@@EvilleTruck they just use gear oil but have heard of people doing it either way but recommend just gear oil but I guess if it hasn't failed probably ok

It's recommended in the repair manual to pack the bearing with axle/bearing grease.
