CLIP DESCRIPTION:
Mr. Lee (Michael Paul) stops by the police station to report the assault at his convenience store.
FILM DESCRIPTION:
It's just not William Foster's (Michael Douglas) day. Laid off from his defense job, Foster gets stuck in the middle of the mother of all traffic jams. Desirous of attending his daughter's birthday party at the home of his ex-wife (Barbara Hershey), Foster abandons his car and begins walking, encountering one urban humiliation after another (the Korean shopkeeper who obstinately refuses to give change is the worst of the batch). He also slowly unravels mentally, finally snapping at a fast-food restaurant that refuses to serve him breakfast because it's "too late." Running amok with an arsenal of weapons at the ready, Foster -- also known as "D-FENS" because of his vanity license plate -- rapidly becomes a source of terror to some, a folk hero to others. It's up to reluctant cop Prendergast (Robert Duvall), on the eve of his retirement, to bring D-FENS down.

@@Hedgpig Foster was laid off because he was a monster in the making. Hints are all through the film. His ex wife is terrified of him, he has a short fuse and a big sense of moral outrage, yet he reacts disproportionately to obstructions, slight conflicts or territorial disputes. All of these things happen in marriage, parenting, travels and work. If a layoff happens...managers often use it as a reason to get rid of troublesome or non productive employees. He's supposedly looking for work, has the tie and briefcase...yet when it is opened it has no resumes, no reference letters, no examples of his work,....just lunch. The tie and case is just a prop...a costume...a way to pretend he hasn't already walked away from every respectable element of society. He created his own hell, and now feels he has nothing more to lose by letting his real drives be exposed. At the end, Pendergrass is correct. He is coming to kill his wife and destroy the last person on earth that still loves him...then kill himself. Foster is nobody to be admired or sympathized with. He is just a monster in a better outfit than the gangsters that blow away their own neighborhood just to hope to kill him....and miss.

Lucimyr Media culture of your nation would have you believe that as the primary ethnicity is white, I assume. The fact of the matter is, we recognize those we see the most often. If you live daily only seeing mainly one color of people your brain is only going to distinguish the acute features of those people you see every single day. A person who’s not from Asia often can’t tell Asian nationalities apart and it works the other way. You should try to combat ignorance with intelligence instead of stooping to their level, also being ignorant yourself, and contributing to keeping humans divided.

I think it's a subliminal message on both sides. white guy, tie and a shirt and Robert Duval's wearing a white shirt and tie and he looks the same as DFENS, but also some people would say Asians all look alike. When I first saw the movie I thought the same when he was describing Robert Duval's character and I was expecting Duval to give him a look. If you travel all over the country like I do, you will start thinking all white guys look alike because I am starting to believe that 😂😂😂😂

@@alanoxford6219 Well it doesn't exactly matter what detectives want to investigate, it matters what the law is. A robbery is stealing property under the threat of force so it would be up to the jury if that qualifies. Also after looking at the scene again it's not as cut and dry as it seems. Destruction of property definitely. You can add trespassing on top of that. However robbery and assault are kind of debatable. He only struck the cashier in the process of trying to get the bat away from him which you could argue is an act of self defense. It was the clerk that escalated it to a physical altercation. I mean if somebody threatened to hit you with a bat you wouldn't then give it back to them. Then again you could argue the clerk was defending his store so it's kind of a toss up.
