I've had this thought as well, if we're all dwellers of vault 76 and going out into the world to rebuild then it seems very far fetched that immediately we run out and start fighting each other and wage fucking nuclear wars when the whole damn world was just destroyed and the very reason we've just spent 20 (or 25?) Mike Sage I would agree with that sentiment. Why would people conditioned to want to help rebuild the world head out, kill each other, and then set nukes off. I feel like this game would have been much better with drop in play, and a setup like this. Vault tec had a scattered program for these survivors. Firstly most of the vault headed out, and set up civilization, but incase they all died a handful of people remained behind for five years. There’s a second reclamation party, and your sent out. So now you have a viable reason for having small towns, and shops. And maybe now there’s a war between a few of the factions that have setup outside the vault with disagreements on how to handle the nukes.

You're of the same opinion I am. Even with it being a MMO I was thinking about buying it. Afterall I play Star Trek Online and ESO and enjoy them well enough. Used to play Final Fantasy 9 back in the day. However the idea of forced PvP has stopped me cold. I'm very, very concerned about the idea of there being no option to 'turn off' or remove yourself from the PvP elements. All the games I've played made PvP an optional part of the experience with special zones dedicated to it. The rest was solo or PvE. But an open world where at any moment you could be just strolling along, fighting a mutant creature, working on your settlement and some griefer team just either comes in and ganks you, destroying and/or taking all your stuff, or nukes the heck out of you without so much as a warning or a chance to grab your stuff and get out of there? Not cool. Not fun. Not good. Such an environment would likely see me try it out if there was a free subscription period just to see for myself how bad/good it is..... but then I wouldn't be motivated to play any more of it. I mean what's the point of building yourself a nice settlement if it can and will be destroyed at a whim by griefers and trolls? Especially when there aren't any npcs in the game to live in my settlement, farm it, defend it, to make it feel lived in and settled. Making a fancy settlement without npcs is like just building yourself a fancy mansion with a big bulls-eye painted on it. I'd quickly degenerate to the point where I'd figure out the smallest, cheapest, quickest way to build a 'camp' just to hold my player character and build no further. Just use it as a temporary rest/reference point while I gather resources for the next one. I'd get bored of that pretty quick. Ugh, sorry that got so long. I guess I had a lot to get off my chest.

time and time again its been said that death does not hinder progress. you dont lose your gear when you die. im not sure how they'll handle base destructivity, but im willing to bet buildings are impervious as anything else in the world and security measures like turrets probably just get disabled for a time

You got me there, I did miss the super mutants and the scorchbeast blowing up the turbines. Another thing that slipped my mind is how the C.A.M.P. works. Todd Howard said during the presentation that settlements can be built anywhere and *moved* anywhere, meaning anything you place down is most likely saved by the C.A.M.P. Rebuilding is most likely done with the flip of a switch.

Plus TESO wasn't made by Bethesda. it was made by Zenimax and Fallout 76 is Bethesda's first multiplayer game that they have created. You can't really compare the two because TESO was a WOW-SWTOR-type MMORPG and 76 is an online survival game.

Actually not really. It most likely didn't delay FO5 at all. Bethesda was literally 1/4th its current staff size when FO4 came out. You will most likely wait the same 6-7 years that we waited for ES6. (So 2020-2022) for FO5.

I think you will find that to obtain the codes for a Nuke silo will be probably one of the HARDEST things to do, against Npc's, other players ect...They indicated that you will need to have several parts of the key code, indicating that its not an easy thing to obtain. Also, I thing that base building will be a fairly 'temporary' thing for a relatively short period oftime...then you move on and you CAN move your entire base etc...to the next location.

It doesn't even sound like Bethesda is making the game they want. The promotional materials are all about "After the radiation levels fall, the rebuilding begins". Todd Howard says in the announcement that "They always wanted to make a game about the first vault dwellers coming out and rebuilding". What they made instead was a game where 500 people exit the vault and 450+ of them immediately disappear into thin air, and the few remaining ones split up into groups and start killing each other. A game where there is no one to rescue, no point in rebuilding because there is no one to live in what you build. A game where instead of building a society, you're building a party patio to chill on between killing sprees. They made all the choices for the game, but the result does not appear to be what even they describe as their aim at the beginning.

I don't like playing hostile, it's boring, unimmersive and generally a waste of my time and bullets, especially seeing as up until recently I lived in Australia which meant server latency cause most of my shots or what have you to miss stationary targets anyway. I only play friendly and prefer teamwork over pvp. Your reading comprehension skills are bad though, because I didn't say punishing pvp, I said a game that punishes pvp. As in, you are penalized for killing other people for no reason: it does not stop that behaviour.

I mean, if the game will have no NPCs but there will still be missions given to the player, I supose the vault will remain partialy unnaccessible (otherwise, how to explain the place empty of NPCs?) and you will be contacted through your radio or speakers in the lounge area or something. It is also probably going to be the spawning point for all players. So I don't think it would be conversible into a settlement.

See with eso hes right its already a fantasy game so it fits the mmo rpg role well but fallout is a lone survivor wandering the wasteland they are 2 completely different styles in the same genre and not to mention fallout 76 will not have human npc's or have a deep branching story like eso. Oh and it seems like their being extremely hesitant to go all out and tell us exactly how the game is set up. They just tease a bunch of shit without explaining it in detail which actually makes me believe they are testing public perception to see how we react then they tweak the game to save their ass as much as possible

It is very likely that the codes are simply a % drop, and not unique items, so hiding a launch code will not stop anything.

Oh me too. When I first heard of Vault 76 I was immensely hopeful it was going to be like FONV was to FO3. Same engine, same resources, just a different story and location. The idea of playing shortly after the bombs dropped was rather interesting to me. Then I learnt it was to be an MMO and I was still like. "Well okay I can handle that. I play Star Trek Online, Elder Scrolls online and played FF9 back in the day, I enjoy those so it should be ok still." Then they told me about the forced PvP system and all I can think about now is how griefers will ruin every experience for me.

Shortage? Fucking shortage? 80% of the games presented on this year's E3 are single player games. Most of the games released last year are a fucking single player games. But sure, let's bitch about Bethesda making one of them first multiplayer games.

Loinnir S Why are you so angry? Honestly I was really thinking about RPG types more similar to Fallout and Elder Scrolls. One of the few that came out last year was Mass Effect Andromeda which was, well, what it was. I'm really not interested in the millionth Assassins Creed or whatever

They're releasing a new Elder Scrolls game in the next year or so, and there's a new franchise, AND you don't seem to know that games take time to be developed if you want them to be great. "Oh no, the last few games I didn't like, and Bethesda are taking their time with game development, so fuck them". Please.
