FASHION! Street clothes, stage clothes, custom made clothes, t-shirts. My take on the 1970’s & 80’s style and fashion choices of the trend setting rockstars of the time. What did the bands wear and how did that separate them from the average rock fan? Where did they get those unique clothes? Tune in to hear more!

Living in Hollywood around 1990 we would hit all the trashy rock shops up and down the Blvd that sold clothes, posters, tour shirts, tapestries, everything. Talk about a candy store, I wish those were still around. I still have so much of that stuff packed away somewhere.

Amazing stuff, thank you so much for making these. While it became saturated & cookie cutter,we lost some of “glitz” as you termed it & everything ultimately got painted black. Before GNR put an end to this whole movement.. RATT Invasion of your privacy era to me is the swansong & absolute best visual “brand” of that period. The look, the wardrobe & the whole stageshow was just on another level. And so original.

Yeah, that live tv show where Tracii and Mick cut their hair and dressed like Little Lord Fauntleroy, and Phil looking like a poof was embarrassing. Tracii in a leopard print matador’s top🤣😂 Tracii should’ve never cut his hair because those acne scars looked like the surface of the moon. And every band had someone with a Batman shirt.

I agree about GnR. It's part of my love affair with them. For some reason, there is a FREAKING TONof pictures of them, always floating around on Instagram. They always look amazing. Part of it is that they were all young and good looking. But it's not just that. Slash looks brooding and mysterious. Axl has a classic face with delicate European features. Izzy looks like a hippie. Duff had that pretty blonde hair. They were all distinct but they all fit together. Somehow they managed to not all look the same, where a lot of "hair bands" do.

That is SO funny because one image that's ingrained in my memory is Duff McKagan wearing a CBGB shirt in Paradise City. That came out in the late 80s. I don't think CBGB was hot like that by then. How did HE get it? Even in Philadelphia, you had to be part of a certain scene to get certain kinds of clothes. All the punk kids hung out on South Street and they shopped at Zipperhead. The black kids were rocking Todd 1 sweat suits. I went to class with those kids and I STILL couldn't figure out where they got it. 😂😂😂

Loved Phil's leather jacket with LAG. On the back seen on the Japan 88 video. Steven Tyler had this long trench or robe like thing wit a cheetah on the back. One of my favorite concert Ts was Motley's Girls tour shirt with the chick riding the missle. Still have one, have many tour shirts put away. Think Shout at the Devil clothes were best.

It's kinda like that with hair today. If you're a dude with long hair, you can't just go into a random hair salon and get an 80s rocker style layered or feathered haircut, most people don't know how to do it or even know what it's supposed to look like. You have to really research and find someone somewhere that knows how to do it right, almost like getting a tattoo. I drive 5 hours to Atlanta twice a year to get mine cut by this girl I know because she's the only person I trust to do it right. Last time I went to a local salon they gave me what was essentially a mullet. In the 80s that was such a common hairstyle that most any regular place could do it, but not anymore.

I was just about to make a comment about the hair too. Almost no one knows how to do the hair properly anymore. It ain't just simply long hair that's teased. There's some cuts to go with it. Most long hair on dudes in metal now is just all the same length. I tried to get one also at a local nice salon but I also ended up with just a mullet too haha back in my 20s.

Happy New Year! Absolutely spot-on about it all...I was still going down to T&V to buy crushed velvet biker jackets & Beatle boots in spite of the face of grunge in the early 90's anyway...we still had a little bit of nightlife left! 😁 Of course all this falls on the deaf ears of "the new rock 'n' roll bands", they feel the millennial hipster look's good enough...God bless that kid from The Struts for trying his hardest, though. As for that Greta Van Fleet "Lord Of The Rings" look???😴😴😴😏😏😏😏

I feel all the new bands miss the mark fashion wise. They would rather take the free clothes and endorsements and make money that way. I don’t blame em. But the ones that really live that rock n roll spirit and go their own way are the ones to watch. If they exist !

@@beforeiforget1985 If you find any of them, let us know... The Struts kind of came the closest, but even THEY are manipulated by labels & management, they're always being teamed up with someone else or have to have special guests all over an album, how does someone create a musical identity like that?! & Their other big mistake's that only the frontman's a stand-out...the rest of them could be backup players for anyone their age out there today. A real band should look like they belong together. They've just signed with Big 3, who's main man promised Cheap Trick the world with a few recent albums & failed...let's see what he does to these poor kids next!

Nikki Sixx rocked the cowboy boots and motorcycle chaps for a few years before Guns became famous. That spiked teased hairstyle was original too. He had more style than most of the 80s rockers- he may have been copying from the 70s era, but he made his outfits his own and had great jewelry and jackets. Also, the wrestling shoes Motley wore in the early 80s weren't being done by anyone else. His look kinda fell apart during the 90s, some of those outfits were awful, but he owned that 80s rocker fashion.

Why & how do ppl forget that GnR and Slash before GnR were glam? Huge hair, lipstick, ass out of his pants (Axl), eye liner, etc.

True they did the glam thing but it was not poison glam. Poison to me isn’t glam they are some other kind of thing. More a Hanoi Rocks kind of thing. But yes axl was into the makeup. Slash a bit too. But it quickly changed into a Gypsy biker Aerosmith kind of thing . Thanks for watching !
