It’s been 20+ years, and I still can’t get over that they not only named a character “Butt”, but CHANGED it TO “Butt” from a perfectly fine name like Marco Rodriguez. Reminds me of Tracy Ullman’s character Latrine in Robin Hood Men in Tights, when the King (Richard Lewis) asks her “Wait, you changed it TO Latrine??” Though in her case, it was a “good change” :D

I can't f'n wait for Garou 2, about dam frickin' time. My very first job was working part-time at a local supermarket while going to High School and they had Garou: Mark of The Wolves there along with Tekken 3 & X-Men vs Street Fighter in a small corner of the store near the Customer Service area. As a massive Fatal Fury fan (Terry Bogard is tied with Mortal Kombat's Liu Kang for my all-time favorite Fighting Game character ever), I would play Garou as well as T3 & X-MvsSF during each 15 minute break period during my whole time working there. I even unknowingly got to play the Dreamcast port of Garou with Goku voice actor Sean Schemmel himself at a local Gamestop that was hosting a Capcom vs SNK tournament. I honestly had no idea that this friendly guy playing a few matches with me was Goku's voice actor until he left and my younger brother came over to tell me who that actually was and I was just floored. I have Garou as well as a bunch of other classic arcade games on both my Switch eShop & Playstation Store accounts. Garou: Mark of The Wolves is a masterpiece period! Yes please Matt give us more Fatal Fury content. OKAY🐺

Possibly one of the greatest fighting games ever made. I only hope and pray that the sequel looks and plays anything like this game

Garou is my all time favorite 2d fighter. Now, my friend has a strong Butt. Like a rock solid Butt. But my Dong is formidable, dynamic. Our Dong vs. Butt matches are legendary. In all seriousness, this roster is super well rounded and every character is fun. I absolutely cannot wait for the 2nd.

That bear should be playable in Garou 2!

A bit of a correction, senpai Matt. The Dotemu version was on Steam at first but it was apparently replaced by a version ported by Code Mystics, complete with rollback netcode. Unsure of the community density. Haven't played in a hot minute.

"Garou" is not french for wolf. Wolf in french is "Loup", "Garou" is used next to Loup to make "Loup-Garou" which means "Werewolf". I guess Garou alone can mean Werewolf in a way.

Minor correction, "loup" is French for "wolf." However, "loup-garou" is the French word for "werewolf," which is probably where the confusion came in, so "garou" translates as the "were" part of "werewolf" and can be applied the same way. Interestingly, "garou" (pronounced gar-OH rather than gar-OOO) is Japanese for "hungry wolf," hence why the literal translation for Fatal Fury's Japanese title, Garou Densetsu, is "Legend of the Hungry Wolf." No idea why the two words in French and Japanese are so similar and have similar connotations; as far as I know it's just an interesting coincidence.

This is fighting game royalty. No other game except maybe 3rd stike came close to being just ....perfect. In everything they did. The core gameplay is so freaking solid that it's is unbelievable

I played this game a long time ago, and I remember having so much fun playing this fighting game. Such nostalgia watching this.

I knew Fatal Fury had an alternate Japanese title of Garou Densetsu, but it didn't exactly roll off the tongue. I eventually preferred the Japanese title because of Fatal Fury 3's voiced intro drilling the title into my brain. When I first saw Garou in the arcades I immediately knew it was a new Fatal Fury for sure. I'm not sure if calling it Fatal Fury would have made it more successful though.

Parry might be more rewarding but there’s no denying that Just Defending is far more intuitive. Also the bosses are, in a rarity for SNK back then, fair game and surprisingly balanced. Kain is one of the better charge characters I’ve played in my life.

This game is the GOAT. I still bust this out here and there and woop some ass. 24 years later and it still looks and plays absolutely wonderfully.

Can't wait for the next entry! I remember reading in a recent interview that they're planning on it playing more like the classic games, though. Not really a problem for me, personally. Planning on making it my main game!

As a fighting game enjoyer (i am TERRIBLE at them) I find Rock's low ranking a bummer. He's probably one of my favorite 2D sprites ever. They animated the ever-living shit outta him and his attacks all look cool as hell.

It always impress me how this game runs on the same engine as KoF 98...unless im wrong, but I do know it runs on older hardware.

A while back I had an idea of how SNK could potentially make Freeman more memorable, bringing him over to KOF and joining Kim’s Team Korean Justice in lieu of Chang and Choi. Unlike Chang and Choi however, Kim’s teachings actual work and Freeman decides to become a hero, but he’s absolutely horrible at it, akin to Carnage during the Axis event. King of Fighters has always been more lighthearted and goofy with the characters from Fatal Fury and Art of Fighting that it uses, so I think it could be a fun experiment. (Also anything that keeps Chang and Choi out of the roster is a thumbs up in my book.)
