Yeah, very good initial attempt. The issue automakers now face is that Tesla has had so many years now to perfect the electronics that it becomes quite challenging to even match their expertise with their initial efforts. I would say that in two years time, companies that are debuting their EVs in 2021 should be almost on par with Tesla on the electronics / software front. Exciting times ahead and also the reason why, myself, an avid car aficionado believes in EVs, as the IC based cars are already dead....(hybridization, fake sounds, quiet exhausts, higher complexity, ....and so on...)

I was just thinking the same thing when we was talking about percentage of battery used for the trip. It really can put it into perspective when you need 65% of a 100kwh battery vs say 55% of a 75kwh battery.
@KostasTsakalidis
@KostasTsakalidis 3 жыл бұрын
@@AsterDreamweaver Yes... But like, still, for a fixed distance like that, its easy to understand how many stops one would need to go to Geilo (popular ski trip from Oslo) and back, a distance of about 450km roundtrip. You see that a car needed 90% of a full charge, that means it can do it, it can manage like 500km, Another car used 277% of full charge? Well.. 160ish range is not great, but fine for daily city driver. And consumption is actually there. Like.. It makes less sense to just show the battery size, he has compacted the table to make the letters readable for mobile viewers. I would add a "projected max range" maybe but still.. maybe not needed, I really like the %, it makes things more relevant on electric cars. Like.. Do I NEED a charge for 450km trip? Again, it is Norwegian mentality, we want to go to cabins to ski (that might not have power some times) and back, would be nice if we do not need to charge. BONUS Note / joke / funny story on this mentality. Polestar 2 advertising had a claimed "Polestar 2 can SAFELY go to Hemsedal ski resort and back in one charge." (408km roundtrip from Oslo) But then winter came and people complained in the facebook page that "no it can not" or "barely can". So they half appologised for false advertising and like made a new campaign with a closer ski resort (Norefjell, 222km roundtrip) "We want to be clear and honest in our communication. That is why we changed, says Rebecca Goodchild, who is the press contact for Polestar in Norway to Motor. She further says that in the winter, when there is by far the largest traffic to the ski resorts, you can not expect a charge-free ride round trip Hemsedal." That made it to like.. national news.

It seems to me the charger in Geilo is kaputt, the cooling does not seem to work. The annoying high pitch sound is missing, which is the coolant pump. If the cooling does not work, the ABB chargers are limited to around 30 kW. Look for example at the ID3 Geilo test where the cooling is working: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/psxil6iAvNe1oJs.html

@@Psi-Storm Never seen the behaviour that the coolant pump does not start, if it is working. It usually starts before the power is being ramped up. Should not matter if a Taycan or a e-up is charging. And the charging power also matches with this "emergency mode" (~30 kW) without cooling.

Hi Bjorn, as a retiree in Thailand I watch your reports on EVs and finding them super. I am holding off to buy in Thailand when the 2nd gen batteries arrive or solid state and I guess 2022. Given the pandemic, Thailand has slowed the roll out of EV charging stations. To me until the range gets beyond 500km, I would be stuck with no resale. Tesla as you know has no presence in Thailand , the first maybe Nissan Ariya of any real range, unless MG update the ZS batteries. Toyota look like they will launch with solid state batteries in 2022. Would you hold off too, until the 2nd gen batteries come in late 2021 or 2022. Tesla S Plaid or Cybertruck look like the first 500 mile Teslas? What do you think, advice would be welcome? Maybe a video on buying EV, when and what?

The concept of the car "being on" isn't really relevant in an electric vehicle. Ford should loose that annoying sound. The climate could be on, the car could be in drive or reverse. But just being "on." that is an ICE legacy feature and it shows.

@@threepingsthree Not if someone else wants to jump into your car and steal it. In that case, leaving it on (and driveable) and walking away is definitely risky, hence the double beep warning.

@@Savige96 ford has had them since the 90s and they owned the patent on it. But now since the technology is over 20 years old, the patent isnt exclusive anymore. So any other car brand can do it the same way. Thats why you are able to have it on your e-up :)

You seriously need to get your hands on the Model Y since its literally the Mach-E top competition.

We don’t have the Model Y yet in Europe. when we do it will come with structural pack, 4680 cells, front and rear 1 piece castings and better paint and I think it’s going to move the game on a lot!

Ford has this front window defrost wires for decades now, those d. licences for those wires are keeping other manufactures to implement it I guess. Would be nice to have it as an optional extra.
