Free Motion Quilting Class: Three flowers - three textures - three overall quilting patterns

The same elements: a swirl, petals and an echo line are the basics for each of the patterns. However, by changing the size and density and slightly the shape you can get three different designs that will have different use and give you different texture. This video is perfect for understanding the influence of density and shape on the final texture. They will help you control your movement on the quilt sandwich, and enhance your understanding of the pattern design.

Your videos are by far my favorites. I love watching in real time and they are long enough for my brain to absorb the structure of the design and the rhythm of the movement over the quilt. The relaxing quiet music and occasional comments are perfect for the end of a busy day. THANK YOU!!!

You are very welcome. I just wrote back to a similar feedback. I make videos that I want to watch. Detailed, slow, showing also the more complex bits. Quilting is a slow art and I want to show it like that. The multiple speed videos are misleading. And I also need a moment to calm down and relax. Hi there! Thank you for this great feedback. I make content that I like to watch. Quilting is in the focus and not my person. I do not like chatting and often than not, quilting is my way of relaxing. And I prefer a real time speed than the accelerated videos. Quilting is not difficult but it takes time and skill and it is a slow art. I am so greatful I keep finding people that think like me ❤❤❤❤

hi there, thank you for your comment and thoughts. Many quilters told me that they were thought to quilt fast. I prefer the "find your own speed" approach. I noticed that I am more effective and my quilting is better when I quilt at nice constant speed. It is almost the same like on the videos. This is also the reson why I never accelerate my videos. Quilting is a slow art and I love that. Try the slower way. Try out some nice instrumental music and see what happens❤❤❤

Hi there, welcome! FMQ is not a quantum physics. Try it. All you can loose is some fabric and batting. What you can gain is a wonderful way to channel your creativity. I have some very basic videos and all you need is patiance and love of progress ❤❤❤ Please let me know how it is going.

I am using gliding feet. and sometimes, I using setting for my ruler foot. It is something typical for my Janome. I have settings for the ruler foot when the foot is at one height position no matter what. And there is the free motion setting where the height is adjusted at the place you are quilting. So the foor comes down and then lifts off a bit. Sometimes I switch back between the settings, depending on my sandwich. ❤❤❤

All three are beautiful. You have so much patience! I think the word you are looking for is plume petals, not plum petals, and that one is my favorite.

@@quiltingnerd The problems arise when the misspelled word is actually a different word. Plums are fruits, and I knew that is not what you meant. I am an editor in addition to being a quilter, so I can’t stop myself from making corrections. Your English is great!

I think it's easy enough to recognise as "what it should be" and I just love the fact that not being perfectly fluent in English does not hold you back. Thanks for your wonderful videos. I have learnt much from you. P's, I find polyester thread works better for my FMQ than cotton, which breaks all the time.

Machines have their own personalities and preferences. I noticed that long time ago. Mine does not like yellow polyester thread. It doesn't matter the vendor, it will break! And please watch my videos and let me know when I make such typos. Sometimes I simply do not notice. When I read, I read sentences and paragraphs, not words. Bonjour Sylvia, merci pour votre commentaire et vos aimables paroles. La tension dépend du tissu, du molleton, du fil, de la machine et du pied..... Je ne plaisante pas. Tous ces facteurs ont une influence. Ma Janome règle de nombreux paramètres automatiquement. Elle a trois modes différents pour le quilting et je dois encore ajuster certains paramètres. C'est plus facile avec du fil 50 wt comme Aurifil. Mais j'ai découvert que je ne pouvais pas vraiment utiliser un fil en polyester. Un fil de coton de bonne qualité convient parfaitement. L'aiguille est également importante. Par exemple, ma machine aime que j'utilise la taille 90 pour le quilting. Pour ce qui est des points et de l'aspect, j'utilise quelques astuces. Par exemple, si vous utilisez du fil de canette du même type, vous ne verrez pas s'il y a un petit problème de tension. Ou bien j'utilise la couleur du tissu. Le résultat est le même. Et j'aime aussi le numéro 3 ❤❤❤❤ Traduit avec DeepL.com (version gratuite)
